The US president said that a “horrible invasion” was taking place, adding it had to “stop”, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

“Asked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: “On immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
He continued: “You’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.”
“Some leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.”
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: “Last month we had nobody entering our country.”

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! 🇬🇧

What we need is the actual truth

Ah yes, the truth - now there’s an interesting concept!

Are you offering to house the homeless and service folk? Is that where you argument goes?

Are you?

Why should Whitewave do that? She pays her taxes like everyone else.

So do I. Do you?

A poster upthread wondered should we believe articles in The Telegraph, so I asked google a question. The response is,
'The Telegraph is generally considered to be a right wing newspaper. It has a long history of endorsing Conservative viewpoints on political and social issues.'
There you have it. If you are right wing and Conservative you are more likely to accept and believe their articles.
Hope this helps.

So does that insinuate they do not tell the truth?
Only to be believed if you are a Conservative voter?

No Maremia doesn’t help at all. If the article had been in The Daily Mirror then google would have said the same but that it was a left wing newspaper with a history of endorsing Labour viewpoints.
What we need is the actual truth.

I'm sure she will have welcomed them as I expect they've more than doubled her congregation!

Migrants have been known to claim to be turning to Christianity to well meaning vicars who believe them. This increases their chances of being approved for asylum.

No the hotel isn’t tacky Reform supporting, agenda pursuing Oakeshott and her video is tacky.

I think to be frank we are beginning to disappear down a rabbit hole here.

I think before we go any further I need to outline my position.

So further up this thread I indicated that I do indeed think that immigration is an issue and needs tackling. I am however also aware that we have a backlog (although reducing) of people needing assessment. Meanwhile these people - men women and children need housing. Indeed the government has a legal opportunity to do so.

These people will not be living in luxury as Oakeshott and her ilk are trying to suggest. And I am sad to see people so gullible as to believe her nonsense.

What needs to be done is to understand the daily allowance paid by the government to contractors and you will then understand that adequate hardly covers it.

In the UK, asylum seekers in self-catered accommodation receive ÂŁ49.18 per week, while those in full-board accommodation receive ÂŁ8.86 per week. This financial support is intended to cover essential living needs like food, clothing, and toiletries.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Self-catered accommodation:
Asylum seekers in self-catered accommodation receive ÂŁ49.18 per week, which is intended to cover the cost of food, clothing, toiletries, and other essentials.
Full-board accommodation:
Those in full-board accommodation, where meals are provided, receive a reduced weekly allowance of ÂŁ8.86.
Additional support:
There are also additional weekly payments for pregnant women (ÂŁ5.25) and children under the age of 3 (ÂŁ5.25).
Payment method:
The allowance is typically provided on a payment card (ASPEN card).

The Copthorne near Gatwick has been empty for years and presumably contractors are renting it and in turn sub-contracting to the government.

I know where it is and in fact years ago used it for visiting officials/revenue officers/accountants from Germany, Spain and Italy governments.

I never thought of it as luxurious I must say - just adequate.

The footage is tacky to say the least and Oakeshott’s agenda for Reform is crystal clear.

So that makes it all right then? Continue hosting migrants at taxpayers expense because, in your view, the hotel is tacky although another poster would disagree. It is disgusting! British families or ex servicemen should become before migrants. Only when they’re all adequately housed should migrants be accommodated.

You asked earlier what the solution should be. My view is people like yourself, vociferously pro migration, should be prepared to house and sponsor a migrant or migrant family for at least a year, possibly with some government money, and after a year of assistance and assimilation they’re on their own. Fund and rent their own accommodation without handouts, pay for medical care they need, support themselves. If, and in,y if, they are willing to meet these conditions should they be allowed to stay.

The Telegraph is now beginning to endorse Reform..it has published quite a lot of supporting articles for Farage lately. Thus the immigrant articles.

Expect more

Oh!

Well, it seemed fine when we stayed there but that was a long time ago.
Copthorne hotels are not the height of luxury but it seemed rather more than adequate.

I expect it changed over the years - hotels do don’t they.

We had a budget to keep to, to hold Fiscalus meetings with our European partners over tax evasion, and very successful they were too😊

Surely if they were lying, and clearly you hope so, they’d be sued for printing lies.

The Rev Sue Wharton, priest in charge of Holy Trinity Church in Lower Beeding, said that she had not heard any complaints of noise and litter being caused by the migrant families, many of whom had become committed members of the church congregation. “I have found them very helpful – that is the people I have come across.”

She said the families housed at the Cisswood House Hotel “don’t have it easy. It is mostly families there and, if you are a family, you are in one room.”

She added: “It is up to the Home Office to decide their fate. While they are with us we will be kind to them – that’s the feedback we get.”

On the other hand:

Residents have expressed various concerns, particularly regarding the impact on local amenities and property values. Nick and Becky Illes, who live next to the hotel, described their experiences—complaining of excessive noise from children using the car park as a playground late into the evening and an increase in litter, which they claim often includes unpleasant finds from their dogs. Mr Illes noted a troubling rise in crime since the migrants’ arrival, stating, “We used to leave our cars unlocked because we never had any crime around here, but since the migrants arrived, we have had stuff stolen three times.”

Lewis Hayward, another nearby resident, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the disruption caused by noise and the deterioration of the hotel’s grounds, which had once been well-maintained. He remarked, “The management have left the grounds to get completely overgrown
the noise is non-stop and every single night.” Although the hotel’s former purpose as a community hub is long gone, some locals miss the social benefits once generated by its operation.

If what they are saying about the sea levels is correct many from Europe and the USA will be looking for new homes in the next 20-30 years. Already many Pacific Islands are arranging to move their islanders to Australia in a phased move over the next ten years or so as their islands slowly disappear.

I wonder if the day will come when we are begging an already greener Africa to let us migrate?

Perhaps we'll be migrating to Antartica.
It was green once.
