I think before we go any further I need to outline my position.

So further up this thread I indicated that I do indeed think that immigration is an issue and needs tackling. I am however also aware that we have a backlog (although reducing) of people needing assessment. Meanwhile these people - men women and children need housing. Indeed the government has a legal opportunity to do so.

These people will not be living in luxury as Oakeshott and her ilk are trying to suggest. And I am sad to see people so gullible as to believe her nonsense.

What needs to be done is to understand the daily allowance paid by the government to contractors and you will then understand that adequate hardly covers it.

I know where it is and in fact years ago used it for visiting officials/revenue officers/accountants from Germany, Spain and Italy governments.

I never thought of it as luxurious I must say - just adequate.

So that makes it all right then? Continue hosting migrants at taxpayers expense because, in your view, the hotel is tacky although another poster would disagree. It is disgusting! British families or ex servicemen should become before migrants. Only when they’re all adequately housed should migrants be accommodated.

You asked earlier what the solution should be. My view is people like yourself, vociferously pro migration, should be prepared to house and sponsor a migrant or migrant family for at least a year, possibly with some government money, and after a year of assistance and assimilation they’re on their own. Fund and rent their own accommodation without handouts, pay for medical care they need, support themselves. If, and in,y if, they are willing to meet these conditions should they be allowed to stay.

I expect it changed over the years - hotels do don’t they.

We had a budget to keep to, to hold Fiscalus meetings with our European partners over tax evasion, and very successful they were too😊

We stayed at The Copthorne years ago before we caught a flight from Gatwick and another time when it was DH's work Christmas do. It was very good.

If what they are saying about the sea levels is correct many from Europe and the USA will be looking for new homes in the next 20-30 years. Already many Pacific Islands are arranging to move their islanders to Australia in a phased move over the next ten years or so as their islands slowly disappear.

I wonder if the day will come when we are begging an already greener Africa to let us migrate?
