The cat brought in a mouse.....

Our old cat once brought back a live baby rabbit, which promptly disappeared under the cooker. We had to take the cooker out to retrieve it - and let it go, apparently none the worse for its ordeal. We had a huge rat in the garden this week, but it managed to squeeze out of the garden gate before our Lab could dispatch it!

I think someone near here puts out rat poison. We've found two dead rats in our garden but also a dead hedgehog. ☹

Allira, the cat usually finishes them off, I think this one is a real fighter.

I'm OK with mice ,
but not keen on rats .
When a nearby house was almost demolished we were plagued by them .
One shorted out the cooker .
When the electrician pulled out the cooker the dead rat was sort of splayed onto the wall .
It looks like a cartoon .
I turned round to see the electrician passing out with shock !
I have rat poison handy .
It's safe to use as there are no longer any pets in the house .

Last night there was a spider on the wall behind the bed. I was too tired to catch it and evict it. This morning it wasn’t there! Where has it gone?! 😱😱😱🕷️

I’m not afraid of spiders, but a very intimidating one lives under my fridge-freezer and occasionally charges out at me aggressively. I leap back in alarm, it stares at me menacingly for a few seconds, then disappears back under the freezer. It has a large black body and thick black legs.

I am happy to live alongside it, but it needs to stick to its own territory and leave me alone. I wonder how long it’s been there and what it lives on?

We have one that lives under a cupboard in the downstairs loo. It comes out at night for a chat. It's very tiny so far, I'm watching its progress but there doesn't seem much for it to eat in there.

Update - we set a couple of baited traps but the mouse was still sauntering around the kitchen - ignoring the tasty treats we had made available. DH grabbed it, it bit him and DH now has an appt at the urgent care centre for a tetanus jab.

Oh no! Hope he'll be ok, not too sore.

Mice do like peanut butter, good for using in a trap.

Ps what is the matter with your cat? Surely he could have finished the mouse off when it emerged from under the fridge. Tell him he's demoted from being Mousecatcher-in-Chief!

Georgesgran that reminds me of when we had a cat in our last house. The boiler man came to service the boiler in the kitchen, took off the front, turned it round and there spread-eagled on the back of it was a dessicated toad! The cat had obviously brought it in and it had climbed under the front cover for safety and roasted itself...

This made me giggle sorry………it conjured up an image of a splattered cartoon character!

My cat leaves dead victims - often baby rabbits, usually voles - on the patio. If a rabbit is still alive she brings it through the cat flap and bolts upstairs under a bed. The dog follows and rabbit goes under a chest of drawers. I’m quite used to moving furniture while armed with a book to block rabbit’s path and a towel to drop over it. I’d rather catch mammals than spiders!

My fried had one like that in her downstairs loo Delila.

A friend’s daughter (in her 50s) who lives alone is terrified of mice. She moved back in with her parents for several weeks until she was absolutely happy that the mouse she had seen wasn’t coming back!

I'm not too bothered about mice but let a big hairy moth or a daddy longlegs anywhere near me and I become a terrified quaking mess!

This is why - despite having 4 cats - I have never had a cat flap. They have to pass inspection before entering the house.

I was just about to leave the local church a couple of days ago (a Memorial service for a friend) when someone said they had seen a rat come into the entrance hall and it was hiding under a semi-folded umbrella.

Surprisingly nobody had a fit of the heebie-jeebies. We opened the front door fully, closing the interior doors and formed a semi-circle a few feet behind the brolly. The brolly was carefully lifted - and a streak shot out the door.

Getting a mouse out of my hallway on my own has proved more difficult. I'm obviously not scary enough.

It’s the reminder to me why I potentially won’t be having another cat !

Years ago the engineer came to repair my washing machine - when he pulled it out, there was a dead mouse - mummified - underneath! I was mortified.

That's so funny Lathyrus and I can see myself doing exactly the same thing.

Not alone.

I opened the larder cupboard and heard a light pattering sound. Slammed the door. Tried to be brave. Opened door.
Light pattering sound.

Ran next door to neighbours. Hovered trembling and squeaking outside back door while she marched in, flung open cupboard door

and retrieved pack of couscous which had fallen on it’s side and was trickling down the shelves……….😳

No you're not alone kittylester. I think it's their speed rather than the fact they're mice that scares people.

I'm still terrified of spiders .
