DD bought me some peonies a few weeks ago and they had the most awful smell. They looked so pretty, but smelt dreadful. We were so disappointed.

My favourite flowers of all are tulips. They droop so elegantly!

I love the droop too ( only with flowers😁) especially tulips, DP always wants to chuck them at that pointđŸ˜Č

I adore flowers and get them from my family for lots of occasions.
I think if you give flowers to others, especially a large bouquet, you have to bear in mind that a) they may not have a big enough vase and b) they may not know how to arrange them. In those cases, a big bouquet wouldn’t be a very nice gift as it would be a worry! I am ok because my late mother-in-law demonstrated flower arranging at the WI and she taught me all I know.
If in doubt, you can always buy pre-arranged flowers in various containers from good florists.
Also, I am more than happy with flowers picked by my family from their gardens. Freesias and roses are favourites, but most of all, I adore Sweet Peas. My late grandmother grew them and their perfume reminds me of long Summer holidays with her and my grandfather in Wales. As long as it’s flowers or plants, bring it on!

I love pure white lilies failing that the pink ones are nice too .
Peonies are very welcome- pale pink Sarah Bernhardt are usually the ones sold in florists .
Brilliant green Anastasia Chysanthemums are wonderful .
I dislike red and white together .
I'm not fond of colour mixes unless I'm going to do a still life .
When buying flowers for other people I try to remember their colour preferences .
One of my elderly ladies loves yellow and loathes red .
Another likes red and yellow together .
One friend loves blue iris .
Soft pink is my usual safe choice .
I usually add foliage and a bow having prepared the stems .
I usually end up arranging them .

I am definitely white and green when it comes to cut flowers.

Our garden is basically all green shrubs, with some white flowers, pale lavender bushes and two pale pink shrubs.

That sounds beautiful! Have you a photo or two?

Tulips are my very favourite flowers but I love all flowers. I buy flowers every week for the kitchen.

Tulips are my favourite although only available for a short time every year

I also like peach and pink roses, peonies, and dahlias/ chrysanthemums.

I always have white and yellow flowers in the house on my small son’s birthday and anniversary . White for purity (he died as a child) and yellow as it was his favourite colour so associate it with him

Love most flowers but never want lillies because of those orange/brown stamens which stain anything they come in contact with. You have to be vigilant and remove them as they appear. You can’t remove the stain.

I grow my own flowers for the house, and often give them to other people as a gift, I definitely prefer the cottage garden look, and native UK flowers. If I received my ideal bouquet bought commercially it would probably be a mass of mixed stocks in the spring, as the smell and colours are so amazing. I also love dahlias, particularly Pompoms, ideally really dark coloured ones, the way the petals are formed is fascinating.

I don’t like yellow, in or out of the house, but I do buy a few daffodils as soon as I see any - especially after clearing away after C
..mas, as they seem to herald Spring.

I always have flowers in the house, most of the time it’s lilies or roses, either pink or white, as I’m not a fan of mixing colours. When I hang my winter curtains I’ll get chrysanthemums in autumnal bronze for a few weeks.

I'm not fond of roses in a bouquet at all...I do love peonies and protea.

Happy with any colour though!

Aquilegias are my favourite, any colour, although a mixed bunch is divine.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 19-Aug-25 13:44:59

White - I love white flowers.
I do gifts of forced hyacinths at Christmas, and I order only the white ones from a local nursery!

Now and again I receive flowers as a gift as most of us do, and also buy them for other people.I really don’t like yellow flowers in the house ( not sure why) and don’t like the highly scented sickening lilies.Nor do I like red and white mixed flowers or chrysanths.😁I should tell people in advance but never do.
My favourite bouquet would be in pink and white or orange and apricot and favourite flowers carnations and pinks, roses and stocks. What do you like or give to others?
