I phoned British gas with a meter reading and they phoned back with a survey. 2 minutes later got a text from them again and unsafe site warning came up

Exactly Ziplock and petra. The on line form I completed for HMRC asked if I had any recent contact with them before the phone call. This made me hope the agency is aware that it’s likely a member of staff is selling details, or their on line protection isn’t working

Yes, you’re probably correct. Either way, it’s very concerning.

Ziplock
Two ways. Either their IT system isn’t safe or it’s an employee selling on info.

It’s quite concerning though Iam64 that both these scams followed on from genuine cases that you had to deal with, ie a genuine HMRC one and a genuine parking one.
It might be coincidental of course, but isn’t it strange that scammers have been able to feed into genuine cases you had to deal with. It makes you wonder how these scammers know that you had both a genuine HMRC case and a genuine parking case that you have dealt with. It just seems too much of a coincidence. How have these scammers got hold of the details? Concerning to say the least.

How did you find out BlueBelle? Hope you haven’t lost money

I was hacked at a Greek airport a couple of years ago. I used the airport WiFi, desperately the warning that the site wasn’t secure. I haven’t done that since

I ve just had my credit card hacked I believe possibly through the Coop as I paid for my cremation using my credit card ☹️

It’s getting worse unless I ve just been unlucky. Last week I had a genuine letter from HMRC. They had under charged me and will recoup the under payment over the next year. Irritating but hey ho these things happen.
I’ve now had three calls on my mobile, automated American accent that tells me it’s HMRC, that they wrote to me abjure an underpayment, that I’ve ignored/returned the letter. I’m to click the link to pay or be prosecuted.
I cut the calls off and checked the govt website to find yes, it’s a scam. I filled in their form - one of the first questions is, had I had a letter from them..

Scam 2. A text saying today the last chance to pay an overdue parking fine. I deleted that one. Yes I got a parking fine having stayed ten minutes over on Morrisons car park a couple of weeks ago. I paid the fine on line the day it arrived and took a photograph of the payment confirmation. Just in case, I googled scam parking fines, sure enough it’s a scam.

It’s irritating and I’m not surprised busy people click these links
