Entitled - The Book that Dishes the Dirt about the Yorks
(121 Posts)Andrew Lownie's book came out today. I have yet to read it but apparently Andrew and Fergie are both shown in a very unfavourable light.
I can't help feeling sorry for Beatrice and Eugenie.

I share the views of Casdon and Iam , and surely he can’t make any more public appearances such as Order of The Garter
Agreed.
But continuing the production of carefully researched books?
If we agree that he shouldn’t appear, why continue to create opportunities for people to enjoy reading about him or enjoy seeking out further dishing of the dirt?
Why not make him disappear from public or printed life and spare his daughters further embarrassment?
Unless the GBP finds enjoyment in doing that too. . .
I’ve downloaded the free sample on my kindle to see whether or not it grabs me.
The excerpts in the DM didn’t exactly make me want to rush out and buy it but some of the stuff about Sarah raised my eyebrows.

I heard Andrew Lownie interviewed by Times Radio the other day. His book is well researched and referenced. I think the implications are very serious regarding the Epstein involvement, he alleges that Russia has all the evidence on Andrew that implicates him in much more than we currently know. In the end, if that is the case, it would be better for the monarchy, and the UK, if he sees the writing on the wall now, and retires to a completely private life, rather than drip feeding taking place which will further damage the monarchy.
I quite agree. They should leave Royal Lodge too.
The chapters about finances have a huge amount of evidence and are shocking. The Maxwell / Epstein stuff, though lots more than I knew before, did not surprise me as much.
It will be interesting to see how people react when they see the evidence. I have listened to 7 out of 11 hours now!
Well, I’m 21st on my library list for this book.
Looking forward to reading it.

I didn't read 'Spare' and I shan't read 'Entitled' either. There are far more interesting and worthwhile books to read! I do watch RF television interviews though, no matter how cringeworthy they are and they are mostly cringeworthy.
I heard the interview as well and share your views Casdon

The monarchy had to change , because of the late queens long
reign it has been stuck in the past . There has been honourable people and far less so in the royal families , recently causing whispers , this book may stop any further less honourable actions in the future
Esmay surely Andrew brought the “going through hell” for his family himself, so tragic
Absolutely how can anyone feel sorry for A and F ghastly people IMO

What is the point in writing such a book? It is nasty, spiteful and unkind and totally unnecessary. Over the years, the News has amply covered the indiscretions of not just The Yorks but other notable people. What pleasure does the author get from rubbing salt into the already open wounds of that family? And remember, they are a family, with children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
I think that some of the posters seem to forget that.
I totally agree, dalrymple. I think Andrew has suffered enough, having been already publicly humiliated. Eugenie and Beatrice come over as very nice women, and I’ve always found it endearing they seem so fond of their parents and have stuck up for them through everything. They don’t deserve this muck raking which is bound to affect them badly.
I am genuinely shocked by what I am reading, but I will wait to discuss the book with someone who has also read it. There isn't much point otherwise, is there?
We most certainly did not know it all.

The late Queen must have thought highly of Sarah Ferguson as she gifted her dogs to SF on her death.
Or Andrew , I do do not believe Sarah , after the Queens death she gave yet another interview

Sarah Ferguson, Fergie on Queen Elizabeth and the Corgis
Following Queen Elizabeth II's death in 2022, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, inherited the Queen's two corgis, Muick and Sandy. The Duchess has spoken about how she feels the Queen communicates with her through the dogs. She has described how the corgis, who live with her at Royal Lodge, Windsor, make her feel like the late Queen is still around, especially when they bark at seemingly nothing.
And another
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Duchess of York, 65, revealed the touching last words the late monarch said to her ahead of her death, aged 96, in September 2022.
"Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough,” Ferguson said the Queen — whom she called, “Mumma" — said to her before she died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
“She knew me all my life and she loved me,” she added in an interview published in U.K. newspaper The Times.
Ferguson, who was married to Prince Andrew between 1986 and 1996, added that despite their lifelong connection she was still always “nervous” about meeting with Queen Elizabeth.

i didn't read "spare" and i won't read this book either.
these books were written to make money and i won't contribute to muck-raking.
the past is in the past and no good will be done by re-hashing it.

It looks as if this Dutch company swerved a bullet.
Just when he thought his ( and hers) money troubles were over.

How on earth can they have "money troubles"
It's madness.

Mostly based on interviews from (friends) no proof should wait till they have passed ....

I thought the Queen Mother left millions to her GC.
I seem to remember Harry was due to receive millions on his 40th birthday from her.
I’d imagine she would have created an untouchable trust fund for them, and then went on her merry way running up a giant overdraft at Coutts!
Hopefully Sarah will stop her tv interviews and posing for the camera , I was so angry when she many interviews of her close relationship with the late Queen after the Queen died
Not interested in either of them and would never read the book. What I have heard and seen of Andrew makes me think he's a despicable human being and the less I hear about him and his lifestyle the better.

welbeck -
Actually before I posted my opinion I looked him up and have read his reviews etc .
I'm very surprised that such an erudite scholar should write such a book .
Erudite doesn’t mean well off.
There are all sorts of reasons for dishing the dirt books, however carefully researched. Money is the main one, and satisfying public curiosity is another.

Another muck raking publication .
I feel sorry for Beatrice and Eugenie and I also feel sorry for their parents as it's hard to refute all the allegations .Have you read any of the reviews or seen interviews with the author.
He is a serious historian. Cambridge graduate.
And thoroughly researches everything he does.
As this was the first book on living people that he has written he had to be even more careful to support everything with evidence.
He is also a monarchist and feels the behaviour esp of Andrew Windsor endangers the credibility and future of the monarchy.
Andrew Window was a trade envoy for the UK and undermined the interests of the UK during that role as well as squeezing every financial and hedonistic advantage from it.
Thanks welbeck. I watched a tv interview with the author and was impressed. prince A and Sarah F remain well suited.
This seems to be a book that can be used as a serious review of the negative impact Andrew has on the Royal Family.
I agree with GrannyGravy in believing William and Catherine are leading the RF in a less entitled approach to the advantages that come with their roles. They also appear to be much more emotionally and practically involved parents than many key members of the RF have been
