Good idea to post this.
Personally, it wouldnt help anyone in the slightest with mine.
Mine are several, and very random to say the least.
Put it this way, people laugh at mine!
"I know there are people worse off then me"
I am probably being overly cautious and overthinking this, but having just had my main credit card hacked and used has focused my mind.
Each time we post our favourite book, old fashioned names in family, our favourite this that and the other, gives a would be hacker a helping hand into what may (or may not be) one of our passwords.
We celebrate our GN friends birthdays and anniversaryâs on here daily, it is not beyond the realm of someone with dubious motives to put these little gems of information together and wham bam thank you gran they are in.
It is not my intention to frighten, just to be more careful.
Apologies if I sound like an old worry wort đž

The worst thread for this was "What can you see from your window".
One poster gave the area - the fact that the flat was over Sainburys and over-looking a railway station that was named.
Gobsmacked by so much info. I Googled and found the location within 2 minutes.
Frightening
I worked out quite quickly which town someone lived in, a few months ago.
She had written lots of info.
But what COULD you do with such information really?

Come round and say âGet the kettle onâ âïž

Forget the kettle, a nice glass of a certain rose` would do nicely đ

I thought wine would be better after I had posted.

Steal your identity I guess is the ultimate.
I watched a true documentary once, and that had happened to someone.
I cant remember many details.
Some other oldies will remind us of this but, am I correctly recalling the lovely phoenix had some of her negative comments about her workplace forwarded to her employer
What kind of weird gets off on that kind of behaviour. Somehow identifying the area, the workplace then setting out to cause mayhem..
Yes the alpaca one was the most dreadfully deceitful one I can ever remember.
The poster built up a seemingly idyllic lifestyle on a farm in Norfolk or Suffolk.
She interacted with various posters and on the face of it was totally believable, until the âdaughterâ came on early one morning to say her parents had been killed in a hit and run car crash the night before.
My suspicions were aroused about the speed at which the âdaughterâ posted on here, within hours of her parents supposedly dying.
That was when I knew it was all a hoax.
What was the motive? Who knows.
Some sick character who thought it would be funny to fool a group of grandmothers presumably.
But from a photo youâd have to know which apartment number and the GN userâs real name. I think we can be pretty safe on here providing we change one or two smallish details and proceed with caution.
However, thank you GG13 for making some of us a little more aware. A timely reminder of over-sharing.
You may be interested to know I have just asked Gemini "What can you tell me about "notspaghetti"
First it talks about not being pasta - and then

I remember all that JenniferEccles and being terribly upset. I thought about it for days afterwards. The wonderful bucolic lifestyle that was served up to us daily reminded me of the food feasts and general largesse in the programme âThe Darling Buds of Mayâ. It was superbly crafted over many weeks to draw us in.
âFool me once âŠâ etc.
So it seems you need to trawl threads to find out about me.
...or anyone else for that matter.

The difference being Gemini isnât a hacker.
No that's true. But not casually available by googling and easy AI etc - which I thought someone has intimated earlier.
Like you Jennifer I was immediately suspicious of the âdaughterâ posting that her parents had been killed by a drunken driver the night before - how that level of detail would be known barely 12 hours or so after the âaccident and why âsheâ chose to post so soon afterwards wasnât credible. It was a most unpleasant episode.
Thank you for the reminder GG and I hope the cc hack is resolved very quickly.
I also remember the Alpaca Farm thread. Just after the daughter posted about the sad death of her parents, the son then posted a very angry statement berating the few GNs who questioned why there had been nothing in local newspapers about the accident. He was furious and accused posters of being ambulance chasers. It really was a very convincing thread, honed over months. Lots of GNs were very upset believing that a much loved member had died. Why someone would go to such lengths to manufacture such a story us beyond me, unless it was some educational experiment to show the dangers of social media.

^I havenât told anyone this before but I really live in a massive mansion in Park Lane^
I wasn't going to let on, but I do know you in Real Life and really enjoyed myself when you invited me round for afternoon tea.
Your butler is very handsome, I must say
Aye and I am Anastasia's daughter.
Gransnet and all other human communications would crumple to rubbish if enough lies are told. That is why in most religious traditions, lying is normally considered wrong (a sin or vice), but many also recognize situations where a lie can be the lesser evil or even a duty.
I know Phoenix was a very popular member of GN and her early death was very sad .
However she posted that her employer ,who was easily identified, as she named the place she worked at, was using dating sites.
That was very wrong.
Just as wrong, almost, as the person who told her employer what she had done.
You can see how easily identifiable the employer was in that the information was sent to him.
Both actions wrong in my opinion.
Crikey that all passed me by.
Thereâs something deeply unedifying about contacting a posters employer to cause trouble. Much more ânormalâ to post or pm the poster suggesting they be more cautious. I recall a number of occasions when a new poster has used real family names, identified the area etc, when a number of us have advised the post be removed and replaced without identifying info.
