Air con freestanding units

Well after opening the thread in June we had several increasingly hot spells. I bought a Black and Decker freestanding mobile air con unit and have been pleased with it.

It kept a bedroom of about 12' x 14' with a high ceiling pleasantly cool with the doors and windows shut. Quite noisy. It would be a bit difficult to sleep with it going, but would keep the room cool till bedtime.
Of course now I have no need of it, but no doubt will do next summer, maybe for longer spells.
So not a bad purchase. Thank you for your replies. I would have gone for the De Longhi, but John Lewis were out of stock.

Thank you for telling us. We are very pleased with our air cons. The white noise doesn't bother eith of us whilst sleeping. One unit is in the far end of the Conservatory, helping to keep that area pleasant all summer.

Can anyone recommend a freestanding air con unit for a medium sized room.? The last few days have been a challenge to keep DHs room cool and this morning I saw a headline on the internet saying that we will have even hotter weather in July.

We have fans and they are efficient in moving the air, but I think an air con unit will be needed. Lots on the internet but which to choose.

We've three, our home is open plan along the back. One in our bedroom, one in the kitchen diner, one further along in the family room.

We favor Dilongi, however we're thinking to purchase a different air con - with a heat pump for use over the winter.

Which.com recommends AEG Comfort, DeLonghi Pinguino, and Ecoair Crystal. We have two of the DeLonghi which we find work well, though you do need to get the right size for your room(s). We bought ours ex-display from different sites as they are expensive.
It's important to stress that they can't bring the temperature of a hot room down by more than a couple of degrees, so you need to do what you can to keep the room cool by other means if you have it switched off during the day (for example in a bedroom that is only used at night). They are very noisy, we can sleep with it on but I doubt everybody could, and they are quite large so you need to think about where you might store them in the winter.
