Just a bit of Friday trivia grin

Mine has to be the soap powders / fabric conditioners. Could literally spend half an hour looking at all the different brands .

I quite enjoy "Lidle in the Middle" and Aldi's Special Buys in the middle too. My snooty brother refers to it as a jumble sale, saying, "What's that about?". I love looking at it all even if I don't buy anything though I've picked up cookery books, masonry paint etc. at bargain prices.

The Middle of Lidl!

Always worth a look 😀

I loath shopping full stop. I know women are meant to love it. I hate it. I don't want to linger. I have had such trouble with rudeness by staff in Waitrose, I refuse to go there anymore. Sainsbury's, example lady probably in her 60s. Me,"excuse me where is the long life milk", reply from her "same place it's always been". Morrisons shouted at in the middle of the store by the manager. I didn't go in there for years. A couple of months ago, I saw a dress advertised £28, went in got the dress, fabric conditioner and box of chocolates £9 with the More card. Should have been about £40, got the receipt, I always check now, almost £90, I always check my receipts, she had put everything down twice, plus the chocolates were showing at the original price. I told her, she just shrugged I said could she cancel it and re scan, she said no,I'd have to go to customer service for a refund. I now shop in Lidl.

I very rarely encounter rudeness from any supermarket staff - do others?

Rarely!

The staff at our Waitrose are lovely as are those in Tesco too.
Rarely get to other supermarkets except Lidl where they are pleasant but look rushed off their feet!

The aisle with the shortest queue for the checkout - hate shopping of any kind.

RosieandherMaw: Here in America we call that"special" aisle in Aldi "The Aisle of Shame".There's even a Facebook group by that name. It is jokingly called that because fans of that aisle are obsessed with it and admit they overspend there.

Littlester, you're lucky. My oldest daughter used to be a manager of a very big Sainsbury's,I shopped there once, got served by Phil in his 70s, she said he's rude to everyone! My granddaughter 15,has ADHD and on the spectrum, you cannot see this but that's not the point. A couple of weeks ago, she went to a Heart Foundation shop with her mum,my daughter. She bought a teddy, went to the cashier, who picked it up, turned it over, and said "aren't you too old for these things". My poor granddaughter fled the shop. My daughter said if she hadn't wanted it so badly, she would have walked out. It could have been for her little sister who was in the pushchair. There is no service anymore. Mumsnet says its because folk work for minimum wage and are bitter. Well, don't take it out on the customer
Best service I had recently,Asda and I told them.

EkwaNimitee Fri 25-Jul-25 08:13:33

The wine aisle!
Whenever DH came into town with me and caught up with me in the supermarket, he inevitably found me there...and got quite the wrong idea about me, ignoring the fact that the trolley was already full of other items.
These days, it's mostly home deliveries but I still get tempted in the wine aisles occasionally.

Lidl is my local supermarket. It's small and I wizz round to buy essentials. I walk there so have to consider what I can carry home.
I bought myself 2 treats today; a pink hydrangea and a bottle of red wine.

My other shop isn't a supermarket. It's a community owned store which has a refillery, sells artisan bread delivered from Edinburgh, Borders meat and venison, milk in glass bottles, local free range eggs and vegetables from East Lothian. Etc
They also sell my pots - I'm a potter.
Tomorrow I shall be volunteering there on the till. It's such an asset to our town.

Oh, I know exactly where you mean! I love that shop - popped in the other day when I was at the dentist and bought a few bits and bobs. I will make a point of looking at the pots next time.

Scribbles. I'm the same as you with regards to the detergent aisle. My eyes and nose start running and I start to sneeze. I only use Sensitive laundry liquid and Method products for cleaning.

kittylester Fri 25-Jul-25 07:26:51

I quite like looking at the clothes and I love the 'homewares' bits.

growstuff Fri 25-Jul-25 00:09:22

I cannot walk down the laundry aisle in a supermarket. All those overwhelming chemical perfumes induce a strong allergic response: coughing, streaming eyes, flushed skin, light-headedness. It's horrible.
(I get my groceries delivered, including non-scented laundry products).
If I have a favourite section, it's probably fruit & veg.

Not sure why I thought today was Friday but never mind grin
Great reading all your replies smile

You're in good company! grin
Last Friday I was convinced all day that it was Saturday. When I went in to town I was puzzled when there was no market.
On real Saturday I felt I had gained an extra day of the weekend. grin

Lomo123 Thu 24-Jul-25 22:53:34

Cleaning product aisle then soap powders closely followed by booze aisle. Reduced section for a rake mainly because it's always different stuff.

Casdon Thu 24-Jul-25 22:45:32

I don’t linger at all in the cleaning aisle I admit, I buy British cleaning products wherever I can, so I go to B&M or Home Bargains for them. Dental products are my next British made project.

Allira Thu 24-Jul-25 22:21:24

The good thing is that between us we are pretty evenly distributed over the supermarket, the only place there’s queuing is in the wine aisle.

😁

Fruit, veg and wine!

Cleaning aisle? To be endured as fast as possible.

MrsQuigley Thu 24-Jul-25 21:48:09

I thought I had lost a whole day somewhere but no, it is still Thursday.
My favourite aisle in the supermarket currently is the chiller aisle for a bit of light relief.
