Portable barbecues

Do you think it’s right that supermarkets are selling portable barbecues and lighters at a time when fires are a real danger. I wonder what our fire fighters think. So many people will be taking these into the countryside, having a lovely time, then not taking the proper precautions to put them out and taking them home.

I thought that has been made illegal?

Obviously wrong.

I saw these in the entrance of my local Sainsbury’s. I wanted to message the store manager but couldn’t find a place to complain. I do feel outraged. I feel people should be encouraged to take a picnic until the threat of fires has passed. Just as much fun, I think.

Although some won’t listen it’s better to try and educate people, even if disposable bbq’s were banned, people still have portable ones they use year in year out.

We live near the beach. Not only have bins accidentally burnt down when the owners left warm barbecues next to them, but one of the small dustcart-vans that empty the bins on the prom was almost totally destroyed. These barbecues are nightmare as they seem to be out, but they're not.

Not all fires are caused by portable barbeques...maybe ban the use of cigarettes too?
