Some advice please- do you find Birkenstocks comfortable? To wear all day and walk a few miles on errands, sightseeing etc

My Moshulu sandals, several years old, worn day in day out.

Snap! You have great taste. here are mine plus a pink pair. I think I have four more pairs in the cupboard. They just do not wear out. I know these are very well worn.

Love my Birkenstocks, wear them like slippers, once they mould to your feet they are just so comfy

The very first time I wore them I thought I’d made an expensive mistake. They felt just awful.
but I persevered and suddenly a couple of weeks they became the most comfortable things I’d ever worn. I now own about 8 pairs and wear them winter and summer. I also wear them to trot about during the day and so a standing up job at a Theater.
After having plantar fasciitis I never want the pain again and birkies do it for me.
So my advise is to measure very carefully to get the correct size and push through. Good luck

I’ve worn them and found them very comfortable. I’ve also got M&S and Hotter dupes which are also comfortable. I wear indoors and out, all through the summer.

I’ve worn Birkenstocks for years - I love them and I’ve a few different pairs. As they are expensive I’m always on the look out for sales. I also wear Haflingers - very similar to Birkenstocks. Both very comfortable once you get used to the footbed. I drive in them and they certainly don’t pose a problem as my feet don’t slip out of them. I can walk around all day in them. I like and buy them for the great arch support.

Completely comfortable and can walk miles in mine.

What’s so wonderful about Birkenstocks I seem to have managed without ever having them on my feet
They re expensive aren’t they ?,

Never a sniff of a Birkenstock has passed my in-grown fungal toenails either!
I have sort-of leared-over very nice pictures of them in fancy magazines but I gave myself a good talking to, along the lines of Mrs Ilovedogs!......
"You are not a lemming!!!"
Which thankfully did the trick & I'm
now happily shuffeling along in a comfy pair from a well know massive river. 😎

And I wore these for years until they were wrecked.

I live in my Birkies all summer. Long walks, shopping, round the house, all toe post style but some people find them uncomfortable. I love my Skechers too when it’s cooler.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 28-Aug-25 13:39:37

I love mine. I’ve pretty much worn them every day since I bought them in April. They cost £95.
Cost per wear therefore = buttons.

I have tried Birkenstocks of varying styles and the footbed is very hard and non flexible and not for me.

I have arthritis in my knees and always ensure that the sole is supportive but has some give. My physio suggested ensuring the sole is soft enough to roll from heel to toe in order to walk correctly.

I find various styles of Teva sandals and flip flops work well.

Wish there was an edit button! It is not illegal but advised against. I should check my facts before posting. blush

Midgey you were half-right. Depends where you live. UK is fine but when we lived in Portugal, we were surprised to find that flip-flops are illegal to drive in.

I’m pretty sure it is against the law to drive in flip flops or Birkenstocks, as Maybe suggests you must drive in ‘proper’ shoe where your feet are ‘secure’.

dogsmother Thu 28-Aug-25 12:42:17

Horses for courses, I like Moshlulu and loathe Skechers. Give me a standard Clarkes shoe or sandal and any old flip flop. My current house slippers are flip flops from Sainsbury’s about four years ago.

Re Birkenstocks for driving. Isn’t it rather dangerous driving in something that your feet could slip out of? Which could possibly invalidate your insurance?

Visgir1 Thu 28-Aug-25 12:33:40

I did buy some but couldn't get on with them, gave them away to a chum.
My DD and my DIL both are fans in the summer months.
Think I will stick to my Fitflops, /Sketchers and Allbirds. I do have a pair of Moshulu shoes which I wear around the house.

love0c Thu 28-Aug-25 12:02:41

Birkenstocks ar like walking on concrete. dreadful footwear. Sketchers are just heaven!

Jaxjacky Thu 28-Aug-25 09:01:24

I’m new to them this year, a friend gave me some toe post Birks from Australia, they are comfortable, but I find them heavy after my normal surf flip flops.

No - I tried hard but they just didn’t suit my feet so in the end I chucked them. I prefer sketchers. I have very narrow feet so probably that might be a factor.

I have narrow small feet, U.K. 2 or 3 depending on style, Birkenstocks have a narrow range.

JamesandJon33 Thu 28-Aug-25 08:18:55

Love Birkenstocks. If measured correctly they support the foot and your arches. I have straight toes, not a bunion or corn in sight.
They also come in many styles and colours, and of course you must wear the if you are even a bit arty. 🤭

Yes they are.
I have never tried them either, but shoes and makes of shoes are one of those things that you either rave about or they just don’t suit your feet.
