Good morning!
Bit of fun. I will start with my non intent ended use. Got some jar covers from ikea. You put over yogurt etc in fridge. Come in three sizes. But the small size is perfect to grip my cava to open! Works on jars too!

Plastic chocolate drink bottles filled randomly with pulses. Cover with something decorative, add a small ball and you have corridor skittles for Christmas games

Puppy pads are perfect to put under cat litter in a litter tray.

So do I!

I collect extra shower caps in packets from hotels. Perfect for putting over food in the fridge.

Me too.
They are great for going over a mixing bowl when proving bread dough as well.

I use them when I am painting a room to keep my hair off my face and prevent paint getting into my hair. I used to use an old pair of (clean) knickers or sawn off tights but disposable shower caps are better.

I use vinegar to clean my kettle .
I boil it up and let it dissolve the limescale .
I've also wrapped rags soaked in vinegar around taps .
And finally, I add it to my wash to soften the fabric .

I was descaling the kettle in the staff kitchen at work using the vinegar method.
When I was out of the room for a
moment, in came a member of staff, made herself a cup of tea
using the hot water in the kettle.
You can imagine her reaction.

Toothpaste makes chrome taps etc sparkle. Just rub some on, leave for about 10 minutes and rinse off - shiny taps.

My DH used it to polish out a scratch on my wing when some careless parker left some paint on it

Mu Mum used to cut up old pairs of pants for dusters - clean ones of course! I use old tea towels to dry off my motorcycle after washing it.
Apparently toothpaste is also good to clear car headlights which have gone cloudy.
I use my old dog's food dish to leave in the garden for drinking water for wildlife, (shallow and wide dish) and often see blackbirds using it as a bath, so they're good at repurposing as well!

A boat hook to open the loft hatch and pull the ladder down. The original had a stupid piece of plastic on the end which disintegrated.

I don’t know what a spagetti spoon is but guess it won’t reach to close my over-the-sink window. Stiff old sash window which needs pushing up at the top, hard.
Suggestions please which won’t risk breaking the glass.

I love boxes of metal straws and have 3 boxes =15 straws.

My Minion yellow long-handled shoe horn snapped, I've had it for years and years, so when I tried to put my soft canvas shoes on and couldn't because the back kept folding in, I put my foot in the shoe, then onto the edge of the armchair seat and used a straw like a shoe horn!

Once when he was small and I had forgotten my key I used my son to crawl into the house through the electricity box, there was just enough room for his little frame to wriggle through and open the door for me

Am I the only person who uses shower caps for their original purpose, i.e. keeping my hair dry when I shower, but don’t want to wash my hair?

smile

I use them too, who wants to wash their hair every day?

Oreo Sat 02-Aug-25 11:50:22

oreo, one of my walkin kitchen cupboards has been taken over by my O H, it's full of coffee jars with nails of different lengths screws and nuts and bolts, tools that he can't use now as he has alzheimers...

Oh that’s so sad pably15 flowers
But keep them as you may need to use some of them one day.

Another use/misuse - sugar tongs to lift teabags out of mugs of tea.

BlueBelle Sat 02-Aug-25 16:53:49

I wash my hair every day Oreo so someone does like to

After I had my cateracts done and was told not to wash my hair for a week or was it a fortnight I borrowed a pair of y grandkids goggles out of a chemistry set and it kept them completely dry

When 'serious' cleaning, the window cleaning squeegee gives a brill finish to the hob & worktop.

My son uses shower hats to cover the smoke alarm when he is sanding.

NotSpaghetti Sat 02-Aug-25 17:15:25

Me too BlueBelle - I think lots of us wash hair daily.

Allira Sat 02-Aug-25 21:39:38

Tea makes a good window cleaner (without milk and sugar!)

I use the clip on the top of my bathroom “lobby” brush, (the clip that clips it to the long handled dust pan) to put things on hangers to finish drying on the bathroom curtain rail.

Toothpaste got rid of a stain on my cherished cashmere sweater.
I use barbecue tongs to get stuff from a top cupboard and my walking stick to get items in supermarkets which always seem to put the things I want so high up they are only accessible to those a lot more than my five feet in height.

It also cleans car headlights which have gone dim.

NotSpaghetti Mon 04-Aug-25 09:02:52

How can toothpaste work on cashmere? It's a mild abrasive, surely?

sazz1 Mon 04-Aug-25 18:34:38

I use a fluffy bathroom back brush to flick down toilet rolls from the top of the bathroom cupboards. OH stores them up there. Always shut the toilet lid first
