is it only me that has noticed some 2021 threads suddenly have appeared now

Most of the old threads have been resurrected by trolls and HQ seems to be onto as a few have been deleted in the last few days

fwiw, I think some are genuine[names recognisable], and some are not.
If the "person" resurrecting an old thread is a new name, I am very suspect.

The 2021 "Hurtful" thread developed a new life of its own after being restarted by an illicit advertiser for vapes.

I recognised a couple of names of GNs who were very good with their advice so I wouldn’t classify them as trolls at all🙅🏻‍♀️

If a thread is revived by someone selling games, counterfeit money, drugs, be sure it's a troll.

Some posters may not notice that or the date of the original post and answer the OP.

Not the genuine grans Bea but there are trolls reviving these old threads then the chat is taken up by genuine posters not realising it’s an old obsolete thread

I’ve reported several threads recently, which have been resurrected by trolls, flogging dubious medicines, vapes and online gaming. Another old line of threads about cats was each added to by a well meaning poster, despite the threads being old and no doubt a solution had been found in the 4/5 years since the OP!

However, on one thread I reported, which was subsequently sdded to, I was taken to task by a long standing poster saying that the thread was still very relevant. Can’t win?

I’ve wondered recently if threads should be removed after a certain length of time - a recently resurrected thread included details of a problem with an elderly person and it was pointed out that person may no longer be living.

The date of the OP on a thread is clearly shown, but it’s long been established that many GNs don’t read the whole thread.

I'm no sure that threads should be removed after a period of time, but there is a warning by GNHQ on old threads, telling us it's not been posted on for over a year and asking if we want to start a new thread.

The only answer is to read the thread!

Yes I noticed this also. So annoying!

I see nothing wrong with an old thread being resurrected if the contents are still relevant, i.e. discussing a tv series that has returned to our screens after a gap.

Why start a fresh one? Previous comments are good to look back on.

When I look at a thread, I notice the OP’s name, if it’s the name of a poster who no longer posts, my eye is drawn to the date. I then recognise many ‘former’ names in the comments.

I realise newer posters won’t know that.

Except Cakandargirl when the old thread has been something personal for instance ‘my husband has to have heart surgery’ then four years later someone pops up with ‘oh yes that happened to me’ and I did a, b, c …not reading further than the title and never bothering to read other posts, so not realising the husband died in surgery four years ago !

Or someone asks for advice and gets it but the problem had been ironed out fifty posts previously and general advice doesn’t alway apply to all stories, usually there are twists and turns to make it individual

And don’t get me started on people who don’t bother to read other posts and are blithely replying with solutions that have already been talked about and probably put into action ..Grrrr

That’s a good point BlueBelle but I suppose I was thinking of a more light hearted thread, i.e. tv., house and home or similar.

I agree about posters who don’t bother to read through and blithely witter on, e.g. a lost item, since found, but still advising people to check the sofa, pray to St Anthony etc.

Depends what the post is about and whether the contents are time sensitive and would be no use to anyone long term.

Often, good advice remains good advice years later.

NOW CLOSED.

But were they the posters who resuscitated the old threads, or ones who posted on it without realising that it was an old thread?

I wish they would just start a new thread really. I don’t know why but I find the dredges irritating.

They often do, but it doesn't stop the people who read the opening post and reply without bothering to read the rest of the thread...

No I don’t understand this trolling thing? I’ve commented on old posts before realising that’s what they are, old posts!

I actually read the first post, but because I was tired from my pains meds, I didn’t look at the date. I did say that I needed to pay more attention.

Pain meds do that to u 😢 but am wide awake due to heat and fan noise🙁

I got caught out the other day and replied to an old thread before realising.
