Anyone else ? We have a southwest lounge and it has been absolutely stifling ! It’s been raining now for a couple of hours, DH and I are having a lazy afternoon with the patio doors open breathing in the lovely cool air.
I’ll probably be moaning in a couple of weeks about weather, but for today at least it’s so refreshing.

What a lovely word LaCrepescule Diolch

We've only had light rain with a few downpours so the lawn still looks extremely sad. I can't even get a fork in the borders to do a bit of weeding. The ground is solid.

Heavy rain for at least the last couple of hours, hooray no watering tonight, but it has shown up a problem with the gutters, so only a partial win!

RosesandLilac Fri 29-Aug-25 07:00:34

B…. All in the way of rain here in south Glos, one three minute downpour and that’s it!
I’m still watering my pots every day 🤬

The smell of wet earth after a dry spell is called petrichor ❤️

Yes! It rained yesterday and when I woke this morning at 5.30 it was raining again. I’ve opened the window so I can hear the pitter patter. Looking forward to my dog walk in my waterproof.

We’ve had a deluge in the midlands. Just hope it put the fires out on the North Yorkshire moors.
The smell of wet earth is fabulous!

I heard someone from Kew Gardens say they had lost over 400 trees to heat stress last year and it may be worse this year. My garden is covered in fallen leaves. It looks like late September but the leaves have been falling since the beginning of July. I don't think my lovely Mahonia will recover, but the tomatoes have done well. We may have some rain overnight (fingers crossed)

It's like a watched pot never boils with the rainclouds here - if I keep looking to see if it's raining it doesn't even though the clouds are stormy.
Today I was preoccupied with other things & the sky has finally managed to let us have some water.
I think the lawn will recover, but some of the open spaces near us will have to be re-seeded (by who?) The grass has burnt off & we all keep walking on it & it looks like even the roots have eroded.

Thank you GNs. Your rain dances worked. We’ve finally had some rain. A long way to go yet but it’s a start

Hoping for even more rain in Yorkshire to help the exhausted firefighters battling the terrible moorlands wildfires.

Being driven along country lanes today I saw the clear results of five months of drought. The hedge rows are thickly laden with berries, the fruit trees covered but the leaves are turning brown and the chestnuts look dead.
This isn’t caused by autumn, it’s stress, where living things in danger reproduce like mad.
Unless we get long weeks of heavy rain our trees and hedges will die.
Don’t anyone moan about the rain unless you want to live in a desert.

A few spots of rain this afternoon, hoping it will rain properly soon. I’m fed up with watering the tomatoes and plants in pots!
Think I’ll have to reseed the earth where the lawn once was, luckily I have lots of grass seed.

Thunderstorms and downpours here in SWest France.
Temperature down to 21 degrees. Wonderful. Finally able to sleep under the (very) light duvet.

What is the point of your comment?

You are priceless! Thank god I don’t know you! Babs wasn’t sarcastic, nasty or critical like some!
I don’t think I have ever seen a pleasant friendly post on here from you. You must be a really sad and bitter woman.

Here in West Wales we have had really heavy bursts of rain, followed by warm sun. I know the rain is much needed, but I am on holiday!!!

Allira Thu 28-Aug-25 16:12:09

The black clouds approach
We're going out in a bit!

Bazza Thu 28-Aug-25 16:10:47

We keep getting serious looking black clouds overhead followed by a pathetic bit of drizzle. Our lawn is like concrete, but I have faith that with a good soak the grass will recover. What amazing stuff it is! Hard to remember that we had stripes last year. Not missed cutting it though.

Do your patio doors open inwards?
I love sitting in our conservatory with the doors open, they open outwards though, so have to close them when it’s raining 😩

Allira Thu 28-Aug-25 15:57:39

I went out and watered a few things in the front garden, tubs that don't catch the rain, new perennials and a young tree thst is looking stressed.
That'll bring the rain on, I thought.
It did, all of about 5 minutes of it. Then the sun came out again.

When it says there is an 85% chance of rain, it obviously doesn't mean it will rain for 85% of that day, it means there is a 15% chance it won't rain on your garden at all 😀

AuntieE Thu 28-Aug-25 15:50:12

It WILL rain tomorrow. I have a garden bench I want to finish painting, and it is too heavy to move indoors.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

A heavy downpour about half an hour ago here in the SE and more rain to come tomorrow morning. Sunny again now.
Hopefully the garden will perk up.

I love rain and the sound of rain, but only in the night 😂

Me too. Apparently we had 2 minutes of rain yesterday but I missed it I was in Tesco.
