The US president said that a “horrible invasion” was taking place, adding it had to “stop”, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

“Asked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: “On immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
He continued: “You’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.”
“Some leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.”
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: “Last month we had nobody entering our country.”

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! 🇬🇧

The Americans voted for Trump. They like him. Sure some didn’t they’d prefer Biden. But plenty voted for Trump. Americans do things differently than here where it’s all wishywashy and fear of offending minorities. Trump May be offensive to some on Gransnet but not to all in the wider scheme of things.

I think many on these forums won’t be happy until the UK becomes an Islamic Middle Eastern enclave. Be careful what you wish for.

No other country puts migrants up in hotels, all expenses paid, allows them bank cards, lets them commit crimes without fear of deportation, allows Taliban into the country amongst the Afghan airlift ( Daily Telegraph), our own soldiers living on the street while the Afghans are housed. Also just read 85 Sharia courts in the UK. Still, according to some gransnetters those who think this is disgusting, of which I am one, is a racist. Well so be it.

The Sharia courts is what worries me most

If you can’t be bothered Kandinsky why exactly do you think I should be? I don’t have to justify myself, my past posts already explain what I think - I’m not a lefty either by the way, just further left than you are.

Kandinsky Mon 28-Jul-25 21:28:13

Haven’t got time to ‘check you out’ - be a lot quicker if you just summed up what you support in a few sentences.

Casdon Mon 28-Jul-25 21:24:52

Kandinsky

What do you support Casdon, if you don’t mind me asking.

All my previous posts are there Kandinsky, check me out?

Kandinsky Mon 28-Jul-25 21:23:34

Well what do the lefties on here actually support?
Because woodenspoon is right.
Many areas of the UK are now ( and have been for a while ) predominantly Muslim. And that situation will only increase.
And you’re not bothered in the slightest - which is baffling because Muslims have very traditional, some might say, right wing, views.

I have never seen one post on Gransnet that even suggests support for unfettered immigration to the UK woodenspoon, and I believe that you haven’t either. The problem on here is that so often people don’t really read the posts of those they believe have different views to their own, they jump to assumptions.

I’d like to be shown an example of someone supporting unfettered immigration.

Just because you’ve seen no posts that support that Iam64 doesn’t mean there haven’t been any. Logically, if we continue to allow these undocumented male migrants from the boats, the Afghans shipped over supposedly afraid of the Taliban, not to mention the areas in Leicester, Tower Hamlets etc which are predominantly Muslim, where do you think, logically, this country will end up in 20-30 years time? Many posters on here support unfettered immigration into the UK, anyone who dares to challenge those views is called heartless, racist amongst many other things. Not that it bothers me. It’s their way of shutting down dissent, rather like Starmer is with his backbenchers.
Thankfully, as Oreo has said the tide is gradually turning but it’s too late.

Oreo Mon 28-Jul-25 20:13:02

I think the country was getting close indeed to being wishy washy for fear of offending minorities, but thankfully the tide is turning.
Think of police and teachers and social services worrying about being called racist in regard to the grooming gangs.
Think about how close we got to accepting the rabbit hole of trans nonsense until courts decided a woman was a biologically born female.

Iam64 Mon 28-Jul-25 19:27:02

Americans do things differently than we do wooden spoon, that’s one thing we can agree on. I don’t agree this country is wishy washy for fear of offending minorities,

Can you explain how you explain, point to any posts on this forum that makes you conclude “many on these forums won’t be happy until the UK becomes an Islamic Middle Eastern enclave “

I’ve seen no posts that support that

I am hoping that he's a 'one off'.

Trump got in because he wasn't a politician. He is just a powerful businessman trying to sort the world out in his own way. You may not like that way or the man but this is the future of 'politics'.

Trump got in because he conned people by telling them lots of lies, when there was no credible opposition. Like Farage, he is a reflector, not a leader, he has no manners, and no understanding of how to get other countries on board with his ideas - ultimately he is just a big I am.

I don’t personally think that is the future of politics, I think it’s just another phase. People want certainty about their worlds, and so far at least, he isn’t providing that because he is not delivering on his promises to his own people, and he is an arch ditherer on both trade and world security. Politics will certainly be more media led in the future, but I believe there will be a leaning back towards morality.

No politician should have it easy. But all criticism should be valid and justified.

I agree. In Starmer's case it's certainly valid and justified.

Aren’t all politicians in leadership roles criticised in this country? Should Starmer have it easy?

MayBee Keir Starmer has fired a warning shot to rebellious Labour MPs and moved to reassert his grip on his party by removing the whip from four backbenchers for repeatedly breaching discipline.

Labour MPs Rachael Maskell, Neil Duncan-Jordan, Brian Leishman and Chris Hinchliff were told they had lost the party whip on Wednesday afternoon for repeatedly rebelling against the government.

A Labour source told the Guardian the whip was being removed from “persistent rebels”, while a further three Labour MPs were stripped of their government trade envoy roles.

I know that. But he hasn’t removed it from as many people as Johnson did in one swoop. No matter what he does people criticise. One minute he’s weak. The next he’s ruthless.

eazybee Mon 28-Jul-25 17:54:19

I expect they are terrified.

Starmer needs to listen to his MPs, but even more important, he needs to listen to the electorate. He should have visited Epping, Diss and Canary Wharf and shown some concern before dashing off to sit at Trump's feet..

woodenspoon Mon 28-Jul-25 17:49:27

He’s closing down dissent by removing the whip from the rebels.

Perhaps Starmer had trouble extrapolating exactly what Trump meant from the drivel that emanates from his mouth?

Casdon Mon 28-Jul-25 17:37:07

I think p
.d off describes it more accurately. It must be very trying indeed to have to be positive whilst dealing with an egotistical fool telling you how to run your country. The nearest analogy was Macron, whose patience looked equally tested.

Starmer looked out of his depth and his wife ill at ease.
They don't do politics like Trump who works with a series of soundbites to match the Instagram age.
But his policies have cut USA Illegal immigration - down to 0 last week, we are told by independent watchers. Some things are going right for him.
