And they will keep on coming. Shabana Mahmood has her work cut out.

I am perfect and anyone who disagrees is talking utter drivel.

Casdon Sun 07-Sept-25 20:53:51

I didn’t say i was perfect Primrose53, who is - but I can say I have never called another person’s post ‘ utter drivel’ even when I thought it was.

I find a lot of posts on here ‘offensive’ but I’d never stoop to getting them removed. It seems to me that if you’re for unfettered immigration then that’s ok. For others such as myself people find our posts ‘offensive’ and want them removed. No debate allowed just agree or be deleted. Trouble is, in the real world, as we are seeing people won’t be deleted. They’ve found their voices and won’t be silenced. Intimidation tactics don’t and won’t work. People don’t want non documented migrants flooding into this country which is why the government are running scared belatedly.

I imagine your post was removed because it was discourteous woodenspoon. I saw it after it had been deleted, but it was still quoted on a response, and cringed when I saw you had said what another poster had said was ‘utter drivel’. That is really offensive, why not just say ‘I disagree’?

I have seen “utter drivel” used on here countless times. I don’t consider it offensive at all. I noticed one of your posts was deleted the other day so you are not perfect by any means.

Was the number of boats wrong then, Casdon?
Do you disagree with that number?
I was talking about her perspective rather than her post that started the thread - evident from the ‘people who agree with many of us on here’.

So was the number arriving by boat wrong?

Should we not be concerned about the number
without being accused of not caring about the problems of those arriving by boat,
or being worried about those in the UK who are homeless, needing food banks, or unable to afford dental care or get registered with a doctor?

NotSpaghetti Sun 07-Sept-25 20:37:18

No, Gemini just trawls through stuff.

I simply asked it to do so when I could find no evidence of the alarming story.
Someone upthread reminded us all how doctors surgery registration and funding works and explained what might be the grain of truth behind the somewhat outlandish claim.

Oh yes, it was you, Foxie - thank you.

Maybe we need to do as we did in 2nd WW and barracade the beaches they land on. We thought it would stop our enemies back then. Just a thought🤔

Are you aware that some did still get through and that locals had to have licences to use the beaches and go fishing?

Barricading the beaches would be quite a task!

Stopping anyone coming in means stopping people going out too and everyone coming in!

NotSpaghetti Sun 07-Sept-25 20:28:54

Maremia

With so many clever folk on here (no, I am not being sarcastic, there is a wealth of exprience) how do we stop the boats in a legal and humane way?

Having a legal way to apply to come would be a hood start.

That’s not what I said Iam64. Not at all. You’re over reaching here. Nothing about my post was offensive. I leave that to,others.

I found the post offensive which is why I replied to it. And because I included your post my reply was deleted too.

It is probably the case that we see the boat-borne immigrants because Britain is an island. On the continent, immigrants merely walk across the border
That being so does not reduce the problem here. I have no solution to offer.

Iam64 Sun 07-Sept-25 19:28:26

It was deleted so breached gransnet

I’m increasingly bothered by polarisation. The inability to have debate

Clearly I’ve touched a nerve as a post has been deleted. No surprise when you get near the truth.

Well wooden spoon, go straight to a nonsensical conspiracy theory that the gransnet mods are sitting around, waiting to delete “the truth”
I genuinely want debates on gransnet, My impression is even the “ usual suspects” want a debate. I’ve seen no one posting they welcome uncontrolled entry to our country, I’ve seen posts trying to discuss the reality we face, rather than offensive posts

That old chestnut. Would they have compassion for you if they were plotting a terrorist attack?

What percentage do you reckon are plotting terrorist attacks?

Have you any idea how many white home-grown British people have been convicted for (or still being investigated for) terrorist attacks in the UK?

I suggest the sources of danger are already here.

You could well be right but why import more?

The number of "imports" is minimal. The cost of stopping all immigration would be phenomenal. If the aim is to minimise all extremist/terrorist attacks, the best use of resources is to concentrate on those already here.

The quote you provided, sparklefizz which starts with "I'm currently in my final year of GP training,"

sounds just like other fabricated stories that have been circulating online. It is not from a reliable or official source. There is no evidence from credible news outlets, government reports, or professional medical bodies that I can find.

I've just run it through Gemini and this is what it says:

The story has been widely debunked as a hoax or a piece of creative writing designed to spread on social media and forums. The use of specific, unusual, and inflammatory language is a common characteristic of such hoaxes. While the person posting may be a genuine forum user, the story itself is not based on facts.

Just thought I'd share this too.

Sparklefizz. Gemini is not a reliable source. Google it.
If you read what they say “while the person posting may be a genuine forum user, the story itself is not based on facts.”

All that means is they can’t find any facts, or so they say.

Read it! An analysis of the language makes it look like a fake.

From my post at 10.57
My understanding is that the GP contract requires them to treat people living in their area, there is a payment for each patient registered. If GP surgeries refuse to register asylum seekers they are in breech of their contract, when they register an asylum seeker they get paid for that individual. TBH I think "facts" in this case are being presented in a way to inflame people.
