I don’t mind my first name at all but I was thinking of other names that I like, too ( I ran out of breeding daughters to name eventually !) .
How about a top 3 ? Just now mine are
Freya
Helen and Isla. One of my grandchildren is Isla, I love it.

I’d love to be called Gabby.
No special reason, I just like the name although I’m quite happy with my own and people often comment on it ☺️

Such a shame none of you said what your name is- which makes it difficult to know why you loved, hated it 😐
My name is Sheila and I have never liked it - and it puts me slap bang in the 50’s 😂
I was in Australia for 7 years and came close to changing it then-for obvious reasons - but I was named after my favourite Aunt - so stuck with it.

I have never liked my name! But stuck with it now!

I was one of the dozens of Susans popular when I was at school. Never liked the name Susan but have always been known as Sue and am happy with that. My mother's name was Alice and I wish I had named one of my daughters Alice but it seemed to be a very old fashioned name at the tame. My daughter always said she would call her daughter Alice but sadly she only had boys.

I love the name Ottilie. It’s not very common-I think I was first aware of it in a book-but it just seems so pretty. You couldn’t surely be unattractive with a name like that (to me anyway). I often feel that if I think of all the people I know with the same name, there will be one characteristic that all of them share. Anyone else noticed that?….

My first name is Lesley, I hate it. I named my daughter Siobhan Pandora and she likes it

I like my name, it's a bit unusual, though not too much so. I didn't like it when I was a child but now I can't imagine myself having any other name. It's me. If I were to have a baby girl to name now, I love the names Wren or Dale. For a boy, Dale, as it's unisex.

I was named after my father so female version of his name. I was to be last child so no son to have his name. He died when I was a child and I'd never change my name but I hate the shortening my family insist on using. I guess after 60 years trying to stop them I just have to accept I e lost that battle.

I have always hated my name really hated it, and never understood why my mother would name me after the next door neighbour who was good to her when I was born.
I never knew anyone else with the same name at school, not from the first day to the day I left. I have had a lifetime of spelling it and so when I was 16 abbreviated it to something similar which I use but my real name still crops up occasionally at the doctors. Yesterday at the solicitors I had the usual comment ‘never heard that before’, I could scream.
I gave my three children simple easy names, Caroline, David and Stephen, still used today as they were 60 years ago, and at age 88 I’ve still never met anyone with my name.

I have an Italian name, both parents were Italian, I am named after my maternal grandmother as are a lot of girls in our family, it wasn't a fashionable name when I was younger but very much so these days.
I also named my daughter a family name . I like that our heritage stays with us.

Rosiebee

Sadly Rosiebee is not my real name which does begin with a B, but I do get called Bee by DH.

DP has a singles record collection ( taking up way too much space🤬) one of which is a song by B Bumble and the Stingers.

When I was about 10 I read a book called Catrin in Wales and I've always loved that name. My father wanted a Welsh name for me - Bronwen- but Mum didn't. Also love Rhiannon and Angharad but can see the disadvantages of forever having to spell out your name for people etc. Think I'll stick with Catrin as my favourite.

I think Rosiebee is a cute name, doesn’t sit well with my surname tho, so may have to change that too 😁

I love nearly all the Irish girls names.

I would've liked Anna, Florence, Orla for myself.

Allira Tue 09-Sept-25 10:56:41

DD has a friend called Caoimhe.

There seem to be a few girls named Niamh nowadays - or at least I thought that was it until it was explained that it was spelt Neeve or Neve!

Lately I love the name Saoirse I just wonder if girls with that name who don't live in Ireland will have a lifetime of being mispronounced (Seer sha) I believe, and having to spell it out continuously.

Several of my relatives have traditional Irish names and all say they spend a lot of time explaining the pronunciation and/or spelling their names.

Grandma70s Tue 09-Sept-25 10:38:10

Ceridwen is a pretty Welsh name.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 09-Sept-25 09:49:51

I have always liked Agatha and Henrietta. Our children have old fashioned traditional names.

One of my grandparents refused to call me by my given name and called me Mary-Anne until they day they died 🤷‍♀️
