Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sky is a dingy white at the moment and it is 13 degrees. Yesterday I did a supermarket shop, cleared out some cupboards in the kitchen, wrote some letters and that was about it. Today, I shall make a curry for my dinner this evening and two sponge flan bases before hopefully spend some time tidying up the garden, which I have been neglecting this week. It is gradually closing itself down now. Early this year, though one of my potted roses has just decided to put out a second flush of flowers. The other one, which had to be repotted earlier in the year, is sickly and I don’t know why. I will hope for better things from it next year.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Morning Mick, morning All from a calm, bright corner of Somerset.

We did little yesterday, both tired after the active day before. The next stage of our garden project was delivered late afternoon in several very heavy boxes. A covered wooden seat which is being referred to as our bus shelter. We’ll unpack this morning and check all is there.

(A lot of) help will be needed with construction. Mr C has finally conceded he’s 82 not 42! Our granddaughters boyfriend has offered help, he’s a busy lad though, works more than full time. If the forecast is right this part of the country is due a fair bit of wind and rain from early next week. It will take as long as it takes. Maybe finished by the Spring! I will have to learn patience, never my strong suit with practical things.

There will be lunch out today, a top up shop on the way home and that’s about it.

Please rest marydoll. Thinking of you and your family kalu.

Hope Saturday is kind to us all.

Good morning all from a cloudy North Leicestershire.

Today we have to collect some specially made GF bread and then we are going to an art exhibition where a friend of DH has a painting. Then lunch out.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still ,so so day, of not grey but not sunny yet ,morning in North Yorkshire. It is Wensleydale show today so I hope it keeps fine for them, (perhaps it could rain everywhere but there!) We are in such desperate need of the rain, the fire that started last week near Fylingdales is out on the surface but is still burning in the peat below and the fire brigades are still having to be there watching for flare ups. There are no steam trips at all on the railway, disappointing many who love to both go on them and watch them pass by. Yet despite notices everywhere about the extreme dryness and asking people to have no fires of any kind and be careful with rubbish etc etc, yesterday a runner fortunately going past, had to persuade some idiots , who had got out of their car on the moor, NOT to set up a barbecue!! I dont know which is worse, that people do not think or care about anyone but themselves, or that they dont seem to be able to equate actions with consequences and despite all the notices and so forth do not understand that what they are doing is dangerous and risks death and destruction to all creatures and the moor itself, that they have come to see because it is beautiful!

Well I am creaking and crawling around this morning. a lot of pain and difficulty in getting out of bed. That has actually settled it, that I am not going to the show. No chance of being able to walk about even if I got a good disabled parking area. I am still pottering about in my dressing gown, want to get a shower but at the moment would have difficulty in even getting in so looking forward to my Bach to lift my spirits with some coffee to cheer the morning and hope I can ease up a bit.

So my revived plan for the day is if I ease up enough, I can buy the Yorkshire Post and then go off to Richmond for 10am or as near as I can manage to that as there is a Plant Sale in the church. I used to donate plants to that when I lived in Richmond myself, and know that there are some very good and keen gardeners in their church. So that is a good mix, an excuse to buy some plants, some of which will be ones that you are unlikely to see in a garden centre, catch up with the news from old friends and acquaintances serving on the stall and the money goes to a church charity, so you can feel quite virtuous about spending too much on plants when it is for agood cause! So I will be the good kind of customer you want, as I shall arrive with bags for plants, loose change, not asking for change from a £20 for a !.50 plant! They usually have tea and coffee and cakes for sale too, so once I have managed to negotiate the rather steep path and steps up to the church I shall be fine. That is the best I can think of for today, and then it will depend how creaky I am , whether I can cope with the drive up swaledale, or have to admit defeat and come home. Ah well one thing at a time, we shall see. So fingers crossed.

Good to read your plans for the day Mick, glad to see you are getting back toyour routines but if your cough doesnt improve do go back to the doctors. After your recent problems you wont have a lot to fight it with. Hope you see lots of friends today. Marydoll, I obviously missed some posts when my laptop was going haywire and am sorry to hear that you have had a fall and hope that you are now recovering well. It is part of the joy of grandchildren seeing patterns and behaviour that you recognise from your own children, and funny that they seem to have no recollection themselves of how they behaved in those long gone days, Still we can use our memories to remind us of how we coped and see it if now works on another generation!

Hope everyone can have a good day, and welcome back to the travellers. I have cheered up mentally having enjoyed my Bach, but cant see much change in my ability to move about. Will try and do a little of my yoga, especially the brathing, as I want to get myself into the routine of doing some every day, hoping it will help me both physically and mentally. what was that saying ? May we change what we can and accept what we cannot change and have the wisdom to know the difference!

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. Yesterday’s outing with DD2 and DGS5 went well it was to a NT house as I thought. DH had to sit down as we went along, some of the climbs are quite steep.
Today I hope to move a few bags to the local charity shops, otherwise a quiet day.
Kalu flowers
Best wishes

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s bright but feels cool out. I’m at DD1’s this morning, as I was looking after two of the granddaughters while their parents were at a concert last night with DD2 and her OH. Their other granny was looking after their children. No idea what time they got home last night but unusually I’m first up!
I’ll go home after breakfast and do some household chores. I’ll change the bedding & get it washed and dried, then maybe a little hacking back of unruly shrubs.

kalu thinking of you today, a day of memories for you and your family.

marydoll I hope you feel a little better today and that the bruises are less colourful and painful.
ash have a good break with your family.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Bellasnana Sat 23-Aug-25 07:19:24

Good morning from Malta where the high is forecast at 35°C, sunny and breezy.

At the moment it sounds like the Blitz with petards being let off in honour of some village festa. Not ours until 8th September.

Little dog Bertie has just trotted in asking to be let out, he’s such a dear little dog and very spritely for his thirteen years.

It’s lovely having him and DD1 here. The boys came over yesterday morning then they all went out for lunch. I declined as I was tired and just wanted to put my feet up.

Kalu these sad anniversaries are never easy but I’m glad you have your family around you to share the memories.💐

Marydoll I was so sorry to read of your upsetting experience and can only imagine how awful you must have felt. Being so unwell when you aren’t close to your own bed and bathroom is just miserable. 💐

I do hope you will feel less wobbly as the day goes on but please don’t do too much. Your body is telling you to rest.

Susan thinking of you and family as you come to terms with such a terrible tragedy.

Also thinking of Soop who is very poorly.😞

I’ve no plans for the day, will see what transpires. Hoping you all have the best day possible.☀️

Good morning from dry and cool South Lanarkshire.

Marydoll what an awful experience, I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time. I hope you manage to rest and recover.

We have DGD2 staying this weekend as she has a party to attend and the rest of her family have gone down south to watch DGD1 play netball. She has been selected for the Scotland squad for her age group, we’re delighted for her.

Last evening we watched several hot air balloons fly over our house. It was the start of the balloon festival, the only one in Scotland and a big event in our town lasting all weekend.

A poignant day Kalu. thanks

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning from cloudy s somerset

MD it will be like a car crash, you play things over and over until one day the incident will leave your brain. Going over and over will allow you to process it and then it can go into its box and stay there. Yet another turn in the road for you, you are wise and you will adapt and life will continue

All my knitting patterns are sorted, each category has its own strong cardboard ring file, lovely files too. All pastel colours and 7cm wide. Out of my direct sight but very easy to find anything now

I went upstairs to my stash, wishing I had labelled every bag with the purpose. All are safe from moths. I brought down the 6 skeins for the gilt wood shawl, my colours are pinks and grey. I wound 3 of the skeins into balls and very glad I have a winder, it still took me a long time, 4 ply yarn. I found the old order, 2018 and today the yarn would cost about 40% more. That stash was better than savings

I will not need to do a swatch and will re-wrap the yarn, ready and handy for a winter project. I am still working on pig, got to stuff it today and will finish her jumper and skirt. The mouche book can soon go back on the bookshelf

I am hoping that my size 2.25 circulars come today, I need to do another swatch for gansey, the first one had too few stitches in 4" and 2.5. Circular swatches need to be made very differently as it is all knit stitches

Today, the roads will be busy with holiday traffic, and it would be sensible not to go cycling. A walk will do me fine

I will finish that UFO today and perhaps turn heels on socks

Have a good day

Thinking of you, Kalu and admiring your uplifting sentiment. 💐

Good morning from an overcast but warm corner of Staffordshire where I arrived safely yesterday afternoon.

The train was packed, even in First Class. I sat with three other single passengers, one of whom had been a prison officer so she had some tales to tell. She now lives near my home in Babbacombe! Another lady had been to see The Good Life at our theatre and the last three summer productions!

The train was running late from the outset, having arrived late into Paignton from where it started its journey. Passenger Assistance worked well at Torquay and Stafford although the poor man who helped me on the train was rather more lame than me! I’m concerned about my homeward journey on Tuesday as some Cross Country staff are on strike on Saturday and Monday which could mean trains will be in the wrong place. 🙄 Sigh!

What a horrid experience, Marydoll; rest up today and I’m sure the church can take care of itself for once.

How lovely to be sharing your gardening expertise with the schoolchildren, RosesandLilac!

Happy weekend, everyone! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Good morning from a cloudy, oppressive sky in Glasgow with a chance of rain this evening.

Today marks the 1st anniversary of DH’s death. Time has flown by with a year of adjustments and steep learning curves into into a different life without him. With DD1 and both GDs we have planned to go out for lunch to mark the day……don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened will be our purpose as we remember him.

Best wishes to all for a good day and hopefully some respite for those with worries and struggles through difficult times.

Marydoll so sorry to hear of your fall and your other ailments please get well soon, hugs to you and yours from your friend in Fife 💐💐

Bore Da Mick and everyone, from a nearly light, bright Carmarthenshire.
Hope you had a wonderful holiday Pantglas though a bit of hiraeth I suspect.
We are up your way the end of September.
Bit of gardening today and two flower boxes to paint.
Have a gentle day everyone

Good morning everyone from a cold start to the day here on the east coast of Fife. The weathers all over the place at the moment. I was basking in the sun 2 weeks ago and I feel cold today . I’m so looking forward to the weekend, my family are coming to stay for a couple of nights and it’ll be fun.

Enjoy the weekend as best you can and keep safe

RosesandLilac Sat 23-Aug-25 06:16:45

Good morning, there’s a pale pink tinge to the sky here on my hillside in south Glos as the sun rises.
I started another painting yesterday, I’m using Kuretake Tambi paints, they’re Japanese and a bit like a watercolour/gouache mix. They’re usually used for calligraphy as well as art, very opaque but not as chalky as gouache paints.
I potted up 21 strawberry runners yesterday for the school garden, most should take ok I think, I will find out what else they’d like as I have other bits and pieces they’re welcome to.
A quiet weekend for me, just pottering and pootling around.
Hugs to all who need them 🌹

Marydoll Sat 23-Aug-25 06:15:45

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 11°C and still dark.
I've not had a good night, so DH 💗 has brought me a cuppa.

I was overwhelmed by your kind posts and PMs yesterday.
I am still very wobbly, extremely tired and am covered in bruises from, what DH says, was my graceful, but dramatic fall.
Thankfully, I remember nothing of it.

DH took me for my fourth session of microsuction yesterday, (I was determined to go) which once again was not very successful.
One more attempt next week and then it's a phone call for a GP appointment.
I suspect I will be deaf in that ear for ever, for I doubt I will get an appointment, without a fight.😉

Last night DS2, DIL visited and brought fish suppers as a treat. I was grateful, but hardly ate anything.
Babydoll had fallen asleep in the car and was not a happy bunny, when she wa wakened.
She wanted no-one but her mummy. She is a funny wee thing, with her odd ways and fixed routines, so like her daddy.
DS had no idea, why I burst out laughing, when he said BabyD has to do everything in a certain way and will not deviate from that routine. The health visitor noted that she was an Einstein rather bright. 🤣
He was that child.

I will have a very quiet day, I felt worse yesterday than Thursday, I expect that is normal.
No doubt I will have visitors, and yet another lecture, DD is very upset at what has happened.
We laughed at the irony of her training day yesterday, it was on handling bereavement. Too close to home for her and me..😉
I was sure I was going meet my Maker on Wednesday.

I couldn't concentrate yesterday on the posts, but I think congratulations are in order for a number of grandchildren. Well done!

Susan, I hope you are feeling a bit better.

GM, please show as a photo of your quilt, when it is finished. I envy your talent.

Have the best day possible and love to all with sorrow and ill health in their lives., x

Pantglas2 Sat 23-Aug-25 06:03:39

Good morning Mick, grandMattie and all to come from dear old Blighty (well the north Wales coast of it anyway…😂) where PG Towers is always the best place to be regardless of where I roam!

A longer trek home from Dover due to BH traffic but we’re bunkered in until Tuesday as I appear to have enough provisions apart from salad which we can survive without - you’ll hear Mr PG whooping with joy on that score🥳

How very sad to read of Susan’s young niece 💐 but hope you’re on the mend physically and not overdoing things x. Miss Marydolls experience is beyond words…and I’m the sort to re-run that sort of trauma like a video 😱 the positive take is that folks are so very kind and a ⭐ for Mr MD!

I shall now enjoy my ☕️ under the trees before trotting for a newspaper and enjoying a quiet weekend 🤞 May you all have a good one too x

Sar53 Sat 23-Aug-25 05:52:34

Good morning from the Essex coast.
I arrived home at about 10 last night after the flight was delayed by over an hour.
DH and his friend will set off sometime this morning and hopefully I will see them either tomorrow or Monday. Fingers crossed 🤞 all goes well.
Firstly today I need to go food shopping and then make a start on club admin which will have built up whilst I was away.
Wishing you all a good weekend, best wishes to all xx

grandMattie Sat 23-Aug-25 05:32:01

Good morning from a dark, dry Bristol.

Nothing much to report. I’m on the home straight with the strip patchwork quilt. I think it’s very garish but others think it’s colourful. DGS’s is also coming on but will take me ages.

It’s my turn to clean my bit of the church so I’ll do that this morning and reward myself with an hour’s chatting and coffee.

I hope MD is feeling less wobbly today, that things are not so difficult fo4 those with mountains to climb.

Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
