Some advice please- do you find Birkenstocks comfortable? To wear all day and walk a few miles on errands, sightseeing etc

I usually am a size 6 but my Birks are a 5 and fit perfectly to the contours of my feet.

My Birkenstocks have a strap across the back, which makes them feel secure.

I love my Birkenstocks but I wouldn’t spend a day walking in them - they’re fine to pop round the shops. The cork can be very drying if you’re in bare feet so heel balm is a good idea.

Graso, I find Moshulu sizing pretty reliable, and they do half-sizes, but they don’t do variable width fittings, as far as I know. I have their boots, slippers and sandals, and all are true to size.

Graso Fri 29-Aug-25 13:45:12

May I ask the Moshulu fans how they fit?

I have wide feet, my shoe size is 5.5/38.5 but, as is often the case, when half sizes aren’t available I would go up to a 6/39.

Surprisingly my Birkenstocks are all size 5/38 and fit perfectly, so I’m wondering if the same would apply to Moshulu?

Thanks in anticipation of replies 😊

Birkenstock mould to the feet and also align the foot to the footbed ...

I love mine. I’ve pretty much worn them every day since I bought them in April. They cost £95.
Cost per wear therefore = buttons.

If I had feet as lovely as yours, I might try them! (I’m not being creepy, it’s just that I have unattractive feet and I am always envious when someone has attractive ones).

I find they tip me back too much. Having worn heels since I was 9 (cure for flat feet with nasty metal bridges in), my tendons give me gyp with such flat shoes.
I have been wearing Skechers for the last 10 years, but this year their sandal range was a bit scruffy.
Every now and then I can find a pair of Josef Siebel in a sale, but not for walking very far

Primrose - What an impressive collection!

Here’s my only other remaining pair of sandals, Sainsbury’s I think. Not much support but nice and light to wear.

Deviating from the subject a bit, sorry, as a teen in the sixties I lived in Dr Scholls wooden sandals. I’m not at all convinced that they helped my feet one bit. Anybody else?

I’ve still got a pair floating round my house. I don’t know how I used to wear them with my mutant feet. I tried on my Clark’s trekking sandals the other day after looking at some photos of me walking the Samaria Gorge in them. I’ve walked so many miles in them and they’re still good as new but I can’t wear them now. Crocs and trainers for me.

Delila I just had a quick look in cupboard and here is my sandal collection. Plus the two pairs I already showed you. Several Mosulu pairs here. 😉. The thing with Moshulus are they don’t wear out but the footbeds look well worn. They are still comfy though.

Then of course there are walking sandals, smart shoes, walking boots, biker boots, welly boots and smart trainers.

My friend talked me into buying a pair a couple of years ago.
She wears hers all the time through the summer and so does her teacher daughter who is always on her feet.

Mine were about £65, which I thought was expensive.

I’ve tried and tried but don’t find them at all comfortable .i can’t see me wearing them again . Might give them away !

* wear!!

NoodleNut Thu 28-Aug-25 17:24:29

I where the Madrid syle can walk miles in them no problem. I cannot wear toe-post sandals at all -wish I could.

Babylon Thu 28-Aug-25 17:03:53

I was recommended them by a podiatrist once. I had never heard of them. I realised that ~I had seen them but not been familiar with the name but thought them too 'clunky' looking.
However I tried on a pair of the 'toe loop' ones earlier this year. The sales assistant said that they normally take a week or so to get used to and she wasn't wrong. I LOVE them and have now ordered another pair in a different colour. Very comfortable; would highly recommend.

SueEH Thu 28-Aug-25 16:17:35

Yes, but has to be the toe posts.

Crossstitchfan Thu 28-Aug-25 16:11:52

I would love to have a pair (or two!) of Birks but I can’t stand anything between my toes. Despite persevering, wearing them for 10 minutes, etc., I just can’t bear them! Shame because I love the look of them, and the quality.

I find Birks very comfortable. I walk miles in Birks.

Mojack26 Thu 28-Aug-25 15:57:46

Not particularly. Find they have no grip on sole

PinkCosmos Thu 28-Aug-25 15:56:49

I have just bought a pair of the traditional Birkenstocks. I have been coveting them for ages but always thought they were too expensive. I am still trying to break them in after three weeks. The footbed is very hard. Not sure if its Emperor's New Clothes!!

For years I have been wearing Hotter Tourist sandals (as picture) which have a similar footbed. They have a strap around the back which I really prefer. I can walk for miles in them. They have never rubbed my feet and I am the world's worse for getting blisters. They are not cheap (about £65). I have them in loads of colours and try to get them when I have a discount code.

I also bought a pair of fake Birkenstocks from Temu for about £10. They are so comfortable but don't look like they will last long

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 28-Aug-25 15:49:39

When we lived in Seychelles I often drove in flip flops and sometimes bare feet.

Fartooold Thu 28-Aug-25 15:37:15

I love my Birkenstock sandals they are so comfortable for my short fat feet. Have just bought a new pair for £22.50

Casdon Thu 28-Aug-25 15:36:16

I can’t wear them, the side of the footbed by my big toe is too narrow for my feet, so it digs in and gives me blisters. Shoes and sandals are such a personal thing, I don’t think anything beats trying them on, and seeing if they suit your foot shape and give you the support you want.

Delila Thu 28-Aug-25 15:29:27

Haha! Here’s my red pair - slightly older, slightly on the big side, but love ‘em anyway!
