Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but dry start to the day here in Brackley this morning.
My usual plans as to getting the bus to Bicester , I pay the £3 fare one way ,and return on my bus pass thanks to the 0930 start in the week .
Do a shop and chat to people i know either through former work or just friends .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Sorry Gingster that sounds disheartening, I hope it’s not as bad as you think 💐

Grandmabatty Thu 18-Sept-25 14:22:46

Thanks Susan. He coming home tomorrow morning and joining dd and I for lunch.

Susan56 Thu 18-Sept-25 13:34:31

I’m so sorry your day to see your son ended in car trouble Grandmabatty.Glad you are safe and the garage can fix your car.

Crossstitchfan Thu 18-Sept-25 13:08:03

Thanks to all of you who have sympathised with my silly goings-on. It makes such a difference when people send words of support.
Thankfully, my years of shift-work and accompanying sleep disruption and occasional deprivation have taught me to cope, and I can manage to carry on even if I have had a sleepless night. It’s a small inconvenience compared to what others are going through on here and my heart goes out to them.
As for the other stuff, it will all get sorted in the end. In fact, my son-in-law has just offered to help me choose a new printer, as the one I have now, and wanted to replace with the same, has been discontinued. It’ll all come out in the wash, but I do feel a lot better with all the sympathy I have had from my friends on G’net. You are all lovely.
Hope you all manage to have as good a day as possible. 🥰

Best laid schemes o nice and men, gang aft agley
I was on the road to St Andrews, just outside Forestmill, when there was an almighty racket. I limped along for a bit but had to stop. I thought it was a tyre, however it was my exhaust which had fallen off and got stuck under the car. Fortunately a lovely man in a van stopped and whacked it free with a hammer. I drove home, heart in mouth, sounding like a tank. Kwik Fit are unable to help but my local garage can fix it on Monday. So a disappointment for me and ds.

Good Morning from a bright, breezy Durham. Another with a disturbed night - I didn’t go to bed until after 3am, as I wasn’t tired, lay awake until 6, then I fell asleep, just as there were peach streaks in the East. Still, it doesn’t bother me at all and I’ll have a normal day.
There’s some drama here as the new owners of a property have submitted plans for a rear extension - no objections there, but they then intend to install black window frames and paint the render white - all the other houses have kept to brown windows and cream render, so it’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

Pleased you’ve had your operation kitty and hope you make a good recovery. You’ll need some TLC at home.
I read MD’s update yesterday and today, it sounds reassuring that things are finally moving forward.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. 12°here and blowing a hoolie.
I have a friend staying and there's to be a piano exchange today so I've been moving furniture to try to make space.

I have skimmed through this morning's news and my thoughts are particularly with crosstitchfan, kitty and Marydoll

I hope today goes well.

harrigran Thu 18-Sept-25 08:54:03

Good morning from a dry but grey NE.
Heating been on since 6 am so must be cool.
SIL and I went shopping, I managed despite still feeling unwell.
After lunch SIL began setting up my new computer, hopefully everything I need is there.
This afternoon my sister and BIL are going to visit, haven't seen them for a while as they have been on holiday.
Get well soon kitty.

merlotgran Thu 18-Sept-25 08:49:45

Good morning all from a dull south coast. Definitely a day to be getting on with cupboard clearing.
Yesterday I went shopping with DD for some plastic storage containers for the cupboard of doom! Hopefully there will be some semblance of order later today. We also took unopened packets and tins of dog food to the nearby Blue Cross pick up point. I feel much better knowing that Peggy’s unrequired supplies will benefit somebody. Tesco delivery this afternoon.
Get well soon, kitty Take it easy!
Hope everyone has a good day. Best wishes to marydoll and FGT and anyone with challenges.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a greyish morning, with a slight breeze but fingers crossed a look of possible sun coming out. But it is a lovely day whatever! I didnt have a much longer sleep , but oh it was a better sleep and everything seems so much better and I feel up to facing whatever the day brings. Still the usual aches and pains, but moving a bit better, I am showered with hair washed and washing in churning around in the background. All by 7.30am. This is more like me, not taking until 10am to be even dressed etc.

Yesterday was enough to try the patience of a saint (have never been that anyway!) I was in such a lot of pain, it took me ages to get up and get going. I rang the garage and he said he had ordered a tyre for me, but they didnt have one in so he would ring when it arrived and I could take the car down to be sorted. Everywhere was in total disarray from the day before and actually , although I was clock watching and longing for him to ring, it did allow me to plod slowly through some housework and some papers etc. I had a very annoying phone call, where firstly the blasted automatic robot stupid thing kept offering me 3 options but no hold on for a human. Of course the thing I needed to speak about was not one of the three options. Extremely annoying, whatever I tried to do, and in the end had to put the phone down, count to 10 and then ring the complaints department as the only number showing where I might get to speak to someone. Then I was asked various security questions, which I understand the need for , but got a blank about something and obviously gave the wrong answer. One of my security questions has a very unusual answer, and so the person said that they were sure that I was who I said I was but unfortunatly I had given a wrong one and so they couldnt deal with it. Grr Grr. Had to leave it as was due to be somewhere, so another load of time wasted. But it has reminded me to go through various things and check my passwords etc., as this was something I havent used for a very long time, and whilst am up to date with those I use and change regularly this one hasnt been updated for a very long time.

Was getting a bit fidgety, as I had planned to either go to see Downton Abbey in ~Thirsk or go to the disabled swimming, to try and iron out a few wrinkles and be able to stand upright in the water. However still no car done so stuck. Then he rang to say tyre arrived and he could fit me in at 3pm. So that meant going to neither but never mind, was only too pleased to get the car sorted. So took the car down and checked in with the pleasant young man, who added to his good efforts on my behalf, by rescuing my good knitted jacket which had managed to catch in the zip end of my handbag. I had had to carefully wriggle out of the jacket and carry it bunched up with the bag, as I didnt want to break the thread but needed three hands to be able to sort it out. Another tick for the Halfords man, between us we managed to sort it without breaking the thread. So gave him the keys, and hobbled round to cafe Nero, where I was able to have some coffee and look through my post which had just arrived as I set out for the garage. Time went on and then he rang to say it was ready . The most painful bit then was £180 to pay for it. Not been my week has it between that and the glasses!!

Anyway it was too late to go to anything, but a friend had rung and asked if I would take her place at a charity quiz night as she couldnt go. I have done gardening quiz's both taking part and making up the questions, and follow things like university challenge and mastermind, but not done this sort , so said dont know if I will be any good at it, certainly not if it is stuff like celebrities and pop music, but she said it was varied. Decided that I would go and so leaving the shambles behind off I went. I only knew my friends mum, in the group, but we were a pleasant group of women and we did quite well in the quiz. Geog, His, and general knowledge were my cup of tea as they say, and I did quite well in a sort of odd information round, particularly pleasing my group by knowing that a spurtle or spirtle is the stick you stir porridge with! We didnt win any prizes, but it had been a good evening, with pleasant company, got my brain working in other directions than doctors and car disasters, and think that actually, it did let me come back in a better frame of mind, and just had some juice and my tablets and went to bed. Didnt get off to sleep quickly - not expecting miracles - but nevertheless had a better night.

So here I am and the day is brightening, hopefully will be able to get the washing out. Dont know what is on at the meeting today, need to find out. I have so much to catch up on, and want to get things ready for going to Stokesley show on saturday, check out the picnic box etc, finally get the casserole finished which is still sat in the fridge, but cant remember if it is the yoga lady today. That gives me such a help, somehow although I have done yoga for years, I find someone else reminds you of things you havent done for ages, or has a good idea of how you can get round positions that you cant do any more. Will have to ring a friend and check. Anyway apart from having had to pay out £400 in two days, cringe cringe, I am happy and grateful for a better day. I hope that you all are starting a good day too.

Mick , hope you get to meet lots of friends. Here bus passes are only valid after 9.30am , but you can go earlier if you have a hospital appointment. Of course, especially up the dales, you need to set off quite early if you need to get to Middlesborough or somewhere, so that is why that is allowed, which makes sense. GrandMattie, the cranberry marmalade sounds nice, never tried that. Well done keeping up the pressure on the Teflon kid. (do you remember the advert for the Milky Bar Kid? You could imagine teflon kid with a saucepan on his head, which you could beat a tattoo on with a wooden spoon!) Ginny, well done not to have been caught by the wretched scammers. It is so horrible that we now have to be distrusting of any phone calls these days. I am sorry for people like the receptionists from the dentist , who have to ring you and get a very curt "yes, who are you" from me if I am not expecting their call. Kittylester, do hope that you are feeling a bit better, now that the operation is behind you. I hadnt seen your post about going in for this. I am sure you will be much better without the awful stones, having experienced a horrible episode of a gallstone and I was flying home at the time. Ugh! Horrible, so you will at least be relieved of the worry of such things happening again. Hope that you get home soon and can begin to recuperate. However well you are treated and looked after, getting into your own bed is a great relief isnt it? Susan56 I bet the man who had your husbands coat felt rather reluctant to return to his old one! Sounds like a scene from a Marx brothers film doesnt it? Hope you have a lovely day with your old friends.

In fact I wish everyone a pleasant day and hope that whatever their aims for the day, they manage to do at least some of them. Of for much needed coffee and see how the washer is progressing. Take care of yourselves and enjoy your day

hollysteers Thu 18-Sept-25 08:16:40

Good morning from Sunnyside northwest coast. DS was here yesterday and carried on with a few jobs, which I really appreciate. In the evening, my first opera company meeting after a break from them for over ten years and it was lovely to meet up with long standing friends. Interesting new repertoire too with the new conductor, rather than the old warhorses I’m rather tired of now.
After the rehearsal, a few of us went for a drink and a catch up, so I was late home and tired today.

The plumber said he will pop in today to assess what he needs to do for my hidden slow leak🙄 and the decorator starts next week for the bedroom. I’ve chosen a pale blue stripe wallpaper and am thinking of a beach theme as I’m half in and out of the dunes.
Hope you are making a good recovery kitty and thoughts to all🌺

ginny Thu 18-Sept-25 08:15:03

Good morning. Dull but not too cold here in N. Bucks.
Last evenings theatre visit was good, I won’t say enjoyable as it was a ghost mystery called 2.22 and really made us jump out of our chairs several times but certainly worth watching.
This morning our electricity meter is being changed and the window cleaner is coming. DH has just said he will clean the insides , wow, that doesn’t happen very often. I will make a birthday card for DGS1.
Sewing club this afternoon and then my first free evening of the week.
Glad your appointment went well Marydoll and pleased too hear Kitty is recovering well. Thought with other poorlies. A good day wished for all.

baubles Thu 18-Sept-25 08:14:25

Good morning from dry (so far) South Lanarkshire.

After food shopping yesterday we dropped in to see my BiL and wife. Their house is much quieter now as their daughter in law and children have returned to their own home but they both look years older. Their grief is still so raw.

I just can’t understand what’s happening, last evening our friend called in to tell us that the same thing has befallen his family, a nephew in his forties has taken his life.

Today is our day for the school pick up over in the Capital, I’ve missed the children as we were away last week. I’ve made a spicy red pepper and tomato pasta sauce for their evening meal.

Happy to hear that your appointment wasn’t as bad as you had feared MD.

Get well soon Kitty.
Ash very well done to your DD.

Wishing everyone, especially those feeling under par for whatever reason, a good day.

glammagran Thu 18-Sept-25 08:08:44

Good morning from a dull, dreary Wiltshire.

GC’s were in high spirits at school pickup yesterday. GS2 has settled happily into Reception. They played together very well for a change. But it was all change when we dropped them off. We were trying to talk to DD2 and her husband but they wouldn’t stop screaming and DH walked out. They never tell the kids off and their behaviour can be appalling at times.

Our front lawn which was only turfed last year has been utterly decimated while we have been away by Corvids. Nobody else’s has been touched. Our back lawn is fine too. Not at all sure why.

I’m sorry to hear about your illness Kitty. I wish you a very speedy recovery. Don’t overdo it! I hope MD has some answers before too much longer.

Have a good day everyone.

EkwaNimitee Thu 18-Sept-25 08:03:29

Good morning Mick and everyone from greyish Carlisle.
It didn't rain all day yesterday after all, it was dry by lunchtime.
I managed to get outside and plant my remaining tulip bulbs, only a large bag of crocuses are left to go in now...into the lawn, so rather harder work!
Today, I'm about to go out for a walk, assuming the clouds don't suddenly open. I looked at my body in the full length mirror this morning and was depressed by the sight...it's the wretched steroids causing weight gain which, seemingly, I have to put up with until I stop taking them...in the indefinite future.
Whether the exercise helps, I know not though I definitely feel fitter by upping my daily steps.

I hope you're soon home and recovering rapidly. kitty. Rather a shock for you to suddenly find yourself on the operating table.

Have a good day everyone if you can.

Liberty Thu 18-Sept-25 08:03:17

Good morning from a bright Suffolkwhere I have my stretch class soon. I’m meeting a friend for lunch before a pedicure and have decided, since I don’t imagine there will be many more sandal wearing days,to give my toe nails a rest from polish.

Having said that, perhaps we will have more sunny days and I’ll regret this decision.

Good to hear Kitty that your operation went well, and you’ll be home very soon…..always the best place to be to rest and recover.

Gingster Thu 18-Sept-25 08:02:09

Good morning all and it’s warm and overcast here in Essex.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at the eye clinic in the hospital and results of all my tests were not good. Glaucoma isn’t responding to drops and other conditions are evident. I was quite shocked.

Today little dog has the groomers, while I shop .it will be a big one as I haven’t been for a few weeks. Just been topping up at our local independent shops.

GG that’s a long time to be without your kitchen. Perhaps this is the time to *fly away’ somewhere.

Best wishes to all who are struggling one way or another. 🍂🍁.

Morning from a dull but dry St Austell.
Good luck pantglas the three envelopes left in CtA were 6, 25 and 40, my daughter chose 6 (she bought a new TV yesterday).

Beach day today, off exploring.
Hopefully out soon kitty and some tlc at home.
Enjoy your day all if you can, if not, may you have a gentle one.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry and bright but very windy
It’s so difficult when you can’t sleep crossstitchfan, seems like you’ve lots on your mind, I hope tonight is much better for you
Pleased the op is over now kitty time to rest and recover for a while
I’ve a volunteering session this morning, then I think I’ll meet up with DH for a coffee somewhere. I’ll be home this afternoon and then I’m looking forward to a FitSteps dance class at the gym this evening.
Ginny how stressful for you, hope you get the door problem resolved quickly and thanks for the useful information on the scam call
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Thu 18-Sept-25 07:35:16

I am also saying goodbye to two GDs over the next two weeks as they go off to University, we chatted and shopped a lot and I shall miss them.

Hope you get home soon kitty
Best wishes

Ashcombe Thu 18-Sept-25 07:27:44

Sorry, Grandmabatty, that should say son! 🙄

cornergran Thu 18-Sept-25 07:26:36

Morning Mick, morning All from a mild, windy, cloudy corner of Somerset.

Rain showers are forecast for most of the day, a shame as it would be good to get out and tidy the garden. My out in all weathers Dad used to call me a fine weather gardener, I’ve seen no need to change that way of being.

I felt rough all day yesterday, part tiredness and part I have no idea what as my legs were like cotton wool while my head pounded. Today seems more hopeful, the chilli will be made as will a couple of phone calls. There are photos to put away, I’m mid 2024 now so the end is nigh, bits to store in the loft, a new jigsaw to bring down for Mr C. Just normal things that seemed far too difficult yesterday.

Pleased your surgery is over kitty, sounds as if you’ll soon be home. Thinking of everyone managing health or other challenges.

Hope Thursday is kind to us all.

Ashcombe Thu 18-Sept-25 07:26:23

Good morning from a dreary looking Torbay although it isn’t raining at the moment.

This is a late start for me because I slept heavily following a demanding evening at choir practice. By working on it at home, I am starting to get to grips with the music from Bach's B Minor Mass and beginning to enjoy the challenge.

In the afternoon I attended a most interesting talk given by one of our Toads members who is a member of the sensory team who support people with hearing or vision loss. He is an excellent actor, so was good at delivering information in a compelling manner.

Poor you, Crossstichfan! I hope you can catch up on sleep at some point today.

Safe travels, Grandmabatty to St.Andrews. A special day for you catching up with your brother.

Thank you for the kind comments yesterday about the success of my Headteacher DD2. She works very hard and is well organised at school and at home, unlike me!!

I hope this is a good day for all, whatever befalls. 🦩💐🦩💐🦩

karmalady Thu 18-Sept-25 07:24:44

Good morning from s somerset, mixed bag weather today and sun during the afternoon

I have an hour of free electricity at 2 so will strip my bed this morning, the sheets will dry outside after their wash

I am still being cautious with my mouth, nerve pain is horrible and so are the aches from the procedure, I can keep my mouth calm most of the time but it was tough again last evening. I am drinking hot tea through a straw just now. It will resolve, I am a good healer but it takes time

*Ginny*, last house, the big patio doors were installed back to front by the builder, it was later pointed out by the eco window suppliers. The builder had to order new doors, which cost him a bomb and it took time as they were made to order. You have `fit for purpose` on your side. It looks as though the installers are going to fight you so start the file process, every bit of paperwork and e mail that you can find. The small claims court will be your friend provided you can get evidence together. If the request was yours then the installer would have to provide the evidence. If he cannot do that then you would likely win the case

Today I carry on similar to yesterday when I did a lot of gansey knitting but first ocado is coming, not lots of items but all are offers on items I store such as good organic coffee beans

I feel cosy after a good sleep last night and warm nightwear, I want that cosiness to continue today

Have a good day
