I had just gone on Maternity Leave September 1978 ,for my first child.
The Song always being Played was 'Lucky Stars' by Dean Freidman.
This brings back so many memories when i hear this
Hard to beleive my eldest will 47 this year.
Any songs remind you of your pregnancies?

@JP 123 - Minnie Rippeton !

“You are so beautiful to me” was Joe Cocker

mine was the endlessly played ‘Baker Street’ - Gerry Rafferty,
the plaintive Raphael Ravenscroft alto sax riff whips me straight back to that happy time - “it’s a boy!” - 1978 October

‘All I want for Christmas is a Beatle’ by The Crystals - I got a daughter on Christmas morning! Also ‘Dominique’ by the Singing Nun. Many years later I asked her whether she would have liked to be named ‘Dominique’ - a definite ‘No!’

The Wimbledon theme tune, watching the tennis while feeding the baby and forgetting to switch to the other breast. Baby blotto, didn't get changed.

When my first was born the number one was Don’t Leave Me This Way.
Second, The Only Way Is Up.
Third, Goodnight Girl.
All rather appropriate, I thought.

I used to sing “you are so beautiful” to me followed by “when I was just a little girl”

I’ve just looked at what was popular in 1971 when I had my first child, and I’ve never heard of any of it. I just didn’t listen to that kind of music. I think I listened to Radio 4 mostly.

My son's song was I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston.

He was a very clingy baby, couldn't put him down for 5 minutes. Then one day he was grizzling. MTV was on and Whitney was singing. Captivated him. He just gazed at her.

This will sound shocking but we actually taped this song on video a few times and he'd lie there, quiet as a mouse and I was able to go to the loo without having him clamped to me like a limpet

Fridayschild. That is so sad, brought tears to my eyes. I presume you got well and were reunited with your baby.

I have a similar reaction th Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars. I just can’t listen to it, but no reason why .

One Day I’ll Fly Away by Randy Crawford, 1980. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I was ill and was taken in to the antenatal ward a few days early. Then the yellow came out. Turned out I had hepatitis - they reckoned it was a viral hepatitis. I gave birth and they took her away. No one ever knew where I caught it. I was kept in for 8 days and wasn’t allowed to have my baby. They did give me photos and brought her to my window into the corridor and showed me her every day. I cried buckets. I was desperate to hold her. My DH was the only person allowed in and he had to be fully gowned and masked. It was the most awful time. Anything that came into my room was marked “contaminated” and kept there. I have a real love/hate of that song.

Our first son was born the night ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo so I have always had a soft spot for them. Went to see the show recently, their music still hits the spot

Beautiful Boy by John Lennon was my firstborn boy's lullaby. Also for my 2nd boy and subsequently, 3 grandsons too! Takes me straight back to those first days whenever I hear it.

I was living abroad when I had my first child. Far too young at 19 but holiday romances happen

Hey Little Girl by Icehouse played constantly. I'd dance along with my beautiful girl to this great tune. One hit wonder i think.

Thanks for the reminder, I've just been playing it now. My 44 year old daughter is a bit big to be twirled around to it now!

I was feeling very nauseous in early 1979 when expecting my first baby. Unfortunately whenever I hear Tubeway Army’s Are Friends Electric and The Knack’s My Sherona I feel ill all over again and have to switch the radio off. More happily, NCT classes suggested using a song to tap your fingers to during extreme labour (did that actually help anyone?) and I was going to use Day Trip to Bangor by Fiddler’s Dram. Thankfully I had such a swift labour I didn’t get to try it out.

Am I the only one on here that has no idea what was playing lol. But I do recall Pope was shot the same day my daughter was born 1981.

Bernard Cribbens?

Actually it's Bernard Cribbins.

Supergran1946 Tue 22-Jul-25 16:51:20

Exactly the same song for me. My daughter was born in Nov 1975 and is still lovely xx

Granmarderby10 Tue 22-Jul-25 16:48:04

Yes Celieanne86 these were the songs I grew up listening to especially I saw A Mouse ( where? There on the stairs right there….and Bernard Cribbins as well as The Beatles/ Beach Boys et al.
There was a very diverse range of “pop” music then with fun/novelty songs played regularly on radio.
Way too serious and self conscious nowdays

First baby in 1962 I was in hospital for weeks and DH bought me a small red radio as hospital radio wasn’t on in the day, the one song played over and over was Frank Ifield, I Remember Youuuuu, all us Mums used to join in with the Yooouuu, then we had I Saw a mouse Windmill in Old Amsterdam who sang that Ronnie Hilton what happened to him, who remembers Right said Fred, Bernard Crippen, and Acker Bilk, but my favourite was When my Little Girl Is Smiling, Craig Douglas, yes my little girl was when she arrived safely. Lovely memories.

The song I associated with my eldest son birth is perfect by fairground attraction

That's a great one!

My daughter was born in September 75 and the following year Brotherhood of Man won the Eurovision with Save Your Kisses for Me. It was on the radio a lot and I used to sing along to it (badly I have no doubt) but she used to pick up on it and smile. If I ever hear it these days it takes me straight back to our flat in Liverpool with our smiley baby girl.
