Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12° . However, we are expecting it to be 23° , better than yesterday's 26°.

I had a particularly gentle day, just faffing about and doing very little.
I pottered about the garden, it is my happy place. Thinking back to my childhood, living in a tenement, sharing a stairhead toilet with ten other people and a filthy backyard, I felt so blessed to have such a beautiful garden and home.

One thing I did do, was do a cull in a particular cupboard, where I keep tins etc. It has been annoying me for ages, but I just couldn't find the energy to tidy it.
How many packets of pepper sauce (all in date) does a person need? I thought I had none for DH's steak! 🤣

I even stopped myself watching live stream and spying on the doings at church, otherwise I would have seen things, which needed addressed and irritated me.

After days of nagging asking, DH put my terracota thermometer back on the wall, after much eye rolling, he fixed it. It was working when I left him, but is now stuck at 50° , it wasn't that hot yesterday! 🤣
He is solo golfing today , for the first time in months, due to his golfing partner being seriously ill. Despite a bone marrow transplant being planned, he still hasn't had it.
I will check the thermometer, while he is out. Then he won't take the huff be offended. wink
I hope he come back in a better humour, he seems to be permanently grumpy and negative recently. 😪
I, of course am perfect!

Today is another gentle day for me. I only have one task to do and that is buy washing up liquid for the sacristy. It being used at an alarming rate (even the spares have disappeared) and energy drinks for the first First Aid boxes in church and the parish Hall. I did a check on Saturday and they are just in date.
How to get them is a probem. The main road has been shut for two weeks and has still not opened again, although it should have been completed on Friday.
The traffic chaos is so frustrating.

I have attached some photos of my happy place. The revamp is not quite finished, but we are getting there!

Have a good day folks and best wishes to all, who are poorly.

Good morning everyone from an overcast and very.cloudy Northampton; not much sun expected today.

Yesterday was lovely, lots of sun, not too hot and a pleasant breeze. I spent an hour or so digging out a dead hydrangea - a friend has promised me a yellow buddleia, so that will fill the space. I am aching from my efforts this morning, as it did not want to come out!

Then had a shower, made a a nice cold drink and sat under the pergola with the weekend newspapers. Had two loads of washing to hang out, which I must get in this morning before I go to yoga.

No real plans for the rest of the day after yoga and coffee apart from clean the bathrooms; this afternoon I will probably get stuck into my new book, another tale of Ancient Greece, 'Medea'.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning, cloudy and warm today, all day

A routine day yesterday but I set to and prepped lots of veg to make 4 meals. The remaining three will keep well in the fridge as they are only veg.

Pottering is a good word for yesterday, including me trying to trace the source of a musty smell in my en suite. The only area I had not refreshed was the cistern so I put a few ml of hydrogen peroxide in that and left it soak a few hours. I don`t know if it will work, the cistern looked very clean anyway but musty smells can arise anywhere where there are drains, especially during a long hot summer. I did clean all the drains with soda last week, no smell before that

I decided that I must tackle my knitting UFOs, I am part way through a sock for ds and started the second sock to take to craft group today, It will be easier if I turn heels one after the other. The 6 ply regia yarn is gorgeous and so soft to use. My needles are just 9 inches long circulars, I had one and made another from my chiaogoo interchangeable set. I will use 3mm dpns for the heel turning and I have a sock ruler to help with sizing.

I am thinking I will plough through my sock wool stash, everyone will get socks for presents and it is easier if I am on a roll

Before bed last night, I pulled out all my bags and don`t need them all, most have not been used for years. Most are going to go, to the cs but slowly as I have not the heart to ditch them all at once. I do like releasing space here and there but don`t want to be too impulsive

I balled yarn from a 500g cone of frangipani yarn yesterday, used my lykke ball winder. I got concerned about the soft balls being floppy in use so put a mesh around each one to hold together. I ordered some bottle covers but found some mesh I had for holding thread on cones. Perfect. No way could I have carried a cone about with me. I am waiting for my seeknit needles before I make the full size tension swatch, I cannot be getting the tension wrong as I will have over 370 stitches in the round

Today, just a bit of cleaning, the floors need washing and then I have crafting group and a bit of reading to start beforehand. One member gave me a book, local history, small close writing. I want to be able to say I have started it, she is 90 and is trying her best to give stuff away. She has the brightest mind and is so kind and wise

Have a good day and FGT know that you are supported

Good morning from W Kent where it has rained overnight with more to come by the look of it. My lovely cleaner is due this morning to give the bathrooms a going over.
Had a FaceTime with DD1 who gave me the full story of DGS4 and his appendix, it seems he will be in hospital for a while partly due to being Type1 diabetic. She said the nurses were wonderful with him. At 22 he is by far the youngest on the ward
Not sure about the rest of the day
Best wishes to all

Good morning Mick and all from a brightening northwest coast. I’m off to the Isle of Man this morning on the steam packet as a foot passenger. Just a few days and looking forward to it. Many happy memories of family holidays there over the years. Bittersweet as my late DH spent some time there every year since boyhood and I was at first a reluctant visitor. It meant spending time with my strong minded MIL and rather compulsory, like Diana having to go to Balmoral😁 But grew to really love the island (but not Douglas).

So sandwiches made etc. and off I go.
Thinking of FGTs and all🌺🚢⚓️🛟

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

Our cleaner should be here today. She’s been away on holiday. I have my usual Monday Waitrose shop.

I also have a diabetes prevention meeting which my GP suggested I attend. The first meeting was a few weeks ago. Basically we go through what we eat and the amount.

I will be keeping my eye on the meeting at the White House with President Zelensky and his band of brothers and sisters! Dangerous and important times.

I am thinking of MaryD and the FGT2S.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still grey cooler monday here in North Yorkshire. I am two very different people this morning. Mentally fine, and had a very lovely visit to a more local garden in good weather yesterday, but physically really struggling.

My flipping cut on my foot has caused quite a lot of other problems and because I either have to walk on the bad bit and it then starts bleeding again, or try and hobble keeping that bit off the ground, which then means I am not walking properly, so more pain from back and legs and generally wretched aches and pains , which then means that I am struggling to sleep etc. Frustation levels very high and made worse by the fact that it is my own fault, not wearing slippers . Once it heals up properly I shall have a reminder to regretfully not walk anywhere barefoot.

Well yesterday struggling to get going etc, but went to visit this lovely garden in aid of the local hospice. Very well set up and organised but unfortunately no disabled parking , and that meant I had a real struggle to walk from the carpark etc. However it was worth it and it was a lovely place with a walled garden and vegetable garden, orchard etc etc. Really worth going round, the dahlias growing for cut flowers in the house were magnificent and all doing very well. Great herbaceaous borders and a gloriously beautiful creamy yellow tree peony that took your breath away. The only bit that was slightly sad was to see how autumnal the garden was, and I am still being like a child and not looking to see how near we are to autumn, as I want the summer to keep going. But the weather we have been having and the fact that the evenings are getting darker earlier cannot be ignored now. I have seen people out getting blackberries and havent even thought of getting any yet , dont think I shall do well this year for blackberry and apple crumble.

So today we have The Good, The Bad and The Ugly getting together. Zelensky of course is the good, with at last a group of people who should have been supporting him visibly before being there too and then the Bad and Ugly with Trump and Putin. Well the adjectives apply to both !! Trump wants to portray himself as some sort of go between, but you can only have a go between who is fair and treating each side as equal, not someone who wants to take other peoples land and dish it out to his equally appalling friends. They make me sick. I only wish I could do anything that would make a difference, but of course have no way of doing anything. So I shall avoid all news until there is something that tells us what is going to happen. I cannot stand endless waffle on the news that this or that is or may be happening. It isnt news, just filling up the space like gossiping neighbours. I intend to try and do something more productive with my time.

Well actually dont know if I can do much, - apart from get my secateurs out and deadhead the buddlia to encourage more flowers. Each snip I make I will of course be thinking of other heads I would like to remove!! That is about the best I can do outside apart from watering my plants early. There is no chance of bending down or planting stuff today, and I am going to have to try and keep my legs up, as they are both swollen and a bit red. dont want to start with the wretched cellulitis again! Bah humbug!

Actually I am going to ring Harlow Carr the rhs garden in Harrogate to see if I can book a tramper buggy today. I usually avoid the garden in the holidays when it is very busy, but have seen a lovely picture of the sunflowers etc that look lovely, and as I cant walk round anywhere today, if I can book a buggy, then I can drive round and be able to enjoy the garden. However not holding out much hope, so it may be a day of just doing what I can manage here. I have had a hectic week for going out and about and bought a lot of fuel, but making my picnics has meant I havent spent a lot once I am out. The prices of everything is going up so high, I dont know how people afford to go to a cafe now. One good thing is that I am not meant to eat cake being diabetic. Occasionally I am tempted if I have a coffee somewhere but with cakes now costing over £5 and the portions smaller it keeps me on the straight and narrow!

Very good to hear you are getting back to your routine Mick but please take it easy for a while. RoseandLilac you put me to shame, such industry and you now have the clean and tidy things to look at . well done you.grandMattie how satisfying to have things back in their correct place. I used to have a lovely victoria plum tree in my garden and used to have a freezer full and jam too and be able to give some to friends. Miss it now, but not going to make any jam as on my own but might think of a treat of a crumble at the weekend , but shall have to BUY some plums for that, not done that for years! Greyduster , Hope you find some sloes soon. My car is dirty, but have cleaned off the number plates, but I am leaving it dirty as it is saving me the effort and also as we need to conserve water I am able to appear to be not doing it for a good reason and not because I cant make the effort!!

Well wishing you all a good day and hopefully a bit of a downpour tonight to help the gardens.

Good morning all from a chilly and cloudy North Leicestershire.

We had a lovely day yesterday but still have lots of clearing up to do.

Thinking of all with worries and sadness today.

Redcar Mon 18-Aug-25 07:02:14

Good morning from mid Essex, where it’s dry and grey. It felt warm when I opened the porch door. Yesterday was a beautiful day, clear blue sky and sunshine with a pleasant breeze. I went for my usual walk, met up with dog walking friends, then had a coffee and a long chat with a friend whose house backs onto the recreation ground. My usual 20 minute walk took two hours!
I’m planning on a drive into town this morning to get a few things, then back to gardening!

I hope the exercise class takes place today ashcombe. grandmabatty I hope your replacement bank card arrives soon, it’s so inconvenient without one isn’t it!

Thinking of the fgts and md and all others who are struggling in any way.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cool and cloudy start here.

It became very warm yesterday. I drove my Italian Helper around the countryside to visit an ancient church which she had seen in a painting in the National Gallery of Scotland. She wasn't disappointed. It was open too for us to look around.

Today I shall go on the U3A walk. Its just over 6 miles but mostly flat.

Enjoy preparing for your DD's visit

Thinking of you FGT and all who are fearful today.

Ashcombe Mon 18-Aug-25 06:38:42

Good morning from a breezy, overcast Torbay where it’s still too warm overnight even with the window open.

New cleaner starts today - someone from my church whom I think will be more reliable than the last one. She would turn up late, leave early and was very “through other” as my late dear Mum would say!

Back to my exercise class which I turned up for last week only to find an empty car park as it had been cancelled! I’d been away for a month so missed the announcement.

Thinking of those who have worries of any kind. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good Morning from MS. DH has an early start - the birds' beach-nesting season is now over, so he's helping to clear the areas' protective barriers away, before the temperature starts to climb. I'll keep busy in my studio, plus do a quick swoop of garden tidying.
I hope everyones' day goes well! Sending a gentle hug to FGT & her DH.

Morning Mick, morning All. A slightly less hot, sunny day forecast for our corner of Somerset. It’s cooling down this week.

We worked in the garden all morning yesterday, Mr C retired with a sore foot and I retired to some photo sorting. Ironing and such joys for me this morning, not sure what else. Mr C has new security lights to play with and some edging he says will go in easily, oh dear, not in rock hard ground I fear. The plants are beginning to look very sad indeed.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Bellasnana Mon 18-Aug-25 06:00:32

Good morning from Malta where a high of 35°C is forecast with a chance of thundery showers.

I finally managed to give the spare room a good ‘bottoming’ yesterday so it is now fit for DD1 who arrives on Thursday from Washington, DC with her little dog Bertie.

I’m looking forward to seeing her as it’s been a year since she visited and I haven’t felt able to go over to visit her.

Today I hope to finish the rest of my list of jobs but will see how it goes. Not much point doing windows if it’s going to rain but often these predicted showers miss us completely being a small island.

FGT you and Himself are very much on my mind. Waiting for results is enough to drive you mad. ‘One day at a time’ was my mantra when going through similar times, but it is not easy to stop your mind wandering off. 💐

Hope today is kind to us all.☀️

Greyduster Mon 18-Aug-25 05:48:43

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s going to be a grey, cool South Yorkshire day. Yesterday I had a walk through the lanes to see if the sloes were ripe. They weren’t, but I managed to find about a pound and a half of very good blackberries still hanging on so that was a bonus. Spent most of the day just pottering about. Had a long telephone conversation with a friend in the evening. It amazes me that we always have so much to talk about.
This morning I will wash my car, and this afternoon the chiropodist is coming, and I must pick up my medication from the pharmacy.
Have the best day you can, folks.

grandMattie Mon 18-Aug-25 05:44:38

Good morning from Bristol. How we need rain! Everything is brown, crisp and sere. It would be nice to have some green again.
Yesterday was unexpected. At midday, SiL came to push my washing machine back into its slot; all it needed was some brawn. He invited me to lunch. I went back with him and saw the family for the first time in nearly a month.
I didn’t stay too long and had a quiet afternoon. I’m very tired at the moment, I think it’s the heat.
Today, I have marrow chutney to make + High Dumpsie Dearie (love the name) jam to make. It’s apple, pear and plum jam. DD’s trees have produced a lot of the former and I’ll get some plums from Tesco when I go shopping this morning. Busy again…
Hope everyone has a goos start to the week, thinking especially of the FGTs and MD. Hugs all round.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and still grey.
Yesterday I got the ironing done and put the books and cds back in their alloted places. I washed my bedroom curtains too and hung them out. I also put petrol in the car courtesy of Dsil. Dinner was another salad.
Today is early childcare day. I'll drop off the boys at school/nursery then head home for a couple of hours. I'll go back to the library early afternoon and work til I need to pick up the boys. Salad again tonight. Have a good day all

harrigran Mon 18-Aug-25 05:37:48

Good morning Mick and all who follow. Still dark here in the NE.
I didn't sleep well, at one point I woke myself up screaming.
Quiet day yesterday, read magazines and heard from family. DD had a wonderful weekend at the Proms and DS returned from Berlin. GD enjoyed the musical instrument museum and DS sent a video of her playing a street piano.
Thoughts are with FGTs.

RosesandLilac Mon 18-Aug-25 05:36:57

Good morning from south Glos, I’m hoping this week is cooler.
We had a lovely dog walk yesterday, the early morning sun was lighting up the golden stubble fields and it was pleasantly cool for once. All very peaceful.
W
I spent an hour sorting out the freezer and fridge, threw out a number of unrecognisable frozen packages so I now know what I actually have!
The awning is now up on the Shed, it made a noticeable difference to the temperature in there during the afternoon, hooray!
Today I must tackle the ironing, repackage some things to return and go to the post office.
Wishing everyone a good day 🌹
