Disposing of documents

If you do decide to get a shredder, make sure its a cross cut one so it cuts into little pieces rather than long 'shreds' that could be pasted together again to get person information.

I just rip paperwork up into small pieces. I like the idea of soaking it in water as suggested here so will start doing that too.

I use our shedder weekly. Perhaps buy a shredder.

You can buy scissors that cut into shreds, although this would be less useful for a large amount.

Papier mache makes other things but in a flat might be an effort to get dry.

Shredder and then put in several different recycling bins so they can not be pieced back together. Yes, I know I'm over cautious !

I'm a compulsive shredder too! Moved house recently, and had to dispose of loads of redundant paper-work., Shredding rather therapeutic actually!

I just put them in the recycling. Shredding and soaking mean they can’t be recycled.

I gave up with our shredder, it is confined to the attic, it was constantly jamming, despite my being careful and only feeding one paper through at a time 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤬

In the past, all waste paper went on the fire. These days, we have to find an alternative. I shred all of mine and then use the paper in my animals cages.

Our council don’t want shredded paper in with the recycling, apparently it jams up the machines.

It has to go in the general waste.

Please check your area, you may find it’s the same where you are.

I've already said that a confidential waste disposal company is coming to take it away. £5 per bag plus VAT. Minimum number of bags 10.

Ours go in the compost 'dalek'. Sorry, that's no help to Aveline.

We take ours to a company that deals with confidential waste.
A very large bag full is £8.00.

If you’ve got a lot, you can get a shredding service to collect the. A neighbour of ours recently got rid of a couple of big bagfuls.

We had boxes and boxes of old papers after we did a pre-house-move decluttering. Far too much to deal with ourselves. We took them to a licenced waste disposal company, they charged £9 a box, in 2022. It was well worth the money and it was quite interesting to see inside a big recycling centre!

We bought a second hand shredder from an Oxfam shop.

Someone gave it away because they jam. 😱
