Chocolate Christmas tubs down to 4.70p

Strictly on TV last night; Christmas chocolate selection tubs this morning.....All I need to hear now is that some have bought their Christmas cards. I'm still mourning the end of this year's Wimbledon....

Last year, a boy collected hundreds of the plastic tubs and got them recycled. I hope he does it this year. Good luck to him

I like the plastic tubs as I use them to plant my indoor bulbs in. The tub fits nicely inside my silver punch bowl. I usually make up 3 tubs through the winter and rotate them so always have flowers in bloom

That is a brilliant idea. I don't have a silver punch bowl but I do have lots of acrylic paint! Xx

I know this is a little off point, but the excellent Dylon machine dyes are in a very hard plastic container, and they don't need to be. I've collected a number of them to play with grandchildren (acrylic pens) for growing plants in (drill a hole in the base).

Yes I’d pay more for a non plastic container

So would I big time. Something either recyclable or of course Card board, I do not buy plastic unless it's good for something like the microwave or a plain plastic storage box, or plastic that can be recycled. (No facilities locally for what they describe as "hard" plastics and its rare to find it)

Why cant they simply put them in a tasteful card box?

I should not be eating any as a diabetic and in any case, none of them interest me as I have always been a dark chocolate fan, so will walk past with very little temptation to buy them. In our house as achild it was the biscuit tins that became the cake tins of the future, as a mixed choice biscuit tin was the special christmas treat we had. Between us all the biscuits were enjoyed, and each family member liked different ones, so they then progressed to being in the pantry filled with various cakes my mum used to make from fruit cakes to parkin. No freezer then so she would sometimes hide a cake she wanted to keep in a lower tin with other empty ones over the top and then the top with some common thing like scones or buns to keep us from delving deeper. Didnt work well though!

Got a tub from Tesco few weeks ago and noticed this week the size in new tubs reduced by 40grams in time for Christmas. Will not be buying anymore.

I have bought a ‘tin’ of Celebrations for £4.50 every week now since they have dropped to last year’s Christmas Clubcard price. Everyone in our family likes some and not others and they all get eaten on the Jack Sprat and his wife principle.

The other brands like QS and Cadbury’s are not so nice these days.

Bought one to put away but of course it got opened. It must have been left over from last Xmas as the chocolate had a bloom on it.

They just don’t taste the same anymore - I don’t buy them.

At my Morrisons they are presently £6 up from £5 last year

The Roses glass jar was also brilliant for storage with its screw on lid.

I think the ones I saw are tin.. Morrisons, had them priced at £4.50 I went to get another one a week later,, now £6... wonder what price they will be next week.

I now go along to M&S and buy packets of Devon Toffees for my husband and Percy pigs for my son and grandchildren plus Marzipans for me.
Everyone is happy and they all get eaten.

Brilliant idea! Also if you have kept any of the containers QS and the like came in, you could keep your selection in there. I always think it’s very Christmassy to have a selection tin of sweets/chocolates on the coffee table at Christmas!

Quality Street tubs have a very poor selection these as. Not many of the known favourites and plenty of the nots I-popular ones. I won’t be buying them this year. I was disappointed with last year’s but have seen the tin my neighbour bought this week and was appalled by the lack of decent chocolates, as was she.
So, Gransnetters, perhaps you should find an alternative this year. If enough people avoid buying QS for a while, they will surely notice and maybe increase the quality and content (in time for Christmas? Fat chance, but we can live in hope!)

Far too many of the horrible orange and strawberry creams in them and not enough of the more tasty options for me to consider buying a tub these days.

To me the quality has dived and I stopped buying them a couple of years ago.

I’m with you Sandye what with shrinkflation and recipe tweaking of long established products and the overall poorer quality of fresh foods in the major supermarkets, I’m fed up with feeling ripped off!! We are being treated with utter contempt in that we will just accept anything.

I would prefer tin to plastic. But like Sandye I'm getting fed up of paying more and getting less these days.
