I like him on UC and I don’t have problems with his diction. Can’t say about anything else he does as I don’t recollect seeing him.

If you think he’s bad (which I don’t) try listening to the BBC World Service, which replaces Radio 4 at night. Some of their presenters are very hard to understand. On the plus side the effort required usually sends me back to sleep very quickly.

I wasn’t sure about him at first but now like him a lot, much more than JP on UC. I enjoyed the programme when he went to India in memory of his father. But I wish people would stop emphasising the A in his name instead of the MOL. My personal hobbyhorse because people often mispronounce my name! Sorry to hijack the thread!

Like others I thought he gabbled his way through his first few episodes of UC but now find him much clearer. He is also a regular presenter on R4 Today programme, also a podcast series called Radical and has done many excellent long interviews on BBC 2 (I especially enjoyed the Tony Blair one). I did find him kind of annoyingly ubiquitous, but have come to respect that he simply works hard, prepares carefully, listens well and always has something interesting to say!

I like him, particularly because he is never condescending to the students, which on times was an issue with Jeremy Paxman. I haven’t had any difficulty understanding what he says.

I’m getting used to him on University Challenge, but I don’t think he’s the ideal presenter. His poor speech was very off putting at first.

He’s alright but a bit of a gabbler. An improvement on U C tho to former presenters.

He's got me watching University Challenge again, he's so lovely to the students. And I really like his TV interviews

I really like him as a UC host.

Not heard him speak in any other situation

Always been a fan, and I think he has worked hard to make his diction clearer.
He does speed through the final few questions of University Challenge. The contestants understand what he is saying, and that is the most important thing. My aging ears can’t always keep up.

UC has certainly got more exciting since he took over. Never thought I’d be on the edge of my seat watching it but I am these days. I missed this weeks but I’ve heard that it was another one that went to the wire?

I actually like him on University Challenge far more than I thought I would.

I didn’t like him on it at first because I thought that he spoke too fast. Either he’s slowed down or I’ve got used to him but I enjoy UC even more than I used to ( as if that was possible). And I think the teams taking part like having him chair it, too. He’s very pleasant and very fair, too.

I have always found him rather brash & cocky He'd probably make a good salesman if the TV work dry's up.

Like Washerwoman I find I like him much more than I thought I would
He seems genuinely pleased when contestants get answers right instead of superior when they get them wrong like Jeremy Paxman was .

But I do wish somebody would give him some help with the pronunciation of French and German words and names in the questions- often they are virtually unrecognisable! !

I have no problem with him ......

I can’t bear this announcer’s voice because he gabbles and runs his words together so I can’t understand him. He also annoys me by saying Ay for the indefinite article, as in ‘I had ay sandwich and ay coffee’, but that’s a personal dislike of mine.
Surely if you work in broadcasting you should speak clearly so listeners can follow what you’re saying?
