Hard to beleive my eldest will 47 this year.

The song I associated with my eldest son birth is perfect by fairground attraction

I was stuck in the house, baby blues in full spate, feeling very down that I couldn't get to the Balloon Fiesta and watching them instead from the upstairs window. Elton John's It's No Sacrifice came on the radio and put it all into perspective for me.
Apparently as a baby my Mum said Fingal's Cave always worked to stop me yowling and settle me down!

Do You Really Want To Hurt Me by Boy George was the number 1 song when I had my first DD. We had chosen her name before she was born (we had a boy's name lined up as well!) and the morning after, my DH switched on the radio and the song that was being played was "Louise" by Phil Everly - the same name we had chosen! It wasn't a particularly big hit either so wasn't played all the time.

When I was pregnant with DS in 1975 the song I most remember is "You're having my baby" by Paul Anka & Odia Coates.

''Two little boys'' by Rolf Harris when my first child was born in November 1969.I used to sing into him.Pity it was that singer Bute were ignorant about him them.
When I was pregnant with him it was song sung by Peter with a surname I cannot remember. It was about a girl called Marie Claire and I was going to give my baby, if a girl, that name. No gender scans in those days!

Pink princess was it Peter Sarstedt?

A huge variety of music that bought back special memories😍

When my daughter was born, all they seemed to be playing was Chesney Hawkes' 'I am the one and only'. With my son, it was a Take That song - Back for Good, I think. Neither of which were really my musical cup of tea!

merlotgran, Gds was a nightmare for getting off to nap in the daytime. One day I put him in his pushchair facing the garden, with Classic FM on. First piece was the start of Elgar’s cello concerto - Gds was asleep 5 minutes later - with minimal fussing!

Wonderful Baby by Don McClean. Eldest born September 1974. Brings tears to my eyes.

I listened to a lot of Mozart around the births of my children. I think there was a theory around at the time that listening to Mozart in the womb increased your child's IQ or some such nonsense.

Anyway the song that sticks in my mind is Cherubino's solo aria "Voi Che Sapete" from "The Marriage of Figaro".

I remember when DD1 was a small baby there was no daytime TV and pre Terry Wogan the radio was pretty dire so I used to settle down to feed her listening to the the background music of the TV testcard.
It was always piano concertos by Grieg and Tchaikovsky and Schubert’s unfinished symphony. She was a very placid baby. Perhaps that’s why. 🎶🎵

I don’t remember any particular song from my first child, so I have just looked at the top ten from that week.

It was I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor! grin

The only song that reminds me of babies is really the tune of the 🎄carol that begins, ‘Little Jesus, sweetly sleep…’ since I’ve sung it endlessly to both dds and Gdcs - ‘Little bubba, go to sleep, go to sleep…..’ - repeated ad infinitum!

Grannybags

Isn’t she lovely by Stevie Wonder - even though my baby turned out to be a boy!

You beat me to it Grannybags. Mine was a girl.

A couple of years later when I was pregnant with my son, it was Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick.

My 3rd child (daughter) after two boys , was born in December 1978 and it was ‘When a child is born’ by Johnnie Mathis playing.

Marriedalongtime Mon 21-Jul-25 08:23:17

With my second DS, it was Zoom by Fat Larry’s Band. He doesn’t speak to us anymore so every time this comes on the radio, I have to switch it off it I’ll cry buckets…..

‘Annie’s Song’ by John Denver.

One of the other mums had a guitar, and played it to the rest of us, (there were 4 in the ward, back when you stayed in hospital a week after birth).

Can still picture us all sitting there listening.

My DD, (we didn’t call her Annie though) had it as her first dance song at her wedding. Hadn’t shed a tear, but did then. 😢

Morningtown Ride by the Seekers. It was playing on the radio in the hospital.

Kate1949 Sun 20-Jul-25 22:25:29

Can't remember but my daughter sang I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You to our granddaughter.

merlotgran Sun 20-Jul-25 22:15:52

DS was born at home. The first night was particularly exhausting but I remember DH waking me up the next morning with tea and toast and Ray Stevens singing Everything Is Beautiful on the kitchen radio.
