If you are an older group I would stick with Rye, it is certainly cobbled and hilly. Worth going up the church tower if you can.

The first series of Mapp and Lucia was filmed there.
Also there was a later series, not as good as the first!

I've been lots of times, it really depends on the tide. When the tide is out there will be miles of mud between you and the sea

Maybe I've included too many places, if it's only a day trip then
I'm sure Rye won't disappoint.

I've been to Rye, a lovely old town with cobbled streets and timbered buildings. Camber Sands is well known for, as its name suggests the sands, extensive, quite a novelty in Sussex mostly pebbles apart from West Wittering right at the other end of Sussex. Winchelsea is a pretty village nearby. Other places to visit fairly close would be Bodiam Castle, NT and if you venture into Kent, Rye is on the outer reaches of Sussex bordering Kent, Tenterden is a very pretty town a few miles away and the surrounding countryside between Rye and that part of Kent is lovely.

Have a great time.

And quite hilly. Wasn't it where E Benson's books were set and tbe TV series filmed of Mapp and Lucia?

Rye is a lovely small town with interesting buildings. If you plan to walk round it wear sturdy shoes to protect your feet from the cobbles!

We went to Camber Sands years ago for the day, when the children were young, all i remember is lots of sand and tufts of grass in between,it's probably all changed now.
