The Guardian losing money? Who would have thought?

Apparently one can support this newspaper by buying a £281 jumper with a ‘Guardian’ slogan on it.

Any takers? 😁

Aren't people getting bored with the obsession with trans people? I know I am.

Yet you’ve commented on it.
I’m only bored that some people are still lying that you can change sex, and using that lie to harm others.

Headline from May this year, 'The Guardian slashes losses amid record sales following the Observer deal.'
Always worth doing a wee fact check, isn't it?

Mightily bored with it. I am looking forward to the Panto season though. Oh yes I am!

What colour are they please?
I rather fancy bottle green or cerise this season.

They are definitely this Autumns colours. The greens around a a joy.

The ‘For Facts’ Sake’ version made me smile as The Guardian still employs Owen Jones and others who think a man in a frock is a woman.

Here are some.

I do think that facts are sacred, actually, especially in view of Mr Trump's active repression of facts he doesn't like.
I am astonished by the phrase deeply unpleasant phrase " deluded nonsense". I had an exchange of views on GN over a lie printed by The Telegraph, and was courteous enough to refer to these as " sloppy journalism".
I am not deluded, nor delusional if I choose to read The Guardian.

👍👏👏👏👏

Our eldest daughter subscribes to The Guardian. We’ve had some pretty feisty opinion swaps at times over the years! We are still close though. Blood is thicker than newspaper print. 😁

Does your eldest DD know about this thread you started FGT2? If she finds out be afraid, very afraid.grin

😂 indeed Magenta!

I’d really like everything people say about the DT publishing inaccuracies to be true, when I read this
Rachel Reeves has been told to mount a £6bn tax raid on pensioners, landlords and the self-employed by the most influential think tank within Labour

Read Tim Wallace's whole report below 👇

www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/09/23/labour-favourite-think-tank-demands-tax-raid-on-pensioners/

Please let it be an inaccuracy.

It isn’t welcome news for many people, whatever any government ever does in a budget. I find though that it always helps to read the same information from different sources. It’s the spin that distorts. At this stage it’s all speculation though, obviously.

www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-15123195/Labours-favourite-think-tank-calls-income-tax-hike-30bn-raid-firms-say-pain.html

I assume you know that "thisismoney.co.uk" is owned by DMG Media, which is a subsidiary of the Daily Mail.

Yes, the point I was making is that every media outlet chooses what to emphasise, and what to speculate might happen.

Until it goes bust.

Always one to look on the bright side.

I very much doubt the Guardian will go bust, with a very successful transition to online news under its belt already.
AI says - By Unique Monthly Users
According to data from Press Gazette in October 2024, the top news websites by unique monthly users were:
BBC (38.2 million)
The Guardian (19.8 million)

Sky News (18.5 million)

I was in the Dentist waiting room yesterday, without my phone, and picked up Woman and Home from May 2025.
It could have been 1975 easily.
I had a brief moment when I imagined a magazine aimed at women our age (60 - 90) as their idea of an older woman is aged about 50 and has appalling taste in clothes.

I still read the Grauniad but online with a donation. I buy a weekend paper when I have time to read it.

I won't be buying that sweatshirt. It looks awful.

Luckygirl3 Wed 24-Sept-25 09:15:52

One of the reasons that they risk financial loss is that they still allow use of their online news without charge, whereas others are behind a paywall. I admire them for this.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 24-Sept-25 08:41:56

.. but not in kind, Oreo. I could , too, resort to the jibes of the playground by referring to the reading ages required by the Guardian.

Clawdy Wed 24-Sept-25 08:34:31

Have read the Guardian for years, and probably always will.

Oreo Wed 24-Sept-25 08:25:42

😁but you have responded.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 24-Sept-25 08:20:53

Thank you, FGT, we have always had mutually respectful disagreements!
Well, the Guardian has just been awarded a significant sum of money in a court case brought by an actor.
The newspaper printed reports of this man using his position against women
He sued, and lost.
So, perhaps, sometimes the Guardian does defend women.
I won't dignify the " it's wet , or "sanctimonious" with a response.

Oreo Wed 24-Sept-25 08:13:54

Sanctimonious is a good word , my own take on The Guardian is that it’s wetter than a duck’s arse🦆 ( and no, not because someone else told me.)

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Sept-25 22:44:49

If you didnt read it regularly you wouldn't be in the position to call it Sanctimonious

Or are you assuming it is so "because someone else told me"?

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Sept-25 22:42:51

JenniferEccles

Sanctimonious is always the word which comes to mind with the Guardian.
Very Left wing of course but that’s fine for those of a similar mindset.

The newspaper has a small readership- in fact I’ve often said I think its entire readership is on GN!

They have a huge online readership, JenniferEccles.
