I use my parents glass bowl given to them as a wedding gift in 1943, suspect it was a trifle bowl but Mum didn’t like trifle. It does the job nicely and is much admired as it’s different. A granddaughter wants it when we’ve no further use for it.

I think mine is similar- it has a silver trim and should be on three glass legs but one chipped off!

I store apples, bananas, oranges, kiwi and nuts and seeds in it.

My fruit bowl is a glass one, presented to me when I retired, engraved with the school crest and dates. It is nice to use it. It holds just enough for a day or two.

I have a very special fruit dish which is just the right size and shape for a few apples,a pear and tangerines. It was made by my son over 30yr ago when he was at college. Bananas go on a chrome tree and all soft fruit in the fridge ( if it lasts that long) I eat a lot of fruit to help avoid toffees and puddings.

I use this long dish. The fruit can be more spread out, instead of ‘ piled up ‘.

We have a beautiful fruit bowl we bought 35+ years ago.
I had a job interview in a gift shop and I was asked to sell her an imaginary bowl of fruit. I interpreted this as “sell me the fruit bowl, like the ones on the shop floor”. I waxed lyrical on Highland Stoneware, and got the job!

I feel as if I’ve just tempted Fate with my last sentence…

We eat loads of fruit. Most of it - apples, pears, oranges, kiwis etc - is in a four tier veg rack, bananas in the bowl of my old weighing scales, peaches, plums, grapes, berries, cherries in separate Denby shallow pasta dishes and a couple of pretty ones we’ve brought back from holidays. Just melon in the fridge - the rest of it’s rarely around long enough to need it, and I much prefer fruit at room temperature. Though I have just recently discovered the delights of a frozen grape.

We’ve never had fruit flies.

I have one in kitchen and 2 shallow ones in dining room. Keep berries in fridge

I use a Poole pottery painted charger made in the 1960s. Large and flat so holds a lot of fruit. Lots for sale on eBay and the like.

I had a lovely IKEA stainless steel bowl, made of flower shapes where I kept the “top” fruit, apples bananas, oranges, etc. rasp/strawberries are eaten within 24 hours, melons as fast as possible. I don’t like icy cold fruit so keep it out of the fridge.

I might try that! My fruit wouldn’t become crushed and hidden like it usually does. Good idea 👍

Bananas apparently keep longer if you wash them.

I only wash fruit as we eat it and don't usually have a banana problem so I haven't tried it.

I think you need something huge but shallow - maybe something like this

I have three that are about this size which I choose from and it means you don't need to pile things up. They do take up a lot of space though.

We also use a lot of oranges, so when I have a delivery I tend to keep those apart in another big bowl.

I don't keep fruit in the fridge unless I've gone a bit mad with the shopping!

How do you manage with the problem of fruit flies? We have a lovely fruit bowl but have to keep all of the fruit in the fridge or the kitchen is soon seething with them. They seem immune to fly spray too. I am convinced that in the event of a nuclear holocaust, there would be clouds of fruit flies completely untouched!

My Daughter in law had a problem with these. They used some citronella candles in the room and it seemed to get rid of them.

Mine is from Amazon and has a banana hook above it to keep them separate. Mine is plenty big enough. I'm in UK

We have a large wide Portmeirion dish for a fruitbowl, you can get a lot in it with air all around each fruit.

Only have fruit that needs a bit of ripening in a bowl and enough for a couple of days. Bananas on a hook. If I have strawberries they are kept out of fridge during the day as I don't enjoy them chilled.

I have a very large Italian pottery bowl on a kitchen work surface that has all sorts in it; ripening avocados and peppers aubergines, lemons, grapefruit, tomatoes and nectarines at the moment with a small pottery bowl with holes in for grapes. In the lounge a smaller one with apples, oranges and tangerines. I keep soft fruit in the fridge. We eat a lot of fruit in this house!

usually a wooden bowl or glass bowl in our house but things like bananas and grapes were a luxury so it was mainly just oranges and apples. There were always big Jaffa oranges never small tangerines they seem to appear later and some were wrapped in paper, getting a tangerine in paper seemed to be like winning the lottery in our family! The apples were bought in a big box and kept chilled over winter just putting out the few in the fruit bowl I like fruit bowls the smell from them is really nice
