Maybe it inspired you, made you laugh, or just hit at the right moment.

Oh friendlygingercat! I have to agree with you!
Isn't it sad, when by trying to be helpful you get bitten on the botty! I'm a lot more wary of people now!
No more Mrs Push-over! It's a case of seven- times bitten 14 times shy, alas! 🤔

Not sure I have this the right way round 'All will be well and all shall be well' Mother Julian of Norwich. I find it comforting.

The one I really dislike is 'it is what it is '.

Thank you so much.

Full version is “All shall be well: and all manner of things shall be well”.

It’s quoted by TS Eliot in the final page of his stunning poem, “The Four Quartets” which is a long redemptive poem about so many aspects of life, its knots, its paradoxes, its pain and joys, so that is how it ends.

‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ has stuck with me and I hope I do it too.

My mums was a similar version:
“Do as you would be done by”

And from my sister (a doctor)

“Do no harm”

"No good deed goes unpunished"

On several occasions in the past I did good deeds for neighbours and they all used the occasion to take advantage. One more or less turned me into her PA after I helped her with a DLA form. Next I was doing her shopping, banking and phone calls while her lazy son sat at home. Eventually I had to drop the rope.

Now I have minimal contact with the likes of neighbours and never open the door unless its a courier/postie or pre-arranged visitor.

All the world is queer, except thee and me. And even thee is a little queer.

I love this wonderful, daft quote!
Thank you for sharing this. 🙂

Not sure if these have been mentioned but;

1. Never make a permanent decision based on a temporary emotion.

2. "Hell is empty and all the devils are here"

Stop reaching for the stars and failing to see the flowers at your feet.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift = that is why it is called the present

This I like!

Or….. do unto others before they do you😁

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
- Matthew 11.28-30

This really hit me when I read it as an enquirer into Christianity 37 years ago, and I have loved it ever since. I found it true.

I've never heard of this saying before but it's great.
I might nick-it as there's often a "Snake in my paradise." AKA DH.

H L Mencken (the 'Sage of Baltimore', probably between WW1 & 2) :- "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public".

He also (in a real moment of clairvoyance) stated "On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.".

Wow! I must look up Mencken.

Give a man a fish and you give him a meal.

Teach a man to fish and with any luck, you can get rid of him for the entire weekend.

And it must follow as the night the day
Thou canst not then be false to any man"
