What has happened to Schweppes tonic water, where’s the damn fizz gone, been buying these for ever, so expensive, but hey ho, £5 now for box of mini cans, to be honest, they’re now flat as a fart!
So tell me you gin lovers, what’s your fave tonic, I’m looking for non flavoured, just want a decent fizz that hits ne in the back of the throat……

I love Fevertree Mediterranean but Lidl is just as good & an unbelievable 3rd of the price

Yes Aldi for me too, much better flavour. I found Schweppes overly sweet.

As a young woman, I worked for Sch, you know who. Not a fan of G and T but if in need of a change from vodka and coke, Fevertree range is great, especially the blood orange.

For Menopausel . . . .and "it's also full of sweeteners" . . . .erm, WHAT IS?!

And for Bluesmum . . . ."alcohol free gin", well, whoever dreamed that up?! IsNibs once let me try an alcohol-free beer, and after that I won't be rushing to try more alcohol with the alcohol removed?!

As for the tonic, I've gradually had to swerve anything fizzy for a few years now, as the digestive system plumbing just cannot cope. My innards start to sound like the pipes in an old hotel when the boiler starts the heating going?

Thanks for all your suggestions, have tried several, still some to go, but fever tree is the best so far😀

I recently attended a talk by a gin manufacturer, and a member of the audience asked if they could recommend a tonic water that complemented it the best. The reply was Fever tree.

M&S's own brand is my favourite but Fever Tree is also good and seems to be in most supermarkets now. I prefer plain tonic or elderflower but I'm not keen on the fruity flavours.

Katekeeprunning Mon 18-Aug-25 18:10:50

The Elderflower one in Lidl is lovely (glass bottle)

I buy Tesco’s own. Seems fizzy to me.

Greyduster Mon 18-Aug-25 16:21:31

I like Fever Tree or Fentimans in gin, but I drink a lot of tonic water on its own and find that it always seems to have a bit more fizz when it’s not added to gin than when it is. Just an observation.

Dempie55 Mon 18-Aug-25 15:57:48

Buy a Sodastream machine and make your own. Fizz as you go! Much cheaper and greener.

Quizzer Mon 18-Aug-25 14:20:11

I used to test tonic water in the Schweppes lab. It always had a relatively low carbonation (fizz) compared to other drinks. I doubt this has changed, but it might seem flat compared to other brands. Personally I like less ‘fizz’.

Jeanieallergy21 Mon 18-Aug-25 14:16:40

Fever tree is the only one I've found that doesn't have artificial sweeteners.

Bluesmum Mon 18-Aug-25 14:04:15

I was a huge Fevertree fan for years before I discovered Aldi Tonic, which is absolutely the best! I don’t drink alcohol anymore, but I do love alcohol free Gordon’s gin with Aldi tonic, just a superb, lovely summer drink xxx

AuntieE Mon 18-Aug-25 13:57:09

I have just bought a whole case of Schewpes tonic water in cans.

It is just as fizzy as ever, so perhaps the solution is cans, not bottles.

merlotgran Mon 18-Aug-25 13:55:31

Poppyred

I like the Aldi one. Can’t tell the difference between that and fevertree, so a win, win. Also can’t tell, the difference between Aldi gin and Gordon’s. 😃

I’ll drink to that!! 😂

Astitchintime Mon 18-Aug-25 13:52:44

I have a soda stream and tonic ‘additive’ so I can make tonic water as fizzy as I wish……….and far less waste going into the recycling.

knspol Mon 18-Aug-25 13:51:16

Fever tree every time.

Menopauselbitch Mon 18-Aug-25 13:47:47

It’s also full of sweeteners which taste foul.

I like fever tree. Husband said it helps with his cramp.

Nordic Mist with a couple of cardamom pods: Devine.

😂

The blurb states 'the mist is lovingly gathered on early autumn mornings in the remote Scandinavian countryside, in a symbiotic relationship with cardamom pods, gathered by hand from the warm moist forests of India. Specially selected for you to enjoy with your favourite gin'.

It was after researching it that I found the blurb and said ^thats the one for me^😂

😁

I like Fevertree too. I have tried London Essence and M&S own brand but I didn't like them as much.

Magenta8 Sun 17-Aug-25 12:44:41

Tesco, Waitrose and Marks and Spencer (available online via Ocado) have their own brand TW. Never tried any but might be worth a go. Not sure that Sainsbury's do.

Floradora9 Sun 17-Aug-25 12:35:07

Price has gone up because of inflation I read . I used to buy a pack for £4 now it is £6 . We like Schwepes so stick with it . I read that the chain B & M have it for £4 so off to find it on Monday .
