The wisteria has flowered twice
dry for weeks and then a phenomenal amount of rain thAT floods roads and causes potholes and sink holes.

I live in the south east too. Apart from disliking the extreme heat some of my plants look sickly and inundated with wasps.

I live on the edge of the Cotswolds. We have had masses of red and black currants and loganberries this year. Our allotment sweetcorn is shoulder high, we have a record crop of Potatoes.
The grass on our two nearby commons is brown and dry, lots of trees showing signs of dehydration, only 3 swifts screaming up and down our valley, usually 5. Few bees, butterflies, other pollinators, few moths.
Things sure are changing, meanwhile few people seem to notice and plan endless holidays. Dancing to the end of time?

Just picked 6 ripe figs with the hope of a few more. Truly delicious.

It was sunny for ages in 76 but I don't think it got as hot. I was 16 & remember riding all day with friends on our ponies in shorts & sleeveless tops, seemed an endless summer.
I went riding the other day & it seemed too hot for me & too hot for the horse, so am waiting till it cools down to go again.

I think it was as hot maybe you were younger and it didn’t bother you as much it only happens now and then
I wasn’t dissing global warming I do think we are harming the planet but I do love a decent hot summer

This is certainly not like 1976. That summer was an anomaly that only affected us, the rest of the world was actually cooler than usual. This year the excessive heat has spread right across Europe and has started unusually early. I'm in the South East. This weekend we've had a little rain, but no where near enough. It's the first we've seen for weeks. The grass everywhere is dry and brown, and my Mahonia has dried up in the heat and doesn't look as if it will recover. The garden backs on to a school playing field (currently a desert) and a huge ornamental cherry tree grows next to my fence. It's currently shedding leaves as if it was September, and the tiny cherries that normally carpet our garden haven't appeared at all.It doesn't bode well for some of our agricultural growers.

I wonder if your plants look sickly because they are infected with pests of some kind, possibly because they've had a good breeding season which itself might depend somewhat on the weather over the spring and summer? The wasps will be there to eat them - helping, in other words.

Our plums ripened early and plentifully. We’re usually picking them all the way through August, but I’ve already emptied the tree.

We had some of our figs tonight as a dessert with Greek yogurt and a sprinkling of seeds 👍

We keep all the washing up water and DH waters the garden throughout the day.

I no longer run the tap water when cleaning my teeth.

Yes, I remember 1976, with my 5 year old son and 4 year old daughter. We spent so much time together picking strawberries at the local farm.
