McMillan Nurses were not very helpful (or even nice!) when my Mum was in the late stages of her cancer diagnosis. I was so upset as I imagined it must be something we had done (or not done) that made them so very off-hand. At least I now know, thanks to some of the posts on this thread, that others have received the same treatment from them. Hard to believe that some are unhelpful and unsympathetic when dealing with families who are going through one of the worst times of their lives.

MacMillan nurses were brilliant for DD1 during her breast cancer treatment.

Thank you so much for thinking of us FGT. You and himself seem to be in a good place at the moment. Sending love as always.

merlotgran Tue 09-Sept-25 17:50:55

They were no help to me either. Thank goodness for the district nurses and Hospice at Home who were wonderful.

Georgesgran

Pleased you’re being supported FGT.

Not really the place, but Macmillan? Useless - wouldn’t give them house room!

Me neither. They refused point blank to have anything to do with us when they heard that the hospice was involved.
I was so very hurt. Never told DH, who had been giving them money for very many years.

Fgt hugs to you both

Our MacMillan nurse in An Angel in Disguise. The day she came (pre-arranged) she immediately suspected sepsis.
Thank goodness. But for her …

Usedtobeblonde Tue 09-Sept-25 15:38:06

I hope you are getting good support from McMillan nurses.
FGT
I don’t like to think it but it seems to vary around the country.
Two very good friends of mine living close to me ,found them very unhelpful.
No support and offhand in their attitude.
Not at all what was needed at a very difficult time.
One was for herself and one was for her H.
You need only the best you can get.

Georgesgran Tue 09-Sept-25 14:32:21

Look after yourselves FGT ❤️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 14:27:10

Two wonderful nurses came.
“Do you feel ready for our support at this stage?”
Himself: “Not yet but thank you. It’s good just to be on your books for when needed.”
“That’s fine - we will leave you in the capable hands of your MacMillan nurse with district nurse involvement as and when. We will see you at some point. Just not yet. And you never know - you’ve come through so much this summer that seeing us again might even be some time off yet.” 🤞

A very heartening visit.
Himself is fast asleep now. Reassured and relaxed.

Life continues. And we are grateful for it. x

merlotgran Tue 09-Sept-25 14:25:12

FGT I hope Hospice at Home lifts a large part of the weight from your shoulders as they did for me.
Thinking of you.

grandMattie Tue 09-Sept-25 13:36:45

FGT, we had the same in Kent. Also, the district nurses were fabulous.
All the best. Enjoy the creeping autumn. 🍂🫂❤️

Usedtobeblonde Tue 09-Sept-25 12:06:24

FGT my friend and her family got the best help possible from Hospice at Home.
I hope you get the same care and support.
Kindest thoughts to you both and yes it is a beautiful day here in our area.
We must make the most of it.

Grannydaisy1 Tue 09-Sept-25 11:38:36

Fgt lovely to hear from you. Hope you get all the help you need. Take care you and himself

Good morning everyone.

Happy Anniversary to you both peli 🥂

I loved it at Bamburgh. We went a couple of times while in the area.

Lots of walking (for me) done yesterday while shopping. In and out of the car at different stores car parks etc. I was pleased to get everything (including new curtains which I’ve been faffing about with for a couple of years) and glad to get home.
Today I’ll have a day garden pottering as it looks like the last fine day for a while.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 10:03:53

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where we have a beautiful sunny day ahead. A lady from Hospice@Home is coming to see us this afternoon.

Fabulous photos today ladies! And peli is marvellous to hear of nature, meals and weather over on the Mississippi coast. Such interesting posts from you to add to the flavour of this friendly thread. Thank you.

Georgesgran Tue 09-Sept-25 09:24:55

Good morning from a glorious, sunny Durham - blue sky and not a breath of wind. I hope it’s the same up in beautiful Bamburgh for MD.
It’s my empty, but I’ll potter in the house, garden and garage today.

Best wishes to all. X

BlueSapphire Tue 09-Sept-25 09:16:57

Happy anniversary Peli! 🎂🎁🍾🎉

Marydoll Tue 09-Sept-25 09:11:01

I told DH we were going to Bamberg, which I visited many years ago.
It is in Bavaria!!

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton; pleased that there was no need to get up at some ungodly hour this morning! I like a no-rush morning.

A pleasant day yesterday, yoga followed by coffee and chat, then home to a few chores. Changed the bed, got the bedding washed and dried, then cleaned the en-suite. Had ordered new cushion covers which arrived on Sunday; they were dreadfully creased and the fabric stiff, so I gave them a quick wash and hung them out on the line, which did wonders.
They look very nice in my sitting room, a splash of Autumn colour.

Did a bit of gardening in the afternoon, tied up the climbing rose and removed overgrown stems from the jasmine. Filled the holes again that the foxes had dug; doubt whether that will deter them!
A friend from yoga texted me with the name of another recommended gardener, so I will see if he can help me next time I'm needing work done. I will not be using the ones who did the garden at the weekend again.

A bit of pottering this morning then out to join the walking group after lunch.

Will go back now and catch up with everyone's news.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Another lovely day here.
I woke at 6am with the alarm set for last week and went back to sleep.
I shall go into Edinburgh today and look at clothes and wool shops.

Some lovely photos this morning. Thanks and congratulations Peli

Did you mean Bamburgh Castle Marydoll? Enjoy your day with no mishaps!

Have a good day everyone as best you can.

ginny Tue 09-Sept-25 08:13:19

Good morning from a sunny skied N.Bucks.
Off for lunch with three friends today which usually takes up three hours or so. This evening the WI sewing group are meeting to start assembling our project for Armistice day.
Happy anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays and hope all who are under par find some relief. A good day wished for all.

Grandmabatty Tue 09-Sept-25 08:09:31

Madeleine I get new couches delivered on Sunday! The boys will be reduced to "standing room only" or in the kitchen only! 😂

merlotgran Tue 09-Sept-25 08:06:10

Good morning everyone from the south coast where blue sky is approaching from the west.
This morning will be busy with a U3a classical music group meeting at 10.30 and then my food shop. I’m a little apprehensive because I’m still a bit under par from the virus last week and my energy levels suddenly plunge. It’s only a short walk from the car park but I’ve not been out for a week. I’ll probably spend the afternoon flaked out!
Hope everyone has the best possible day.
