My Sister in law is 92 and still drives but limits her destination to places that she knows well and feels safe driving to .This seems OK to me ?

I stopped driving and handed back my licence when I turned 78, the car broke down...we managed to get it home ,but that was the final straw, I didn't want to drive anymore but kept going because my OH didn't drive and he couldn't walk very far, it was a relief, I miss it but glad I don't have to take it for mot, service, and not feel like a chaffeur.

You can contact the DVLA yourself and they will revoke his licence without him ever knowing it was you that dobbed him in! I did this when my sister suffered a terrible aneurism and after 6 months in hospital, brain surgery which left her with severe mobility and sight issues but she insisted on driving. The DVLA were very helpful and understanding.
Why opticians don't advise the DVLA when giving out this advice I will never understand.

I sold my car and handed in my licence two weeks ago. Mainly because my sight had deteriorated. I also wanted to make the decision and not have the decision made for me after a car accident.

Life is very different without a car and I frequently forget and think "if I leave now, I can be home within the hour".

He will have to do it sometime so why not now?

My husband has been told his sight is not good enough to drive. He has difficulty accepting this. I fully understand how life changing this is in terms of independence but wish he would realise that if you get to this age it’s pretty inevitable. It puts extra pressure on me too . Im 75. Anyone else in same position?
