Like everyone else I have had physical pain in my life, but I know that there are many people who live with constant pain. I can hardly imagine how hard that must be and wish I could offer a magic cure. I cannot do that, but do want to share some information which might help - and it is not about more and more pain killers.
These are resources from qualified people and they do not offer instant or magical relief - but they have helped many people and I hope this may help some one at least.

I am not medically trained but these are resources I have learnt about because someone I care about has chronic pain. I hope others will look at these possible ways ahead, make up their own minds, and consider finding a way ahead - and of course if in doubt , consult your doctor.

My knee doesn’t hurt when I’m resting, only when I walk. I wonder is there’s anything I could listen to ( not that, as a technophobe, I know how to access anything like that when I’m walking) that would distract me from the pain when I walk? I do sometimes think that the pain I feel is partly in my mind ( something that does worry me) because sometimes I’ll find myself walking and forgetting about it.

My friend recommended a knee strap for support, rather than a full knee support.
I had an operation before I had chance to try one.

Knee straps make it worse. I have a patella strap and a full knee support but they just make the inside of my knee hurt even more ( it’s like a stabbing pain, especially if I take a wrong step).

I'll click on the links tomorrow.
I too live with chronic pain due to crumbling vertebrae.

I have had a Quick Look through that info, will have good read when I go to bed shortly.
Anything that helps with pain naturally, must be a good thing, surely.
After having ten cortisol injections in each knee which has contributed to severe osteoarthritis, from very mild osteoarthritis, (told this by my orthopaedic surgeon definitely not to have anymore.
Volterol suppositories, which I am on can contribute to heart trouble & kidney disease, but I can’t manage without them.
So if I can find anything natural that will work wonders, I am willing to give it ago.
So thanks Applegran for that information 👍🏻

I’m also in constant pain , I haven’t time to read the links at the moment, but will do tomorrow.

Thank you Eloethan I just clicked on the link you provided and have skimmed what it comes up with and it looks really interesting and helpful - well worth a read for anyone with on going pain.

keepingquiet I do a search on user name if I’m not sure.

Wow! Didn't know you could do this! Can I search myself?

It must be so exhausting and depressing to suffer chronic pain, and any ideas that might aid in reducing pain should be available to people for whom this is a serious issue.

A Report by British Journal of Medicine suggests that research has demonstrated music can be helpful in decreasing pain. Obviously, it cannot be the only tool to alleviate pain but, for anyone interested, this is the link:

Nanato3 I do hope something in those links helps you. I know your pain is very real and much real pain which is ongoing does not get resolved with painkillers - those links in the post could make a real difference for you and I greatly hope they do.

MayBee70 Mon 08-Sept-25 18:56:26

I agree. It was a genuine mistake. And we do get so many posts that are pure advertising these days.

Applegran Mon 08-Sept-25 18:49:09

I want to say to keepingquiet that when she reported this post she was doing what she honestly believed was appropriate and I am really fine with that. As it turned out she had misunderstood the rules - something any of us could do. I hope keepingquiet will feel ok about it and not stay too quiet for too long. I wish her well.

Apologies but it seemed like advertising to me.

I have no idea how long individual posters have been here, and I thought advertising by providing links was not allowed.

At least it wasn't promoting Amazon!

I very rarely report posts and will certainly not be doing so again.

Lesson learned- maybe there should be an indication as to how long posters have been on the site, because it would seem length of time here makes a difference?

If you put a posters name in the search engine you can see previous posts they have made throughout the years.

Nanato3 Mon 08-Sept-25 17:35:28

I live with chronic 24/7 pain that doesn't respond to painkillers.
I will have a read. Thank you for posting this.

I was in chronic pain for 10 months whilst waiting for surgery, I had to be clear of infection before they could operate.

I was on a cocktail of drugs and felt dire.

I managed to continue to work through most of it and I still had 1 child at home so I was very busy, I think for me that was the key.

I ate well, didn’t drink alcohol and tried to get some exercise although that was a challenge.

When I finally had the surgery and came off the drugs, I cannot tell you how different I felt, it really was like a miracle.

I hadn’t slept properly in all the 10 months so having a full nights sleep was absolute joy.

I have never taken good health for granted since.

Shhh, don't tell anyone but the books are available on the Big River website if you are unable to get to an actual bookshop.

Other retailers available too.

Fidelity2 Mon 08-Sept-25 15:52:15

I take pain killers but only when I feel that I cant manage without them. You don't have to take the full recommended dose.

Applegran, thank you for sharing, I too support someone who lives with chronic pain as a result of an accident.

Aveline Mon 08-Sept-25 13:54:55

Thank you

Applegran Mon 08-Sept-25 13:48:09

Thank you all for your reassurances.

KellyGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 08-Sept-25 13:42:55

Just hopping on to say we don't have a problem at all with Applegran posting these links - she's a long-term member of the site and just posting to be helpful to other members who may be living with constant pain.

cornergran Mon 08-Sept-25 13:24:39

No need to report. Applegran is not a new poster and is trying to be helpful.

The links are to a range of approaches to coping. Chronic pain may not come with a clear diagnosis and not be eased by medication/surgery. That doesn’t mean the pain isn’t real and sometimes it can be helped by a range of other approaches as I have discovered over the last 35 years.
