Good morning from South Lanarkshire where the sun is shining from a clear blue sky.

We took the children to a local dairy farm yesterday. They could see the Jersey cows which produced the milk we then bought from the machine after they’d had their hot chocolate sitting outside. They enjoyed it unlike one of their cousins who pronounced it too smelly when we took her in the summertime.

DH is overseeing breakfast with them at the moment. I’ll walk down to Mass later and we’ll take them home after lunch. I hope their parents feel the benefit of having had the house to themselves for a couple of days.

Thoughts to all those who’ve been affected by worry, sadness or illness.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is out. I don’t know how it dares to show its face after abandoning us yesterday to horrendous rain, which flooded roads and made them a nightmare to cross on foot. I was trying to get home from visiting a friend in hospital and the weather and traffic congestion in the area were so bad they took the busses out of service! I had to ring DD and beg a lift. I was wet through, dripping on their new leather upholstery😱! When I got home I got a message to say the decorator can’t now come until Wednesday. I was tired, hungry and spitting feathers.
DD and SiL are coming this afternoon to take down curtains and move the last items of furniture needed to clear the rooms which are being painted (eventually🙄). I shall cook us a roast chicken dinner, and an apple pie. It will be odd not to have GS at the table and I’m sure every mouthful will stick in my throat until I get used to him being at uni.

Good morning from a much brighter Black Country, where it rained and rained most of yesterday! Scuppered plans for going for a walk.

Popped to town to buy some Euro's for our Skiathos trip Wednesday, and signed up for a cash card where you can use an App and put Euro's on from your phone. Then a brunch of Poached Egg on Smoked Salmon with wilted Spinach. The a lovely meal last night of Beef Cheeks, courtesy of M & S.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes yesterday, much appreciated. MrJ bought me a trip to see Sunny Afternoon in Birmingham in October (a musical based on music by The Kinks).

Looking forward to lunch today with the family, as the birthday celebrations stretch to a second day

Then perhaps a start on packing later today.

Good morning from a sunny and calm Torbay for a change!

Last night we both were stewards on front of house at our theatre for a performance of The Hollow as part of The Agatha Christie festival. The theatre has seen a week of virtually full houses for a very good production. We thought that the female characters were stronger in general but that reflects the demographic of the membership which gives the director greater choice for those roles.

Safe travels, Pantglas2! I once taught a Bulgarian boy who arrived in Y6 with no English but acquitted himself well in the KS2 SATS. He was a delightful boy with beautiful manners. His mother was here on a one year contract at the university in Stafford but was so impressed with her son's education, compared with what he had experienced in Bulgaria, that they stayed!

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny but chilly Carlisle. The upstairs heating has kicked in and it has its temperatures set quite low too.

Yesterday was another day of rain. It was raining steadily around breakfast time but I still popped out for the paper, just going to the nearest convenience store instead of building in a longer walk through the park to the other.
By late morning, the rain had stopped so I went out and gave my little front lawn its autumn feed...frustrated DIYers and dog walkers were also taking advantage of the dryness and getting on with things. We only had about 3 hours before the rain was back, heavily this time so no more gardening. I got on with my tedious admin that I must continue today. I've been peeved to hear/see reports from southern based family members of blue skies and warm sun. I've been looking over my winter woollies and planning to get my heavier duvet out shortly.

Happy holidays pantglas. I suspect Bulgaria is one of those under-rated tourist destinations, I've never quite got there.

Yesterday I pottered about, did some housework and made bolognaise sauce in the slow cooker. I had some for dinner. I'm struggling with hip pain and had another bad night. I don't want to take cocodamol but I think I'll have to.
Today I'm having the boys for an hour when their mum goes to a baby shower. She promises she'll only be an hour but we'll see! Dinner will be gammon with cauliflower cheese, cabbage and broccoli and a little mash. Rosesandlilac your dinner sounds tasty. I have a bit of ironing to do which may or may not get done this morning. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a dry NE after a day and night of torrential rain.
It was too much for my gutters, I am expecting to find dampness in some rooms.
DS decided to leave a little earlier than normal and changed his route home after consulting a flood map.
He brought his guitar this week and played while I prepared dinner.
GD spent the afternoon doing homework and then played the piano after dinner.
SIL will visit this afternoon and we will have dinner together, he returns to his home in Brussels on Tuesday.

Good morning from N. Bucks. I’m being lazy and haven’t yet opened the curtains.
Fairly quiet today, we will pop to the garden centre for some winter pansies and some compost. I need to split some hostas and put them in pots. Also have bulbs to put in.
Will relax afterwards and do some sketching..

It is lovely having elder son and granddaughter to stay. They are going for a swim this morning and will be back later. After lunch I think we will be candle making. I am making granddaughter’s favourite food - roast chicken, stuffing balls, Yorkshire pudding and lots of vegetables. We have an assortment of ice cream and I made a batch of rich chocolate cakes yesterday.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. The cloud is clearing to leave blue sky and sunshine, 10 degrees so a bit chilly. A sunny day is forecast. We had a few spots of rain yesterday but nothing useful.
I drove to see my godmother in the afternoon, a 25 mile drive along country roads with lots of bends. Being Saturday afternoon there was quite a lot of traffic until I got nearer my destination. My godmother had been ill during the week and wasn’t eating or drinking much. I think she’s lost weight recently but remains quite cheerful.she has finally agreed to have a carer visit in the mornings to help her get dressed etc., at 100 she’s still fiercely independent.
Nothing planned for today, the washing is on and I’ll do a load of towels later. DD2 may call in but DD1 is busy all day.

madeleine how disappointing that you had to abandon your visit to the country show, and that there was nowhere to sit to watch the kites. pantglas have a good holiday. peli a lovely summery photo, thank you! It seems quite autumnal here now, quite a sudden transition from summer!

Morning Mick, morning All from a dry corner of Somerset. Sky looks light, we’re promised a decent if chilly day.

Horrible wind again yesterday along with heavy showers. Neither encouraged venturing forth so an indoor day. I spent a long while exchanging messages with a younger friend, her Mum, a friend of 39 years, is coming to the end of her life. She’s in hospital where she asked to be and is comfortably asleep in her own room. Too far away for an easy visit

In between we managed the autumn clothing rotation, filled another charity shop bag and with decent weather forecast made plans to go across the bridge at some point this next week to see another friend.

There is admin waiting for me this morning, some tidying to do - I’m not sure how the chaos happens with just two people but it does - maybe a little ironing then we’re up and together for the week.

Good morning Mick and all GN's up and about on this dark and as far as I can see still sunday morning in North Yorkshire. No sign of rain so far.

Huh, i think there is no rain left at the moment after yesterday. You win some and you lose some. I obviously made the wrong choice yesterday. After getting my picnic ready and dashing off the rainwas so hard and unrelenting that I actually gave up on going to the show. These days the price is quite high for me and £18 was too much to pay when the rain was so bad I couldnt have even sat by the ring. So changed direction and went off to watch the kites. Near the coast we usually get more wind and different weather. But having arrived and sat hoping that the rain would ease off or hopefully stop altogether, donned full rain gear and took an umbrella, and at least saw a few good kites including a big pink octopus, a sea horse, and a whale and a shark alongside a superman full size kite, it just got so misty and grey and wet that gave up and came home.

So today, am paying for trying to walk about too far, as there were no seats at all or benches near the kites and absolutely nowhere to have a rest apart from leaning against a big tree at one point. I am being paid back today for being silly enough to keep going instead of turning back earlier. Consequently I am sat her waiting for some painkillers to hopefully kick in before I can even think of having a shower or doing anything at all. That makes my choice for today quite easy. I shall stay in and hope to catch up on housework, return the car things to their proper place, and hope that this will prove a better start to a better week.

Anything I can manage to do will be a bonus , and I shall look at the radio times and see what there is to enjoy , whether a play or a concert, hopefully with a piece that I love. So after basic sorting, I have already got my casserole made, so a jacket potato and some cauliflower will add to that and so no need to stand cooking thank goodness, so there is a choice between ironing and carrying on with the wretched paperwork from the dresser. So if it pours with rain again I shall not be tempted to abandon the jobs. There will still be some places open today from that heritage free week, last da, but so far too creaky to even look and see if there is anything close at hand to look at. Not an exciting day in prospect, but if I can begin the week with something that I can see is sorted, it will be good and of course ta da! the great unveiling of the new glasses on tuesday (fingers crossed!) So surely this week must be a better one than the past one!

Pantglas , hope all goes well and you get off ok on your holiday. I was in Roumania and Bulgaria in the late 1960's , my goodness a long time ago now. I remember having my notebook with the map so that I could translate the cyrillic into english to check which way we were going. At that time the roumanians were reasonably friendly and I was able to chat to them and get directions etc etc., even though Caeschou (cant remember the spelling) was in charge there. However when we went into Bulgaria it was very different. ~Even asking the way or if there was a bread shop, often you got no reply or people would turn away. They were frightened to be seen speaking to a foreigner and you were scrutinised whether ever you went. I remember some lovely countryside but that it was the country I was able to make the least contact with local people. Changed a great deal now of course. Hope you get some decent weather. Karmalady, glad that you are a little better, and hope it continues to improve quickly. Very sensible to be kind to yourself and take it easy for a bit. If you are getting the same weather as here it will be good to feel you are nice and warm inside and keeping out of the rain. This weather should surely help to put some back in the resevoirs. More importantly up here I am hoping that it is really soaking all the moor where the fire was. Although it is mostly out on the surface they know that it is still burning deep in the peat so a really good dousing that will let water get well underground is actually the best we could wish for there. The springer spaniels will be a lively addition to the family. I like them as a breed but they can be very scatty I think and if you have more than one they set each other off on mad rushing about etc. But definitely cheery breed that bring a smile to your face watching their antics. RoseandLilac, sounds like you had the best of the weather. Think we are all reluctantly accepting the change in the season, and it is out with some warmer clothes and getting ready to do a bit of autumn walking and I love scuffing through the dry leaves, but will definitely have to wait for those for a few days!

Well I think the painkillers have kicked in enough for me to hobble off and get a much needed cup of coffee and creak into the shower and hope the hot water will work miracles and let me polish my halo for jobs accomplished in the flat.

Good morning, it dry and chilly here in south Glos.
We didn’t have much rain yesterday, a few showers in the afternoon.
I gave tiddler a bath, she’s looking less grubby and we spent most of the afternoon snuggled together in my recliner because I simply couldn’t be bothered to do anything except some knitting while listening to an audiobook.
Today more of the same.
I’m thinking about putting the heating on today, looking forward to a warm bathroom and towels drying!
Pork in cider and apple for dinner with mashed potato and runner beans from the garden. I made an apple crumble yesterday so we’ll have it with custard for a change I think.
Little else besides dog walking today 😊

Good morning from s somerset, bright later after a dull start and definitely cooler

I sat quietly all day yesterday, was very contented while watching microbes and men and gansey grew a little longer. Teeth pain is not quite as lively now but will still be happening from time to time and I cope by chewing cloves and using a hot pack until it subsides. It is not a week since the procedure and I was warned about the pain and length of time to heal.

I intend to go to the allotment today, driving there as I want to bring all my small ripe squashes back before the weather cools too much overnight. They can cure here. The crown prince squashes will have to budge up to make room in my mini glasshouse, I have old folding shelves I can put on the floor inside as I don`t want to have all the heavy squashes on the hanging shelves I already have in there

Again I won`t be doing much inside the house, it is clean enough and cosy, so my hobbies will do me fine today and the AC chat to me all day long. One dd is fetching two 10 week old springers home today and their training will begin with puppy classes. An active intelligent breed they will eventually be fully trained gundogs. I am so glad that dsil has decided he is ready again, after his beloved last gundog became ill had to be put to sleep last year. He and his dog are one unit when working and there is a lot of emotional attachment

I need a big mug of tea now, I probably will use a straw, not wanting to set my tooth nerves off again

Gosh - I thought the Ark was going to make an appearance 😱 torrential seems inadequate to describe the deluge that lasted all day and I never want to hear the words ‘Gardens need it’ again!

I’m all exited 🤗 today as we’re giving PG Towers a good bottoming (the Staff pulling faces of course) before packing and trotting off to another first…sunny Bulgaria! 🇧🇬 staying not far from a Unesco site at Nessebar, a bit of culture will be on the cards along with whatever culinary delights 😋

Good morning from a dry Bristol.
I did my church cleaning stint yesterday. Being tall, it makes my back hurt, bending over and/or using a broom…. But I do my bit.
Then coffee and chat. It was busy, but nothing like the 32 last week. Apparently, it started small but is building up quite a bit. It is also a good place to get to know some of the congregation although it is not only church goes who come.
I dozed for most of the rest of the day as I was very tired. I did, however, spend time on the baby quilt I’m making for my neighbour’s GGC, due next month. I’ve reached the boring bit of assembling blocks and hand sewing. The bit I like best is the planning.
Church this morning then more sewing - and dozing. The weekend is the time I allow myself to nap whenever and however long I like!
I have to prepare myself for an influx of Bramley apples tomorrow from a friend. I’ll cook some for myself, and make mincemeat. I’d make some for church but am not sure if people would buy it. It’s expensive to make being mostly dried vine fruit, and horrendously expensive butter…
