It’s very specific how on earth can you all remember a particular year you saw a film unless it was a memorable year like the first date or just married or something
I can remember some good films but not which exact year I saw them in

I remember because I wasn't actually old enough to see both films, but still managed to get in to see ''The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'', same with ''A Clockwork Orange''. Both seen at the cinema on release.

Dr Zhivago. I saw it in Nairobi and it was quite a shock, after all the snow on screen, to emerge into the heat of an African night,

Definitely Dr Zhivago! That moment when you see that Pasha is Strelnikov! The whole cinema audience gasped. And the moment he spots Lara from the bus... even watching it now, you're just desperately hoping she'll see him!

Silky me! The whole point if my reply was to say that, on that rainy honeymoon, we dashed into the cinema for some telief from the cold and rain. We saw ‘The Sound of Music’ and loved it. Every time it comes on tv, I watch it and remember how happy we were the first time we saw it back in 1966. (I believe it was made in 1965).

It was daft to get married in February! Not only was it freezing cold, but it also poured with rain. We had no money for a foreign holiday so decided to have a week in Brighton. What a disaster! The B and B was freezing, it kept on raining, and I was feeling really sick. (Not surprising really as our first daughter was born nine months later!) We came home after three days. What a relief! So, we had no happy honeymoon memories and with two children born very quickly, had no money for holidays either! Luckily, we were very happy and all that didn’t seem to matter. We were married for 57 years until his death. Our daughters both have happy marriages, and have two children each. Our granddaughter and her husband had a gorgeous son a few months ago and we all live fairly near to each other, within half an hour’s drive, so all is good.
My only regret is that my lovely husband didn’t live to see the new baby. My granddaughter tells me she already tells the baby about how much his great-granddad would have loved him, even though he is only 5 months old! I think that’s lovely.

Those Magnificent men in their Flying Machines!
I was 11, and saw this in our local cinema that was affectionately known as “The Bump”. (The Alexandra, was its real name)

Think it was 1970 but who remembers going to see Love Story with Ryan O'Neil and Ali McGraw then coming out of the cinema with mascara running down faces.

Skydancer Thu 25-Sept-25 14:28:31

Not sure of the year but The Great Escape starring the late Steve McQueen.

Grammaretto Thu 25-Sept-25 13:56:13

DS3 was aged about 8, it was a warm Summer's day. He was indoors watching TV and we were outside. I called to him through the open window to come out
"But I'm watching the best film ever"
It was the Sound of Music

That was about 1984. We still tease him occasionally 😋

Not sure when my favourite 60’s films were produced but here goes!
A Man for All Seasons
Saturday night and Sunday morning
Lawrence of Arabia
Tom Jones (with Albert Finney)
A Hard Days Night

Dr Zhivago, never cried so much, tried to watch it again, same, but it left a lasting impression.
Otter one Sound if Music, liked it at the time. West End Story another one but which I do watch again occasionally.

A friend and I went to see ‘My Fair Lady’ in Leicester Square when we were both working in London in 1965. It has remained one of my favourite films. It is sumptuous. I love the costumes, the music and the lyrics.

Hiraeth Thu 25-Sept-25 06:27:34

For me Splendor in the grass . Starring Warren Beaty and Natalie Wood

In 1965 I was living in Nairobi and the film 'Born Free' was made there. I saw it at the cinema where it had its premiere. I might be wrong about the year, it's difficult to remember details so long ago.
(There were lots of famous people walking around the streets of Nairobi and the local people just accepted it.)

BlueBelle* as always there is a website where you can find this information. Just Google films 1965 , and a list will come up.

I didn't see Dr Zhivago until 1967 but it was a night I remember well. The film was still on its premier run at the Empire Leicester Square.
My boyfriend had dumped me and my bestfriend took me to watch that fabulous film.

The Greatest Story Ever Told. I immediately started taking Confirmation classes and was confirmed early 1966. Sadly I don’t attend church any more.

It has to be Monster a Go-Go

iLoveSnickers1968

My personal favourite movie that was made in 1965 is The Spy Who Came in from the Cold! Very historical and thrilling - I rewatched it a couple of months ago actually. I was eating a Snickers aswell of course.

Richard Burton, what's not to like! I saw it again quite recently, I think I have a DVD from when the Sunday papers gave them away free, the ending still makes me cry.
I recall seeing Lawrence of Arabia but thought it was a bit later, we came out slowly moving up and down like being on a camel and had the most raging thirst.

essjay Wed 24-Sept-25 18:20:00

the Sound of Music definitely. It was a family outing to the Odeon, but then i got mumps so couldn't go and had to wait to go with a friend and her mum. Still watch it whenever its on

eazybee Wed 24-Sept-25 17:44:24

Darling with Julie Christie, Dirk Bogarde and Laurence Harvey.
