Wearing or not wearing makeup

Our DM would put on her makeup every day, and so do I if I'm going out shopping or suchlike or we are expecting visitors. It's for my own self love. My twin sister does the same. I know that I look better with it on and it only takes a few minutes - not plastering it on or lip lining etc though. It's the same reason I continue to colour my hair, sew fashionable clothes and keep abreast of the news. For me.

I've always liked make up, but minimal. My skin loves moisturiser and a light foundation. But these days it's more about medical reasons. I've had two skin cancers on my face (and three elsewhere), so have to wear facial factor 50 all year round. Also, I have Rosacea so have to use Rozex ointment under the moisturiser. And a concealer.
Then just a little eyeshadow or mascara, and Maybelline Lip Ink, but only on days when I'm going out.
Anyway, each to his own. To be honest, wearing a little make up makes me feel better about myself. And why shouldn't we anyway. Why the criticism?

Why does it matter to you? Everyone is different, just mind your own business?

Surely that applies to every post, yes everyone is different so we can all have an opinion.

I dont understand wearing makeup when alone at home, if you dont keep looking at yourself how does it make you feel better.

No make up here. Too lazy, it feels awful and I look ridiculous. If others wonder why or judge then they should just mind their own businesss.

I agree Poppyred.

Never wear it.

Never wear any, factor 50, that’s it. I have an acquaintance who does, including the lip outlining, she looks like a marionette.

Just wondering why some women (mainly) feel the need to wear makeup all the time? Some will say because it makes them feel better about themselves, but why? You can’t see it yourself unless you keep looking in the mirror and when you’re out and about shopping nobody really takes any notice of you. I get it if you’re eating out or at work but not everyday or when you’re at home alone.

My , much older , friend wears make up . She has a habit of pushing her hair back from her forehead , resulting in dusty hair and a clear demarcation line on her forehead , it’s very distracting when I’m chatting to her !
I used to belong to the make up brigade , but quit when I got a suntan one year and the makeup was so daft looking
In my late 80s it’s a waste of time now

I’m a make up fan - every day. After almost 60 years, I’ve got it down to a fine art and it only takes a few minutes, in the time it takes to dry off after my shower. My good friend has never has bothered with make up, but has dreadful skin damage due to excessive sunbathing. Another has multiple allergies, she would love to add a bit of colour to her face, but can’t.

What about clothes Love? Some people wear nothing but designer labels, even at home - they too can’t see themselves, but they’re doing no harm?

I think everyone to their own. If it feels good - do it.

In a conversation on this very subject, my sister who is exceptionally vain, says, she won’t go to put the dustbins out without a full face of make up on - the juxtaposition of these images passing her by completely

I have friends in their seventies never worn make up, striking looks, another late seventies still outlining her lips , using face powder, looks much older, will not come downstairs until she has her face on, for sixty years, same powder, same colours.

Most Pale ladies look better with a little make up on,
makes you feel better about yourself too.
Other people take you more seriously, as though you have made an effort with your appearance and not let yourself go.

For older ladies its important to keep up with skincare and make up, keep it light, less is more, otherwise we would still be applying Ponds Cold/Vanishing Cream, Creme Puff, spitting in our mascara blocks and applying magenta lipstick before removing metal curlers and venturing out thinking we could give Elizabeth Taylor competition.
Make up also protects skin, against dust, dirt, pollution,
uv rays,
tightens your skin, keeps your hands from your face,
look better, feel better.
make up is good.
