Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still grey day in North Yorkshire. I hope that this post gets through and have fingers crossed. Yesterday read the posts, added my missive and pressed enter to add to the list and the flipping thing disappeared into the ether again. Was so mad and had to go out so no time to repeat. Fingers crossed that I have a better start today. I am planning a domestic day today to catch up and sort out some of the chaos.
I was invited out to go to the eden camp on sunday, and as I normally stay at home on sunday, doing jobs and listening to my favourite programmes on the radio, it meant a total change of routine. But that is at least one thing you can do living on your own, just alter plans easily. So we had a very pleasant day out and got to the coast and waited until the traffic had died down before we drove back. That had been a long day and although I had really enjoyed it of course, I had to pay for my pleasures with my back giving me no rest and little sleep etc. So although it was Reeth show on yesterday, I decided discretion was the better part of valour, and took things steadily but went off to a little village show in Snape, not very far from here. The weather was lovely, which I was glad for them as a lot of effort is put in by many people and it is disappointing if they do not get many visitors . So for me a great afternoon there. They had teas in the village hall, an exhibiton of textiles and sewing things, and a second hand book sale which of course I had to rummage through. There was a band playing and when they were having a rest a dj put on a selection of music and not too loud. So was able to sing along with Dolly Parton and folk singers etc etc. There were chairs out on the green and a display of one or two vintage tractors including a little grey fergie, and a couple of highly polished vintage cars. So it was a pleasant afternoon, with little traffic and a lovely run back home through the countryside. Too weary to do much when I got home but did go out and water the plants and the borders, in the hopes that today my back may let me put a few plants in the ground today. We shall sea.
i had beed at Thirsk before going to Snape and called in at the St Teresa Hospice shop which was open. I have a big dresser type thing that was left here when I moved in, and it has been useful, as had even a green baize cutlery drawer etc etc, but I had come to the conclusion that it took up too much space not being used to my best advantage - which surprise surprise - means I really need more bookcase space.
Someone had been keen to have it but found it too big for her house, and had offered it to anyone in the womens group to see if it was useful. But I had forgotten how this particular Hospice shop does quite well with furniture, and as I walked round there were several large furniture pieces with sold on them. So spoke to the lady on the desk and she has given me a phone number for their people who will arrange to pick it up and take it. She seemed very pleased to get it and so we all will be happy. They should get a reasonable price because it is in very good condition and no scratches and a lightish colour which seems to be the vogue at the moment. Only snag is that of course it means I have to empty it all, find somewhere for things to go until I get reorganised, clear the hall of everything and hope they can get it out in one piece, So, the first bit is down to me. No one else can sort out drawers and paperwork etc, and that will have to be my priority this week, but I should be more galvanised into getting on with the job knowing they need it and I can then get a drinks cabinet table thing , that at the moment is languishing in the garage. That can come in, be polished up and all drinks etc put in it and wll give me a top to put magazines or coffee or whatever next to my chair. Well as I have said before, this time of year is a sort of new year to me. Old habits die hard and as colleg would be beginning or schools and new courses, this is a time when mentally i seem able to make plans and be more prepared to chuck things out etc. Who knows by november it might actually be pristine and tidy in here (dont hold your breath!)
So today no great plans, but need a bit of food shopping, go down the bank, and possibly meet a friend for coffee, as we all get back to normal after the bank holidays. Must go through the calendar and check any appointments I have to go to, and have the diabetic check up in a couple of weeks which is sort of the yearly check up. So hoping there has not been much change on that score. So plenty of things to go on with. What I would like to do if it stays dry and warm is get out in the garden, however at the moment not much chance until my back improves, but have had the idea of putting my chair out on the grass, tipping a drawer full of things from the dresser into a black plastic bag and then can sit out their and sort it into two other bags, One will be stuff to be returned eventually to wherever stuff is going to go, and the other I shall shred paperwork up and get rid of things, so combining a job that needs doing with the chance to sit out. My car is also in need of a good sort out. It is quite dirty on the outside, but can stay that way whilst the drought is here. They never seem to announce that with drought restrictions do they? i think there should be an absolute ban on cleaning cars other than the number plate and windows, we could save loads of water for much more important things. So these are the good plans made by mice and men - what actually gets done we shall see. I do need to make an effort as there are some more agricultural small shows which I will hope to go to, and need the picnic box and such like all at the ready. Only a week to go for my favourite Muker show, which has everything I enjoy. Fell races to watch lovely scenery, Muker silver band play very well , wandering round the tents and meeting many old friends. Whilst like many others I am praying for rain, I hope that it is dry for Muker show.
I am pleased to see you are getting going again Mick and hope you have an easy time with the chiropodist and meet up with some friends in Bicester. Pantglas, hope your lawn is perking up with a drop of rain. Due to my malfunctioning laptop I seem to have missed some important posts and dont know what has happened to FGT or Susan. I am sorry if they are having a hard time.Hope you have a pleasant evening with your friend. Ashcombe hope all the trains were running on time for you and you have a safe journey home.Greyduster hope your day goes well. You have reminded me that I havent put ironing on my list for the day either, so will see when there is some good play, or programme on the radio to get cracking on that. Actually I need to have a look at a new iron. Mine is getting old and not doing a very good job, and I have only had it for about 8 years. No value in anything is there? Well have some Tesco points so they can go towards an all singing all dancing new one. What a shame they havent devised an iron that fishes the clothes from the basket and works like the self mowing lawnmower and does it all for you!
Well hope you all have a productive day, whether that is jobs done or having a rest to recuperate from holidays and childminding etc.
