Bucketing down! The first for many weeks.

There was an occasional shower overnight in my area of London. A friend and neighbour got in touch as he had read there had been torrential rain here. I assured him his house had not floated to the next street.

I was drying clothes and enjoying the sunshine.

Can anyone hear the sound of marching feet?

Millions of slugs and snails.

I was out very last last night scooping them into my bin for collection today

We had torrential rain this afternoon, two weeks worth in an hour, apparently. Roads and shops flooded and offices evacuated. I think we must have been on the fringes as just a couple of miles down the road it was dry all day!

Downpour yesterday evening, playing boules, lifted manhole covers on the road….Peak district.

Hardly any rain at all here in Trowbridge Wiltshire, seem to always miss us.

We had rain all night Saturday , very heavy at times plus a torrential downpour Sunday morning here in East Herts .. the smell of fresh air is lovely, supposed to have heavy rain today but the washing is happily blowing in the breeze. Now, .although there are big rain clouds to the south, none of the forecast wet stuff yet !

Just come out of Tescos. Sprint to the car (?) as rain was torrential. Stopped by the time we got home, but looks like we are due for another shower. Still the water butts are full.

Well, Gds’s party in the park, postponed from Saturday to yesterday, started off cloudy and with a very brief shower (we were under big trees) but then the sun came out and stayed out 🙂until dh and I finally left at about 6.30 - lots of kids still running around, plenty of parents still on the 🍷.

Despite scary weather warnings for torrential rain and thunder storms both the orchestral proms and the folk festival were fine - especially the folk festival where the weather was lovely! Phew! - they dodged a bullet there!

Tonight the rain is torrential. Even the fog wanted to be under the umbrella when she went for a last wee!

We finally had some rain during last night and earlier today. Yep the snails soon appeared!
Not enough to do much good though. Back to more sunshine as the day went on.

Two heavy downpours today, one this morning, a torrential one this afternoon driving through the Wye Valley. Despite the lack of rain, it's looking very green.

Looks like we’re only going to miss it if we are in this white wedge. I am.

😁

So are we, but it certainly rained today, but not for long!

We’ve had a five minute shower at about 10.30 this morning, but other than that it’s been another nice day.

The hedgehogs will be happy 😀

Well, over the past 2 days the clouds have deposited maybe half an inch of the wet stuff - which is about as deep as it has managed to penetrate into the soil, if that. I was really hoping for more.

Jaxjacky Same here in NW Surrey. So happy to see some rain. All our small shrubs that were planted in the last year or so have dried up and are probably dead sad

The sun is shining again, the air is nice and fresh, I can sleep at night and it looks like there are more showers to come this week as well as a bit of sun so I'm happy.

We had heavy rain overnight Friday and last night, very welcome too, South Hampshire, hope it carries out, definitely cooler too. 🌧️

Iam64 Sun 20-Jul-25 14:54:30

We had four inches of rain the day it was announced we had a water shortage. My velux windows leaked

Whingey Sun 20-Jul-25 14:45:43

It rained and rained and rained and rained the national average was maintained then when the tracks were nearly bogs it started raining cats and dogs.
The sun came out for half an hour and then we had a gentle shower wetted the party to the skin after that the rain set in

DamaskRose Sun 20-Jul-25 14:45:16

No rain here for weeks in the north east of Scotland, rained overnight and heavily most of the morning. Wonderful! 😊

JamesandJon33 Sun 20-Jul-25 14:37:36

It rained here in SWWales, for most of the night. Two very heavy showers around six, but now the sun is out and it is warm . Rain forecast for tomorrow though

Ziplok Sun 20-Jul-25 12:52:56

Heavy showers here again today, I’m pleased to say. We really do need the water.
Some of those individuals might not be so indignant if they get slapped with a £1000 fine. Yes, it’s inconvenient having to use watering cans, but we really need to try to be better at conserving what we have (including the water companies) and using what we do have wisely. The reservoirs near us are alarmingly low.

I don't mind rain as long as I don't have to go out but I cringe when I've got to make the effort and leave my fortress. I have to admit the trees and plants have really needed some water though
