Good morning from wet s somerset

A shortie today, I am in process of sorting toothpaste components. New innovative paste yesterday gave my mouth an allergic reaction, had to abandon it but am researching another with the component I want

Petrol yesterday, 18 mile round trip, £70 but these days only once a month and I use the good stuff. I am using my car much less these days

Widowed for ten years now and I have not been able to attend any funeral, just cannot do it, very understandable re your neighbour GN. Well done on the strong united front, they will quickly see that you are not pushovers. Stay strong

Nothing much today apart from getting an alternative toothpaste without the nasty allergenic ingredients. Me and my (relative )dentist are in cahoots

Have a good day

Good Morning fr MS, where the weather is to be 31c w/sunshine like yesterday. I spent the afternoon on the verandah, watching the humming-birds & Monarch butterflies swooping thru the crepe myrtle trees, w/ the cicadas buzzing in the back-ground. Today the hedges need a severe trim, & the (unsuspecting) honey-suckle is about to be corralled...Grandmattie:💐b/c this is a very hard day for you. Ladyleftfielder: I bet yr home will be smelling so lovely as that cakes bakes!

Morning from a dry wet S Hants, heavy rain overnight, more showers today.

Library yesterday so I’ve got books, I'm at a loss without a good book, even though we only read at bedtime.
MrJ has a GP call today and my car needs to go to our mechanic, service and MOT tomorrow.
May those struggling have a better day.

I've gone back to learning Spanish and spending half an hour or so each day. Grammaretto Gaelic is quite difficult

Good morning all. A mostly sunny, mostly dry day predicted for Glasgow today.

I slept for a full unheard of 10hrs the previous night and woke with a thumping headache and full blown head cold. Most of yesterday was spent dozing on and off on the sofa. Eventually fell asleep at 3.00am and woke at 6.00am this morning. I am hoping to feel a good bit better soon as I am out for dinner to celebrate DD1s 50th birthday.

A funeral today would be a stretch too far GM💐 hopefully happy memories of your darling Philip will help you get through this difficult day.
Ash my mother had to attend the dental hospital after her mitral valve replacement in 1975 for fear she would bleed should an extraction be necessary. A hygienist visit though was similarly, antibiotics pre procedure. Hoping your procedure goes smoothly and not too uncomfortable today.

Best wishes to all for a good day with special thoughts to those with illness and worries.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and cloudy. Yesterday was wet off and on but nothing like elsewhere. GrandMattie 💐 such a sad day for you. Susan it's a vicious circle, isn't it? You are so tired, you have to go to bed but that disrupts your normal sleep which makes you tired and so it goes.
Yesterday I did an hour in the school library and felt satisfied that I left it tidy. Then home where I did three loads of washing and dried them in the tumble dryer. I was more tired than usual and had an unexpected nap in the afternoon.
Today I have a chiropodist appointment early on. After that, I have birthday presents to buy for my brother and my son in law. They both have their birthday on the same day next week. I want to buy some books for the boys to read at my house. Dgs1 is starting to read independently and he was so pleased with himself on Monday night. When I return home, I'll look at the photos and paintings still littering the dining room and get them sorted. At least, that's my intention! Have a good day all

I am continuing to learn Welsh🤯

Morning Mick, morning All from a very damp corner of Somerset

Torrential showers yesterday and a short lived thunder storm on our way to the physio who has referred Mr C to MSK after he finally acknowledged the foot pain is no better. A long waiting list though. In the meantime he is to continue exercises, use a stick when walking (he’s not happy about that) and be sensible by pacing activity. All common sense, not something coming naturally to my frustrated man.

Two anxious grandchildren yesterday as they began a new learning year. Both thankfully seemed happy at the end of the day. The third is off to university on Saturday, she’s coming for a very welcome chat this afternoon. Well miss her.

There was some worrying news about two friends, a couple, both receiving end of life care. Also about our friend in what I refuse to call a care home, too many failings. There is to be an investigation into unexplained bruising and a wrist fracture. Vascular dementia means she cannot explain what happened or indeed when. I’ll spend time on the phone supporting both at their wits end daughters.

Thinking of all with challenges in their day.

Hope Thursday is gentle with us all

Good morning from a wet but sunny W Kent. Thank you for the kind wishes for my DGS yesterday, he is waiting for blood tests to come back so the Drs can see what they are dealing with.
I am back to art group this morning and it will be nice to catch up with everyone. Later I must finish packing for our short break

Like grammaretto, I’ve signed up for my Spanish classes again.
It is said that to postpone/avoid dementia, one should either do cryptic crosswords, play a musical instrument or learn a language. Since I would b3 incapable of the first two, I have been learning Spanish for the last 20+ years…

Grammaretto Thu 04-Sept-25 06:53:31

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It rained all day yesterday but is dry now.
I think I will go to yoga this morning despite going to an extra class on Tuesday. The alternative would be a long U3A walk which I was advised not to do by the hospital doctor last week, at least until the inflammation has settled.

How nice to have that special time with DGD Susan

I have signed up for Gaelic again for my sins Madeleine. A new language is supposed to be good for the ageing brain. I like the class and the teacher.

I hope your residents' action group get explanations and a satisfactory response re management, gMattie
A sad day for you.

I am also thinking of Marydoll .

Hope you all have a good day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 04-Sept-25 06:51:05

Morning all from a very wet West Oxfordshire. We had torrential rain yesterday and thunder and lightning.

I didn’t get much done yesterday. My thumb had kept me awake until the early hours with painkillers only working from about 1 am. Apparently it’s known as a ‘post injection flare’. I spent most of the day draped on the sofa.

Today I will finish off the Christmas cake. The dried fruit has been soaking for two days.

We are going out for lunch so I’ll have the Christmas cake mixture prepared ready to bake when we get back.

I ordered what I thought was a lovely mantle clock yesterday on line. OH doesn’t like it so will return it to Waitrose for click and collect.

My new Royal Academy print was delivered yesterday. I am very pleased with it. I’ll take it to the picture framers tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone. I’m thinking of the FGT2s, MaryD and GM especially.

Greyduster Thu 04-Sept-25 06:46:48

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is dry at the moment but we are expecting yet more rain. We also had torrential rain, thunder and lightning yesterday afternoon. I haven’t seen as much rain as that for a long time. I had just managed to get into the library before it started.
I shall go to the gym today on the way to walking group, have lunch with DD and then call in on my niece on the way home.
Have the best day you can, folks.

kittylester Thu 04-Sept-25 06:40:19

Good morning all from North Leicestershire. We had a lot of rain yesterday but it seems dry this morning.

I am helping at Memory Cafe this morning and on an online line Carer Learning session. I will be shattered but DH is looking at new phones so will be more shattered.

GM flowers

Have the best day possible everyone

RosesandLilac Thu 04-Sept-25 06:36:47

Good morning everyone from south Glos, it’s raining here and only 11° so I’m glad I put my wool duvet on the bed last night. I too was awake at silly o’clock then dozed off again.
My dentist trip yesterday will be repeated next Wednesday for a filling 😵‍💫, I did pop into the greengrocers for fresh vegetables and rhubarb and the supermarket for milk. I also bought a jar of homemade marmalade from the greengrocers but forgot to get eggs.
Today is housework, hoping I can get the washing dried on the line too.
Thinking of those who are unwell or struggling, sending love and hugs 🌹

madeleine45 Thu 04-Sept-25 06:18:41

Good morning Mick and all GN's when they join us. It is very dark, no sign of stars or light at all, but no sound of rain, which is all I can tell at the moment.

I have had a very poor night and could definitely do with the human version of WD40 to try and loosen up. Well as the saying goes " Take what you want - and pay for it! " Very true today. I was glad that I managed to get to Muker show, but Oh dear, everything I did reminded me how decrepid I am becoming. Even with them kindly getting me a parking space as near as possible to the show, it was a real effort to get round. Not helped by the expected short but heavy showers. In the past I would have quickly run into a tent or under cover somewhere. Now cant even get up off a chair quickly so just have to get wet!!

Still on the plus side , the band played well as usual, I saw many friends from the band and the choir, and it was lovely to see them all, and catch up a bit. My friend came with his dog, who was very well behaved, but is 10 years old so quite an old boy. He looked with interest at the sheepdog trials but didnt bark or try to go towards it but looked up at times, as if to say Huh I could have done that better. The usual tents and stalls were all there , but I was really struggling to get round, which was very frustrating to say the least, and each obstacle would remind me how I used to dash about and make sure I missed nothing. Never mind, I managed to get there, but sadly just could not stay and stand and sing at the end, which was a shame. If I am a bit better I shall go to the concert on the 6th remembering Norman and it will be a splendid do as not only are all the usual band members past and present going to be there playing, many many players who have been taught or played at concerts for Norman are coming and it will be definitely a gathering of the best players around. People are coming from far and wide, and his grandson is coming from Scotland to conduct, so not an occasion to be missed and will go down as a special day to be remembered in Swaledale.

So down to more mundane things today. When I am able to move about a bit better I want to get the washing going, and then get out to the car, to restore it to its normal setting, and take out stuff from the show and the chairs etc . Then I am at a meeting this morning, to which I understand a local councillor will be coming, so my chance to speak about the dreadful state of roads and paths and ask why they could find the time to come round repainting yellow lines and no parking etc ., with I might add about 5 of them yet as usual 3 watching and 2 doing the painting! Yet not one pot hole filled in or even painted round to show where it needs doing. Huh!! Never mind , drip drip will be my way, and they will all sigh when they see me at meetings and read my letter to the local paper, but will learn if they dont already know, that I shall continue to bring the subject up and we already have a plan for everyone to photograph the worst potholes near their house and then I am going to put a map of the town up and we will pin the photos to the map, making it clear that this is something that must be addressed and that we are not going to be quiet about it. I usually look at the courses that are available at this time of year and look to see what I might join - that is if they are not on a thursday! At the moment just about everything is on a thursday, and like today there are two meetings this morning, but even I cannot be at both at the same time!

What are other GN's planning to do this autumn in the study or courses line? I still have not heard from the surgen, which is very annoying, but the minute I am allowed , it will be back tot he swimming pool. Hopefully I will be able to get back to swimming every week, which will help me get some exercise in a less painful way, and have to gradually build back up to my 30 lengths a session, which was the most I used to do. They also have a sauna there which I used to use at the end of the swimming. Then I plan to see what computer programmes there are. By that I dont mean learning COBOL or whatever, but want to learn new things and remember previous ideas on how to use it safely, especially with all these wretched scams etc. I also hope there might be a chance to update my phone skills , as although I use my phone for a variety of things, know that there are a lot more things I could do and again safety is the key. My son just about lives on his phone, in terms of being able to do his banking and check up lots of things etc. I want to do more , but again need to be sure that I can do these things safely. In any case, I never want to use it 24/7, or think it is more important than actual people but to be more savvy would be good. I get frustrated using the phone to send messages or text as I am a touch typist and can write very quickly on my lap top, but it takes me ages to use the keyboard on the phone as the things are so close together that it is easy to misspell or hit the wrong keys.

Well folks there is a very little light in the sky and it looks slightly breezy and dry, so time to creak around and start the washer etc. When I write on here i read all the posts that are there and make comments on various things, but of course while I am typing this, other people are sending in posts and I can see how long I have been writing by the amount of posts now ahead of mine but which I have not yet read!

I hope everyone is adjusting to the new month ok and that grandchildren are settling in well at school and now we are able to catch up with friends who have been on childminding duties over the holiday Time to sort bits in the garden and on wet and horrible days get out the seed catalogues ready to begin again. I still have not been able to plant all the various things I have bought as bargains, and think that I shall now have to get someone to do the practical digging and planting for me, but I shall most definitely be in charge as to what goes where. So hope the day goes well for everyone and do factor in a well deserved coffee or tea, and perhaps a catch up with old friends.

Susan56 Thu 04-Sept-25 06:05:28

Thank you Ash.

Gosh I can hardly hear myself think here. It is absolutely pouring and the wind is gusting.
But good morning all from SWWales. Indoors today if this weather continues.
DH had a bit of a fall yesterday. Missed a step when leaving a shop. Managed to get himself home ,but apart from a few grazes is okay. He was quite shocked though. So a quiet day for him to recover.
Have a good day all and I hope better weather than we are having at the moment .

Thinking of you, grandMattie 💐
I hope you can catch up on sleep, Susan56; an important part of keeping you well.

Susan56 Thu 04-Sept-25 05:45:24

grandMattie, thinking of you on this difficult and emotional day for you💐🙏🏻

Ashcombe Thu 04-Sept-25 05:43:28

Good morning from a damp looking Torbay following a day of sunshine and showers yesterday. It is a joy to see the grass looking green again in the park opposite my flat.

Yesterday, Wednesday Club reopened at the theatre with a decent turnout to review The Good Life and share any anecdotes from our summer holidays. I was glad to be back amongst many old friends and a few new ones.

This morning, I have an appointment with the dental hygienist for which I have to go an hour early because they insist on giving me some liquid antibiotic ever since I had surgery to repair a heart valve. There is some risk to my heart should any infection enter the bloodstream.

Happy hump day, folks! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Susan56 Thu 04-Sept-25 05:42:40

Good morning Mick and all to follow from Shropshire.

A rubbish nights sleep🙄It was so nice to have a normal day yesterday picking up the children after their first day back at school then taking DGD to dance. She started learning her dances for the pantomime, Wizard of Oz this year.I was shattered when we got home and went straight to bed resulting in me being awake at silly o’clock this morning.

Today podiatrist this morning then an afternoon of reading and napping.

My thoughts are with Blossoming, Marydoll, soop, FGT’s and all with mountains to climb.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻

grandMattie Thu 04-Sept-25 05:39:21

Good morning from a cool, damp Bristol.
Goodness, MD, you really need to make a complaint against your GP and also difficulty of access, especially for someone with such complex needs. The fact that the GP is new and/or unwell absolutely not your problem.
Yesterday was very busy with the FAB cafe and a TG meeting an hour later. In that interval we had a thunderstorm and rain of biblical proportions. It had stopped by the time I needed to walk to the hall.
When I got home there was a flurry of emails regarding the repairs and Anchor. The resident who has taken it upon himself to deal with our area manager has contacted the MP as well as writing to the next manager up and various complaints departments. Getting really serious now.
I’m supposed to dine with DD but need to confirm.
It’s 4 years today that Philip died, so I’m feeling rather sad. I have refused to go to our neighbour’s funeral this afternoon; it’s just too much for me.
I hope every problem you have is on its way to solution, that you keep safe and have a good day.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
