Its a dark and wet start here in Brackley this morning.
My day will be bus trip to Bicester shop and chat to those I know .

Marydoll, are you able to change doctor's at your surgery? He doesn't sound as if he's up to the job at all.

Grammaretto Fri 29-Aug-25 08:37:29

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's dry again. We did have some heavy showers yesterday and the slugs and snails were out en masse. I loathe those slugs too Ekwa but so does my American garden helper. What she gets excited about is being able to reach into a shrubby area knowing she won't find a snake!

I packed and fired the kiln yesterday and began to get my showroom ready for open studios next weekend.
I may put a table up in the garden like a carboot sale. as part of the decluttering process

I sent a photo of some good wooden stuff to the Mens' shed but had a reply that they are decluttering too!

Working in the store today.

Fingers crossed for good progress for Marydoll and others with health worries.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning from Shropshire where the forecast is for sunshine and showers but who knows🤷‍♀️

A quiet day planned as from tomorrow a busy time compared to the quiet life we have had since my illness.

Marydoll, I am so pleased you are finally getting decent care🥳As you know my recent emergency admission to hospital was caused by mis diagnosis by my GP.The consultant was horrified and referred me to the community nurses to ‘keep an eye’ on me.The care I have had from them has been brilliant and although still tired feel better than I have for a long time.A 45 minute phone call yesterday which was so helpful and weekly calls for the foreseeable future. Why do we have to get so very unwell before anything is done😡I am so pleased for you.I am sure that knowing you are getting care will already have given you a boost.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Good Morning from Durham. It’s bright and breezy so far.
I’m grinning like a Cheshire Cat reading Marydoll’s post. We’ve never met, but I’m so pleased that she is getting somewhere after what seems a positive appointment. Her GP should be sacked!
Gardener came yesterday - money for old rope as nothing had grown.
This afternoon, I’m collecting DGS1 from Holiday Club and meeting DD2 and DGS2 at a soft play venue. It’ll be noisy!

Best wishes to all. X

ginny Fri 29-Aug-25 08:21:01

Good morning from N. Bucks where we have heavy rain which has been pouring for at least the last hour.
We enjoyed Blood Brothers last evening, a great production.
DD3 and family arrive home from their holiday later today so hoping to say a quick hello - goodbye before I go off to Devon tomorrow.
DH is a bit grumpy this morning as the rain has stopped him playing golf so I’ll find him a few jobs to do.
I have both a manicure and hair appointment this morning and then home to pack for said trip to Devon.
So pleased to see that Marydoll is at last getting some attention. Thinking of her and other GNs who are ill or troubled and wishing all a good day.

GrannySomerset Fri 29-Aug-25 08:17:01

We had several very brief but heavy showers yesterday afternoon and some rain overnight and the garden looks distinctly happier though still not really green. It’s a step in the right direction.

Have a rough place round a front tooth so need to try to get the dentist to see me but suspect it may be difficult. It’s driving me mad!

Grandmabatty Fri 29-Aug-25 08:12:33

Ekwa I couldn't bear to look at a slug let alone touch one. I,too, am a slug phobic. I once tore ligaments in my ankle trying to avoid one while walking my last dog. So hearty applause from me to you

Greyduster Fri 29-Aug-25 08:09:42

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an overcast and decidedly cool South Yorkshire. I turned in quite early last night and apart from a text from DD at a quarter to twelve to say that GS had arrived home from his holiday, I slept through until seven. We had heavy rain yesterday evening and though not for very long, it does seem to have made some difference to the parched appearance of the garden. I shall go to the gym this morning, and then see how the day unfolds.
Kalu I hope the dentist is not too traumatic.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Beechnut Fri 29-Aug-25 08:03:24

Good morning everyone and thank you for birthday greetings earlier in the week.

When I went to Tesco they were putting out the Christmas sweets on the shelves…crikey.

I’ll come back to read posts later. 💐

EkwaNimitee Fri 29-Aug-25 08:01:17

Good morning Mick and everyone from damp, cloudy Carlisle.
It looks like a few showery days are due, just as I need some dry periods to put in some trays of bedding and salad plants. I visited the garden centre yesterday, they had loads of plants left over from the summer season and it appeared they'd given up watering and were just letting them all die off judging by the withered look of a lot of them. Very little new stock in yet except for the pansies and lettuces I bought. The lettuces are all the red-tinged sort, I'd heard slugs don't like them because they're too bitter-tasting. This was certainly the case in my last garden but here? We'll see.
I was casually strolling through the garden yesterday morning when I spotted 3 monster-sized slugs in my raised bed, this is the downside of rain! Dispatched to slug heaven or maybe hell.
I'm a slug phobic, can't even look at a picture of one so it takes a lot to remove one from a plant, especially when I've just had my breakfast!

Today, more housework catch up, the ironing and admin whilst hoping for a dry spell so I can nip out into the garden.

Pity I can't help you madeleine, I love a good sort out! Good luck with yours.

Have the best possible day everyone.

Liberty Fri 29-Aug-25 07:59:32

Good morning from a damp grey looking Suffolk where we had a drizzle of rain last night when we were in the pub with DS and his tribe. Not that we heard or saw it but the road was a bit wet as we left.

I’m off to Norwich to meet a friend who lives on the north Norfolk coast. We are meeting for coffee at the newly restored castle which has been closed for several months so it will be interesting to see what it is like now. There is an exhibition of Frederick Sandys’ chalk portraits which we are looking forward to seeing after coffee and before lunch.

I hope those with issues to sort out have a successful outcome and those not feeling their best have a positive day.

peli Fri 29-Aug-25 07:54:18

Good Morning - forecast is sunny & hot. Today is my GDs' birthday - I'd love to see her, but sadly all birthdays & holidays are sadly spent apart. In other "local" news, we have a major bird rebellion going on at our daily beach coffee spot. There are plans to tear down the old pier (abandoned) where they love to roost. Over the last few days, more & more pelicans have been arriving! We suspect they've called in all their available distant relatives to help stage a protest "sit-in" on the beach, lol. Today we noticed extra groups of terns....brought in as ringers? I hope everyone has a happy day, & (hugs) to those who are struggling.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 29-Aug-25 07:50:40

Morning all from a very wet and grey West Oxfordshire. We had lots of rain yesterday too.

A potential window cleaner is popping in today and will give us a price. Our previous guy just stopped coming.

OH has to see his bees later. They don’t like rain so will no doubt be aggressive.

Have a good day everyone. So many of us are having difficult times which is such a shame..

Marydoll Fri 29-Aug-25 07:49:26

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°C and cloudy.
Fortunately DH and got home yesterday, just before the torrential rain started.

Roses, I am so sorry to hear of your problem. I wonder if your hearing aids are still paired with your old phone, which is why they won't correct.
I had a search on the Internet and found this. It may or may not help.
Hearing Aids

Yesterday's was appointment was very enlightening and mainly positive, but left me very angry with my GP.
Apart from one suspicious sore, the lesions are non-cancerous, they are being caused by one my R.A drugs, which gas been stopped.
I was most impressed by the young, handsome, 6ft plus, lond, Scandinavian looking, xtremely knowledgeable doctor.
He was so patient, as I poured out my tale of woe.
What a difference to meet a clinician, who was both a doctor and dentist.
Coincidentally, he knew my dentist well.🤣

He was horrified at how long I had been left to suffer this and asked why my GP hadn't referred me much sooner, I said I had tried to get help, eventually having to ask my RA consultant and dentist to intervene.
What alarmed him most was the amount of weight, I have lost, in such a short period of time, which should have been investigated by my GP.

The lovely lady consultant, then came in to have a chat.
She too was concerned about the weight loss, saying the ulcers alone shouldn't have caused that. She also discovered that I have a fungal infection in my throat and tongue, which is why I am so hoarse and nauseous.

I was then asked how the treatment was going for the various types of anaemia, I have. The tests aren't back yet, I said, so the treatment can't start.
The blood tests are back, said the doctor, so you should have started your therapy! 😡
The consultant and doctor exchanged looks, realising now what I am up against.

The outcome was, that I had numerous photos taken to get a better view of the suspicious lesion inside my cheek, I will start various medications to help both the ulcers, thrush and Sjogrens.
Apparently, the medications my GP had been prescribing for my mouth, were utterly useless and unsuitable for patients with R.A.
The consultant will write to both my GP and RA consultant advising them of my treatment and recommending that investigations be done into the weight loss.
It could be that my RA is preventing my body absorbing nutrients.
The best part of all, is I am to receive a copy of the letter, to ensure my GP, follows the recommendations.
Basically my GP has let me down badly. As soon as the ulcers refused to heal, he should have referred my, as per NHS protocols. 😪

On a lighter note, the two doctors mentioned the previous owner doctor whose room we were in.
He is the brother of the GP, I was sick over last week! 🤣

A gentle stroll down Sauciehall Street followed. I only realised there in a bike lane in the centre of the wide pavemts, when I was almost run over. It basically was a race track. 😱
We had a sandwich in John Lewis, I picked up the Gütermann threads, I was looking for, then home.
In the old days, I would have been out for hours. 😌
We had planned to go for a proper lunch, but I was exhausted, so had take away last night. Even better!

On arriving home, I spotted a hospital letter on the mat.
It was a heart scan appointment for next Friday. That is
extremely fast! The referral was only done a few days ago and apparently, waiting times lengthy.
Later the phone rang, offering me an earlier appointment on Monday afternoon. Of course I immediately accepted,
The dynamics of my treatment have changed dramatically in the last week,

Kitty, I hope your daughter's surgery went well and good luck for today, Kalu,

DH has just brought me a cuppa, painkillers and two hot water bottles for my joints. ♥️
I intend to do nothing today.

Thinking of Blossoming, who is so unwell and Susan, I hope today are staring to feel better.x

GG are you still trapped upstairs? 😉

Have a good day folks.

grandMattie Fri 29-Aug-25 07:48:40

madeleine, try Xi Gung first as your mobility is limited.

There are some very good tutorials online - free!

Like T’ai chi, Xi Gung is a series of choreographed movements, but in Xi Gung, they are repeated several times before moving on to the next movement
Good luck.

madeleine45 Fri 29-Aug-25 07:39:40

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still rather grey morning in North Yorkshire. I have tottered here feeling as though I have done 10 rounds with Mohammed Ali!! Been awake since about 4am, but in such a bruised and battered state that only needing the loo got me up out of bed and struggling. Still, that is only physical and will (hopefully!) improve over time. Mentally I am alert and on the boil, writing myself lists and notes for today.

Yesterday wasnt in a very good state physically and it was frustrating as I needed to start sorting out this dresser that I have promised to the Hospice shop. It is that circular thing. I need to ring their removal people to make a time and date for them to come for it. However I also therefore need to clear the whole dresser and also move things everywhere out of the way for them to get it out, and it will be quite a job even with things moved away. So I was struggling anyway and although I had done the washing, because I cant find the dratted key to the yellow peril, I had to get clothes horses out and stick it out on the lawn outside. I have never checked but dont think we are meant to put washing out like that. However it was needs must as I just could not carry it there myself and they were promising rain in the afternoon so it was Hobsons choice!

I struggled on with things knowing what I needed to do but it was so infuriating trying to reach things etc. But help was at hand, as Jessy came a bit early and had her lovely tall son with her today. So that was so useful . They were able to turn the matress over on the bed and sort that out and then Harley was brilliant at reaching high up for things from the shelves etc and was able to do in a few minutes what would have taken me hours. Problem was I had not been able to get any boxes or be more organised as to where things would have to go to be outof the way. So, as I thought, the bedroom has had to become an assault course, and each drawers worth of things that only I can sort out have had to be put in a tesco bag for me to deal with. So I look like the bag lady now, with the various bags to go through, another big recycling bag for appropriate rubbish and an ever mounting pile of paperwork that I must read through properly and put it in the right order. So whilst it actually looks more messy and chaotic, it is actually a work in progress so every little thing sorted will be a step on the way. Am now going to be able to ring the people and fingers crossed they will come next tuesday and then hurrah more bookshelf space. it will be lovely to have the shelves in the right order. I kept my bookcases in library order, so that I know exactly where specific contents such as gardening books are. It has added to the frustration to not be able to lay a hand on a specific thing straight away. So better things to look forward to, and newer friends who have only known me since I came here, will find that I am not such an untidy so and so , but will be glad to reclaim the space, and even get some of my pictures put up at last. However I do not want to jump ahead of myself yet. Need to be sure when they are coming for a start. I have also now got all the washing in and need to get that sorted and put in the ever growing ironing mountain.

The promised rain did not arrive yesterday, well three very minute amounts of drizzle , which meant I rushed out to collect washing in only to have to put it out again. However it looks much more likely that we will get a downpour probably this afternoon. It will be welcome for the garden but much more needed up on the moor where the fire is still burning and they have FINALLY got some help from other areas up near Fylingdale. The lack of support from southern areas has been appalling. Lack of interest of course apart from on the news. No rush to offer help of any kind. Fortunately here in Yorkshire we have a better frame of mind and farmers and gamekeepers and many more people have all been giving their time and risking the danger, when they have taken bowsers up to the fire and the wind has changed direction . With thick smoke there have been times when the drivers did not know if the fire was in front or behind them. People have been taking food and drink to the workers and the rest of us are doing the best we can by staying away and not blocking any roads up there.

Another sad thing will be that all the events that have been worked hard for like staithes art festival and the pirate weekend at whitby will not be going ahead, or at least be very curtailed and that will mean another loss of income, for so many people already hard hit by the economic situation.

I will be looking in the local newspaper and making a list for everyone in the womans group, so that they know what is happening round here, as it will be the last week of the holidays and there will be that mix of having to get ready for school, but also hoping to do something nice with the children and have a bit of a get together. Dont think I shall be going to anything, until I get more of this chaos sorted out, but at least I have made a start. Good job I made that mince up, as standing cooking will not be part of the day today. So think there will be some tinkering with it and adding some curry to it and have a choice of rice, so that should be an easy meal to do, and not take time from the sorting out.

Still not found my little green bag with the toucans on it. Most annoying, not just for what was in it, but had a little notebook that I write jobs and ideas in and then cross them out as I get things done. I know there were a few things that had occured to me like checking tv license etc, but cant remember everything. Well at some point I will have to go out in the car as have absolutely no bread left, need the local paper, and one or two veg things, so am going to try and pace myself. The plan is to tackle two plastic bags and then have a break. I cannot stay in one position for a long time at the moment so hopefully that will keep me changing round, so will now catch up with the washing up and tidying the kitchen, so with the radio on I shall have plenty to do here today. The weather will decide the order things get done, but at least I can already look at the dresser with empty shelves and half sorted out. Even if I feel disinclined to do much , I shall be galvanised by the time and date that the men are coming to shift it. Actually I can do with a quieter time at home. Must look up when the surgeon is going to ring me re my eye, and hope that I can at last go swimming , which would be a big plus to loosen me up. However this eye has taken a lot longer to improve and whilst it is not so painful now I am not seeing very well from it yet, so fingers crossed that it has gone according to plan and just needs a bit more patience. The thought that it hasnt worked and I will have to go through yet another treatment is something I am trying to ignore right now. Ah well onward and upward!

Hope you have a good trip into Bicester Mick and enjoy your cycle racing. Very sad about Chris Frome on the news, not the sort of ending to his career that he hoped for. GrandMattie, good to hear you sounding a little brighter and hope that you can enjoy your new quilting adventure. I keep wanting to try tai chi, but there doesnt seem to be a class close by here, and the only one I saw was both expensive and quite a way away, so left that for now. Sounds as though your tomatoes have done well. Years ago when my husband was playing rugby often on saturday afternoon we would have either grilled bacon and tomatoes , or sausages and tomatoes and lovely fresh bread. It was a very quick but tasty , and I always connect it to the rugby now. Speaking of which I might get chance to watch a bit of the womans rugby. RoseandLilac, You have my sympathies about the hearing aids episode. Sometimes it is the last straw after we have coped with various problems, when something that you feel should have been a simple thing to sort out takes for ever and you could scream!! Kalu do hope things go well for you at the dentist and that you can escape to your garden this afternoon Dont think I will get outside this afternoon according to the forecast we should have a downpour, but has the weather heard the news?

Well I shall now creak off and cheer the morning with more coffee and begin the herculean task of bring order into the shambles here. Hope everyone can have a peaceful and positive day today and that it is a good day for medical issues for us all . Enjoy what sunshine there is and sit out while you can as think we may soon be wishing to be able to sit out, while the wind and rain whirl round.

Good morning from a wet Essex coast, I've not said that for a long time. I think we are due more rain today.
Yesterday would have been my dad's 100th birthday, unfortunately he died at 74 after many years of ill health.
Today I have lots of admin to tackle , it's the end of our financial year at the club so lots of ends to tie up. I must also do some housework, I've not done much since coming home from Holland.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, best wishes to all xx

kittylester Fri 29-Aug-25 07:19:33

Good morning all from North Leicestershire where the weather looks as if it could go either way.

DH got soaked watching Bertie play football last night.

Thank you all for your good wishes for DD1 yesterday. Rather than lasting the 8-10 hours predicted, her op was over in 3.5 hours. She seems well but is uncomfortable as her room is kept at 30° to help the blood vessels. We are visiting tomorrow.

So, shopping for cooling fruit today and a a trip to the egg farm. Curry making this afternoon.

baubles Fri 29-Aug-25 07:15:29

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, we’ve had rain but the sky is clearing now.

We spent nearly three hours yesterday afternoon sitting stationary on the motorway as there was an accident just ahead of us. The police eventually turned the traffic back on itself after closing the road behind us. I’m so sorry for the people involved.

We should have been collecting DS’s children from school but will go this morning instead, they finish at lunchtime on Fridays.

A humungous spider was making itself at home in a corner of my bedroom when I woke up. It’s the third one I’ve liberated in the past few days, either that or the same very determined one climbing back in the window.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

NannyJan53 Fri 29-Aug-25 07:15:21

Good morning from a grey and damp Black Country.

My walking group completed the 10K walk for cancer research, mostly in the rain, which obviously we need. It didn't deter us though and we raised over £1200.

My 'little' brother (all 6ft 4 of him) is 70 today! The family are all over to his house near Worcester tomorrow to celebrate. They were planning on a BBQ, but I feel that may be changed to a Buffet indoors.

Roses I completely understand how you are feeling. I would feel the same, as I have hearing aids connected to Blue Tooth, and it is a game changer when it comes to phone calls, I used to really struggle to hear before. As Ashcombe mentioned, I would see if Audiology could sort it, as they were the people who connected mine initially.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

cornergran Fri 29-Aug-25 07:15:12

Morning Mick, morning All from a cloudy corner of Somerset. There has been some overnight rain, looks damp out there.

A miracle, I’ve slept for 7 hours, so why do I feel so much more tired? One of life’s mysteries. A new iPad arrives today, my 9 year old version has a tendency to stall and is almost full. Tiny capacity. I’m not good at these things, wonder how long the transfer will take me? Hours? Days? Weeks?

Volunteering this morning, a need to catch up with home admin this afternoon. Not a bad day ahead at all, I like feeling up to date with things.

Good luck kalu. Hope there is some help with your hearing aids roses, more than frustrating.

Best get a move on or I’ll be late. Have the best day you can everyone.

Redcar Fri 29-Aug-25 07:06:46

Good morning everyone from a slightly damp mid Essex. Only a few spots of rain yesterday, hoping for more today,
Yesterday was quiet, I visited the podiatrist but may try doing my own toenails in future as I can reach them now!
A pile of ironing awaits today, then it’s bingo in the village hall this evening. Always fun and good to meet up with friends.

I hope the dentist isn’t too painful/uncomfortable this morning kalu
rosesandlilac I hope you get your Bluetooth connection sorted out soon.
grandmattie I’m pleased you’re feeling a little brighter today - soon be September! I’m not keen on August either for various reasons.
Thinking of all those who are struggling with any kind of problems.
Have the best day possible everyone, with rain if you need it!

luluaugust Fri 29-Aug-25 07:02:01

Good morning from a damp W Kent. An outing to our big shopping centre resulted in a rather expensive picture frame for DGS3s graduation picture, an expensive bottle of silver cleaner and a complete failure to get DSs birthday present. Will try again today.
Roses I have a problem with my phone and Bluetooth and am trying to find help.
Best wishes to all
