Whats your favourite movie from 1965?

Saw Lawrence of Arabia just before my Husband went out there with the military. My favourite film by a long way.

The Ipcress File and The Knack .
I loved Dr Zhivago and enjoyed Lawrence of Arabia and found both films upsetting .

We know what you mean and we have always quite happily borrowed words from other countries. Long may that continue, a good way to unite an increasingly divided world.

I remember Omar Sharif with Peter O Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. Superb acting from both.

Lawrence of Arabia. I had a thing about Omar Sharif.

I was pretty ypoung at the time so would say my favorite movie was 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines', however, I would also add 'Cat Ballou'.

My Grandmother went to see the Sound of Music 10 times at my old local Odeon cinema in Burnley (now a Sainsbury's).

If I could add ones from the late 60's and early 70's I would also include The Good, the Bad & The Ugly, plus A Clockwork Orange (the first time I ever saw a nude woman on screen)

The Sound of Music . Saw it 6 times when it was first released, and even now it's a must to watch on TV every time it's on.

A Shot in the Dark with Peter Sellers. Still makes me cry laughing.

My personal favourite movie that was made in 1965 is The Spy Who Came in from the Cold! Very historical and thrilling - I rewatched it a couple of months ago actually. I was eating a Snickers aswell of course.

Superb film. I didn't see it until around 1970 when I was 13 and I was blown away.

Doctor Zhivago had to be my favourite but that year produced quite a few good films. Omar Shariffs liquid brown eyes with those gorgeous lashes did it for me.

1965 is very specific. I remember Help which I think was 1965, I was mad about the Beatles then I was 11. I thought Dr Zhivago which I absolutely loved, was a bit later, but wouldn't swear to it.

DD was born in summer 1965 and some weeks before DH and I had gone to Schofields in Leeds to choose and order a cot and then on to the cinema to see Dr Zhivago. Unfortunately the battle scenes were too much for my delicate constitution and we didn’t see the entire film until some thirty years later. I still fancied Omar Shariff!

I didn’t see that until the 80s! I was a teen when it first came out, and was completely put off by all the old ladies saying they’d been to see it 17 times - it was so looovely!!,
I thought it must be dreadful, sugary-sweet, cringe-making stuff,

By the early 80s we were living. In the Abu Dhabi desert with 3 year old dd1, when someone gave me a pirate copy, saying dd might like it,
So I sat and watched it with her, and when dh came home I somewhat sheepishly said, ‘Actually, it’s rather good…’

Dd soon became addicted to it (there was sod all else for her to watch except the odd cartoon of Sinbad in Arabic) and now mid 40s is still a fan!
