The US president said that a “horrible invasion” was taking place, adding it had to “stop”, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

“Asked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: “On immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
He continued: “You’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.”
“Some leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.”
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: “Last month we had nobody entering our country.”

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! 🇬🇧

Accommodation should be clean but basic since we’re all paying for it.

I agree.

No-one would want people seeking asylum to be housed in some of the dreadful, mouldy homes which many UK citizens have to endure.

Basic, clean, decent housing should be provided for both sectors.

Some posters were aghast that asylum seekers were to be housed in disused barracks. I have no idea why. For single men they are ideal. There are empty married quarters too, for those with children.

If what they are saying about the sea levels is correct many from Europe and the USA will be looking for new homes in the next 20-30 years. Already many Pacific Islands are arranging to move their islanders to Australia in a phased move over the next ten years or so as their islands slowly disappear.

I wonder if the day will come when we are begging an already greener Africa to let us migrate?

Oh wait, there’s another one. The Daily Express cites the Copthorne Hotel, also in West Sussex.

Ocado and Amazon deliveries every day. Their kids ferried in minibuses and taxis to local schools while the local children have to go under their own steam. Read the articles yourselves and the views of local residents and businesses whose lives have been affected.

Still, so long as the migrants are happy that’s all that matters to certain posters.

It has been published in the mainstream press but must not be mentioned on Gransnet!

It could be a different W Sussex hotel, of course,

woodenspoon Tue 29-Jul-25 15:37:25

Lower Beeding, West Sussex. The Cisswood House Hotel. For those who want to google, just in case the Daily Telegraph is lying. As if!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 29-Jul-25 15:35:20

Didn’t realise this story was in the Daily Mail too Allira.
Certainly not named the hotel in the Telegraph article.

Say the article is true[no idea, not read it, but assuming it is],

Some people on this forum, and in real life, really dont mind how much is spent.
There is no limit.

So long as it’s not their own money. If it was they’d be singing a different tune.

Not even sure about that, personally.

Nor how many come in.

Er, what?????? Ignorant and off topic.

Explain what is ignorant and off topic.

Just because Trump said no immigrant entered the USA does not mean it is true .

Would posters believe this story if it was in The Guardian not The Telegraph?

What about the Daily Mail (which named the hotel!)?

Oh, perhaps not 😁

As for single adult females, we can all see the overwhelming majority are single adult males. Unless they intend to transition while holed up in 4* luxury!

How do you know the name of the hotel in the Telegraph article WWmk2?
It doesn’t state it?

I think you know the answer to that already😄 it’s a kind of prayer book isn’t it?😇

woodenspoon Tue 29-Jul-25 15:24:39

They should be asking for taxpayers to take them in. I’m assuming you’ll be first in the queue as you feel so strongly whitewavemark2.
