I don’t mind my first name at all but I was thinking of other names that I like, too ( I ran out of breeding daughters to name eventually !) .
How about a top 3 ? Just now mine are
Freya
Helen and Isla. One of my grandchildren is Isla, I love it.

My youngest granddaughter, who has a lovely name, is passionate about being called Elizabeth, if we call her by her name, she gives us a look and we have to correct ourselves.
My paternal grandfather had Seven Sisters, all seemed so old fashioned names, but now they are quite cool
Nell
Jane
Kitty
Elsie
Marjorie (maybe not)
Lily
Ada

Yes, I know what you mean. I taught a couple of Rachels and they were all challenging.

I have always disliked my first name it is long and unusual I have never met anyone with the same name.
My siblings all have names which were popular at the time.
I just wanted a normal name like Christine or Susan.

My mother wanted to name me Diane, but my father registered me something different. Apparently, my Mum’s dog was called by my name, before I was born! 😂 Also, my older sister’s middle name is the same as my first name. Not much imagination there! I had aunts called Charlotte, Harriet, Sophie, Maude, Theresa, Dolly. I like Alice, Florence and Freya.

I think there was a Tryphena in the bible?

Ooh, was there? I didn’t know that. I wonder if that’s where his grandma got it from. I never thought to ask her, but wish I had now.

My name really dates me, so many other old woman have my name, but it's rare amongst the young.
I wanted to be called Angela.

I have always liked Agatha and Henrietta. Our children have old fashioned traditional names.

One of my grandparents refused to call me by my given name and called me Mary-Anne until they day they died 🤷‍♀️

Ceridwen is a pretty Welsh name.

Lately I love the name Saoirse I just wonder if girls with that name who don't live in Ireland will have a lifetime of being mispronounced (Seer sha) I believe, and having to spell it out continuously.

Several of my relatives have traditional Irish names and all say they spend a lot of time explaining the pronunciation and/or spelling their names.

DD has a friend called Caoimhe.

There seem to be a few girls named Niamh nowadays - or at least I thought that was it until it was explained that it was spelt Neeve or Neve!

valdavi Tue 09-Sept-25 11:00:42

I love nearly all the Irish girls names.

I would've liked Anna, Florence, Orla for myself.

Victoria
Ophelia
Georgia

When I was about 10 I read a book called Catrin in Wales and I've always loved that name. My father wanted a Welsh name for me - Bronwen- but Mum didn't. Also love Rhiannon and Angharad but can see the disadvantages of forever having to spell out your name for people etc. Think I'll stick with Catrin as my favourite.

I think Rosiebee is a cute name, doesn’t sit well with my surname tho, so may have to change that too 😁

Sadly Rosiebee is not my real name which does begin with a B, but I do get called Bee by DH.

DP has a singles record collection ( taking up way too much space🤬) one of which is a song by B Bumble and the Stingers.
