Panic stations!

I have, thankfully, never lost my keys. I'm not one for losing anything, even biros.

But I keep my normal keys in my handbag, a second set in the inside pocket of my jacket pocket and a third in a place only known to me.

I've only ever lived alone, so it's 1000% essential I know where all keys are at all times!

The thought of being locked out of my house scares me silly!

We still have a landline, makes a lot of noise and hard to turn off!

Luckily, I have never locked myself out, but I always keep a spare one in my car. If I am out, then the car will be used as I am limited as to how far I can walk. The other option that I have is to put a spare in the garage freezer (garage seldom is ever locked)

Why haven't you a key in a safe place then no need for panic.

Greciangirl Thu 10-Jul-25 16:26:54

I would be giving your DH a rollicking.

Especially as the downstairs window was left open.

I never switch my phone of as I don’t need to.

Well done for climbing in a window though. Very impressive.

Definitely recommend a key safe - saves a lot of aggro!

grandMattie Thu 10-Jul-25 15:40:55

Key safe. That way I also don’t take my keys on holiday…

Like you Sarnia I have a spare not where anyone would know just for such an occassionally

The only place I could leave one is under a pot, and apparently that’s the first place burglars look.

A neighbour does have a spare key, but he was out.

Some people bury their spare key, in a plastic bag of course. If you are unable to do that have a spare in the car.

Coggers94 Thu 10-Jul-25 14:21:27

Get a key safe. I have one in my porch cupboard

Oreo

Did you bop him over the head with something ?

No, it was all my fault for forgetting to take a key!
And this morning dh had driven for half an hour into central London, where we were visiting his relatives last night - to fetch the phone I’d left there! NB I was perfectly willing to go myself (bus and tube) but he seemed keen to go, so I accepted with thanks.

Nasty and very worrying for you at the time but I am glad it turned out not to be an emergency.

All’s well that ends well.

I have Keysafe fitted and I even remember the code. The minor problem is that I am partially sighted, so I cannot see to read the numbers.

I have a key safe in a discreet place for just such an event.

I went swimming, and for once, forgot to take door keys.
So while waiting for the bus, I phoned dh to see whether he was at home. Phoned 3 times, no reply - and NB dh is almost permanently glued to his phone. He hadn’t told me he was going anywhere, let alone anywhere he’d have to switch his phone off, e.g. dentist, so I did start to wonder.

Got home, rang doorbell insistently, no reply, so got seriously worried on seeing that a front downstairs window was open - and dh is fanatical about security, would certainly have closed it if he was going out.

By now seriously worried that he was lying on the floor having had a heart attack. Tried to climb in the front window, hopeless, not skinny or agile enough, but managed to borrow a garden chair from a neighbour and just about managed to climb and squeeze in.

Went upstairs in fear and trembling - dh was on the bed, having a nap with his phone off!!!
Talk about phew!! I won’t be forgetting my keys again!
