The US president said that a ā€œhorrible invasionā€ was taking place, adding it had to ā€œstopā€, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

ā€œAsked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: ā€œOn immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.ā€
He continued: ā€œYou’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.ā€
ā€œSome leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.ā€
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: ā€œLast month we had nobody entering our country.ā€

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

ā€˜Owns the world’ šŸ˜‚
Just wants what’s fair for America. He’s sick of the freeloaders.
Can’t say I blame him.

He and his ilk will see you as exactly that if you can't keep making him rich.

Are you suggesting that all those he has put out of work were "freeloaders"?

I wish he would mind his own business!

He has made it quite clear he doesn't give a hoot for Europe, so why is he now airing his views on how we do things?

He wants to own the world AuntieE - or as much of it as he can get his grubby little hands on. I don't think he will stop interfering until he's gone - and maybe not even then sadly.

No International charities support Christmas though - clue, they are international.

If the shops are here in the UK cannot see any reason for them not to have Christmas decorations up.

After all the London Mayor has Ramadan lights in Oxford St…

The Red Cross alienated many when they stopped Christmas decorations etc in their charity shops ā€˜in case it offends non Christians’ I believe. Woke nonsense from a CEO who earns Ā£200k+

Re the Red Cross:

My sister just messaged me ā€œThey are not only undermining the country of the very people who pay for their actions, but "proud" to do so? Never again. I will never support the Red Cross again. Is this their Gerald Ratner moment?ā€

😳

Doubt it. I’ve never given to them before but I will now. Do you not contribute to the lifeboats either because they rescue migrants?

Oh I do - the RLNI always gets a Christmas box. I don’t contribute to the Red Cross, but I think that they are a worthwhile charity.

Well the Uni-party have miscalculated.
Voters didn’t have a credible third option before.
They do now.

I’ve not heard Farage or Trump for that matter endorse modern slavery. Perhaps those who think otherwise can enlighten us.

On another note, the Telegraph are reporting today that the Red Cross are paying for flights to the UK for migrants to join family already here. Read all about it in the Telegraph for the doubters.

Why do you think they would? Do you think a party of the far left would come in with the leaders talking about "Communism tomorrow"?

However, if you think they will only say the things that mobilised the disaffected who are their base, you have learned nothing from the 20th Century dictators. From Joseph Stalin to Adolf Hitler, Augusto Pinoche to Mao Zedong and from Benito Mussolini to Kim Il Sung they start with what pleases the base we can clearly see, but they certainly don't stop there.

I voted for Brexit.
I admire Trump.
I think Farage has his finger on the pulse but I think Reform will do well but won’t form a government but will certainly hold the Tories feet to the fire. No bad thing!
Labour won’t get in again …. 😮

I’m sure Farage has his finger on the pulse. That’s why he offers people what they want albeit with having no comprehension whatsoever of how he’s going to deliver it…(bit like Brexit really…)

PoliticsNerd Sat 02-Aug-25 12:05:12

I'm quite convinced neither you, GrannyGravy13 nor many who voted that way, voted consciously for such things as modern slavery. Nor, I would guess, were most of those voting for Trump of Farage, or the (very) far-right figures in any country.

However, the people trying to gain power through such votes have shown themselves, little by little, to be like-minded in their views of extreme capitalism.

These people follow the "law of the jungle", where there are no rules or regulations, and survival depends solely on strength, cunning, or competition. The most extreme views of such people suggest a belief system which endorses a competitive environment where businesses or individuals act ruthlessly, with little regard for social welfare, ethics, or regulation.

Slavery, modern or otherwise, is a product of extreme capitalism, where it is deemed acceptable that everything, including your labour and your life, can and must be bought for the lowest price possible including zero, and without regard to law or convention.

If you voted for Brexit, or support Trump or Farage, et al, you are supporting that view of politics and economics.

I voted for Brexit.

I do not support slavery of any kind.

Do not tell me what politics or economic policies I support!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 02-Aug-25 11:36:30

But not to that extreme PoliticsNerd! Big difference.
You ought not to conflate slavery with capitalism in my opinion.
Far too simplistic to fit a narrative.

TerriBull modern day slavery is a bi-product of people trafficking.

This abhorrent industry is prevalent in the U.K. as well, cannabis farms, household staff, prostitution etc.

Yes, we may have engaged in slavery which was abhorrent, but so did other nations and in fact Africans themselves captured and sold people, but Britain was instrumental in abolishing the practice and other countries followed.

Slavery still exists today, sadly.

The North African Barbary Pirates enslaved thousands of Europeans.

Although slavery is no longer officially legal in Arab states, there are a lot of modern day slaves in those regions, a fact we should be more concerned about than any historical cases of slavery, because no amount of regret over that can change anything. Modern day slavery exists in many guises today unfortunately.
