The US president said that a “horrible invasion” was taking place, adding it had to “stop”, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

“Asked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: “On immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
He continued: “You’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.”
“Some leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.”
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: “Last month we had nobody entering our country.”

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! 🇬🇧

Just as an aside, Sago as we have obviously moved on in this debate,
We have had two asylum hotels in my small town and in the next village. Both have been no trouble and seem to have caused almost no upset.

The Muslim men in the village were regularly ferried to a nearby mosque by the Muslim men in the area. I think they have taken them under their wing so to speak.

The village hotel was due to be "emptied" about now. I have heard nothing at all about it so no idea what has happened there. The point is, here at least, we haven't seen any of the chaos that is on the media.

Do you mean just like Hamas in Gaza? They were elected, and so should be negotiated with? Just asking, for a different Thread. Although, to be fair, don't think Hamas has a strong measure of support now.

Grantanow Sun 27-Jul-25 11:28:00

He was elected by the Americzn people and has a strong measure of their support. We must treat him as a serious politician. His personal life is largely irrelevant to that. I can recall politicians of the past who were far worse than him ( in reality or alleged) and with whom we negotiated over many years. Some of them were responsible for atrocities and became respected leaders.

The truth, increasingly, is what you want to believe.

Exactly
This is one of the reasons Trump and Farage are popular. They appeal to fear, anxiety, misery and shout simple solutions to complex problems which don’t work

Cos that's the actual 'truth' grin

Another telling it like it is nugget from a POTUS post on Social Media.

"One year ago our Country was DEAD, with almost no hope of revival. Today the USA is the 'hottest' and most respected Country anywhere in the World."

^It would appear that Melania was in the US legally^

How strange! That you could can be in a country legally but not able to work.
Strange rule.

I hope that was irony.

To clarify :

is perfectly normal across the world, including UK. Countless tourists, students, even asylum seekers, are legally in the country (with their passport) but unable to work because their visa doesn't permit it.

Yea, because using AI generated videos is telling it as it is?
Sorry your wee Pal couldn't find the protests, Fried.
He would have enjoyed reading the funny, but often rude, banners.

Parsley3 Sun 27-Jul-25 09:35:51

On July 20, 2025, Trump shared an AI-generated video on Truth Social, depicting former President Barack Obama being arrested by FBI agents in the Oval Office. The clip was set to “YMCA” by the Village People and accompanied by the caption **“No one is above the law.”**
Trump telling it like it is on Truth Social. Trump can post over 36 times in a single day, blending celebratory graphics, policy boasts, culture war messages, and conspiratorial rhetoric. He must be glued to his phone.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 27-Jul-25 09:04:39

I'm a little intrigued by those who support Mr Trump saying that he " tells us like it is". Much of what he says seems utter nonsense.
Lots of conspiracy theories re his predecessors
Complaints about the idiot who appointed the man in charge of the federal reserve- himself, actually
Passing out parade of new soldiers being treated to a long chat about his very rich pal and hir trophy wife
How his professor uncle told him about teaching the Unabomber, who, actually, did not attend the said university, and was only outed as such after the uncle was dead...
I could go on, but he's a Big Fibber and maybe in cognitive decline, and please don't look at his releases on Truth Social if you want to believe he is a functioning adult.

That is very common fro immigrants. She had a visitor visa that clearly stated she was not allowed to work- but she did, for a long time, illegally. She then miraculously got an 'Einstein fast permit' which are special accelerated visas for exceptionally talented or intelligent people that would seriously contribute to the USA's success in sciences, research or top rank sport, etc. Not quite sure which exceptional talents she demonstrated to Trump.

I used the word 'vile' because immigrants who come in illegally and are, for some reason, pushed to the top of the pile, often become the worst enemies of immigration themselves. I have knowy a few cases personally, in Europe (many LePen supporters are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation Italians, Spanish, North Africans), the USA and the UK.

Eloethan Sat 26-Jul-25 23:38:26

Probably people are frightened to demonstrate because Trump is a man who is known to retaliate with ever-increasing economic penalties.

Trump alluded to some European countries which are tough on migration.
Poland, Hungary, Finland and Estonia have managed it, so it is possible.

I accept that these countries don’t have the same ‘pull factor’ as the UK, so that needs to be addressed.

I said on another thread that I wish we had someone like Trump here.
I stand by that.

Migrants escaping war in Afghanistan /Syria/ Somalia are desperate for safety and security; they are hardly likely to want to live in any country neighbouring Russia in case it suffers the same fate as Ukraine. Estonia, Finland and Poland all fear that.

As for Poland being tough on migrants; how ironic.
In UK, the commonest landguage spoken is English.
The second most spoken language in UK, is Polish.

Matt Halliday, from Stranraer, said he had been driving around for two hours trying and failing to find protests to join.

They were all busy playing golf, perhaps?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 26-Jul-25 21:59:56

Fears that the visit would be a magnet for protesters appeared unfounded.

Matt Halliday, from Stranraer, said he had been driving around for two hours trying and failing to find protests to join.

He said Mr Trump had “stamped all over Scotland” with his grand golf resort plans, strong-arming local farmers and “bullying” the council over wind farm plans.

It doesn't follow that she and probably her parents are vile, though, does it.

It was a very nasty comment.

I don't believe even half of what I read these days. The days of real journalism are long in the past.

Where do you get your news and find out about what's happening in the world?

You have evidence for that statement?

AP is usually very reliable:

It would appear that Melania was in the US legally, but didn't have a work visa.

Blimey and out they pop out of the far right woodworm. Trump's father was an illegal immigrant, so is Melania and probably her parents, and so is Musk. Vile people.

I’m surprised at the posts saying Trump is improving America. In what way? He’s suppressing free speech, falling out with elite universities which bring so many benefits.
And - Elegran puts the objections about his personality and lack of ethics or a moral base so well

Maremia Sat 26-Jul-25 18:50:14

Just read it Casdon thanks.
'The birthplace of his mother.' That made me laugh. Do you know how long he spent in the actual house, thinking about his Mum and her heritage and how it must have been for her?
Think it was just about a minute.
Such respect! Such a bonnie wee laddie. Not.
