DH & I always have sweets in the car pocket, my favourites are Werther's Original and he likes boiled fruit sweets. What are your favourites?

Sainsbury's rhubarb and custard are absolutely delicious!

Teazel2 Sat 27-Sept-25 08:01:45

Licquorice but only small quantities, very good for constipation!

I don't really have a very sweet tooth, but I do love dark chocolate and anything marzipan, but when it comes to actual 'sweets'. my late MiL used to love a chocolate eclair, especially the Werthers' ones, but you don't see them as often as the normal Werthers. They were nice.

Guylian seahorse and seashell chocs. Lidl seems to have got some sort of licence to market them as a loss leader so their much cheaper but just as good .....for my palate. Sadly those sold under the brand name have shrunk, sadly....and cost much more.

I love these too, and at Christmas I find that Lidl do lots of really nice Christmassy sweet things, German style iced gingerbreads, and chocolate covered marzipan bars. Not just the usual choccies.

Have been diabetic for 12 years so eat no sweets now just plain chocolate sometimes. My favourites before were jelly beans and chocolate eclairs or lemon bonbons. Sherbet lemons made my tongue really sore

Aniseed balls and Mr. Tom (nut brittle bar).

For the car, my favourite of all times were Halters coffee sweets, now discontinued. Has anyone found any other good coffee sweets?

'they're not 'their' ..... Couldn't get preview to work!

I've just thought of Smarties, I could sit and eat a whole tube in one go, they are very moorish.

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Sept-25 21:23:16

Just remembered another from my younger years, Munchies, very moreish.

DH always liked sweets on long car journeys. Werthers for him and fruit gums for me….I’m a cheap date! 😂😂

Forget my pervious post. I must give a shout out to Turkish Delight. Not the rose and lemon, but the hazelnut or pistachio and walnut. The authentic Turkish flavours.

Licquorice AllSorts for me too please!

We have Werther’s toffees for when there is a thunderstorm. My gparents used to give me three creamline toffees when there was a storm and say that the storm would be gone by the time I’d finished the toffees. They were right - and now I do the same with the Werthers with my Gchn.

I like Haribo sweets but don't often buy them. My husband likes Liquorice Allsorts and Humbugs

Coolgran65 Fri 26-Sept-25 20:30:29

I always get a dry mouth and so carry Werthers Original (not the chewy one) or Fox's Glacier Fruits in my pockets.
Still love Licquorice All Sorts, the real ones by Bassetts. None of the copies come close.
Jelly Babies are fondly remembered but I could eat a whole bag at one sitting.
Chocolate I can take or leave.
My mouth is currently watering at the mention of the lemon sherberts.

Redrobin51 Fri 26-Sept-25 20:09:06

I'm chobbling on liquorice at the moment but love sherbert lemons. In fact most types of boiled sweets, would rather have them than chocolate.

crazyH Fri 26-Sept-25 20:00:56

Werther’s original and Cadbury’s Caramel chocolate

LauraNorderr Fri 26-Sept-25 19:58:10

Peanut M&Ms for me. Wine gums for Orlin.

LadyGracie Fri 26-Sept-25 19:52:04

Fruit jellies or maltesers

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Sept-25 18:38:31

I’m not really bothered by sweet things now, but as a youngster I really liked Caramac, very sickly.

aggie Fri 26-Sept-25 18:08:26

I’m sucking one of thr fat black liquorice all sorts that lurk in the bottle f the bag

silverlining48 Fri 26-Sept-25 17:52:02

I have always loved flying saucers, but my favourite sweets are mini bags of Tang fastics.
70% dark chocolate too, but have to be careful.

Another vote for sherbet lemons-much loved by my insulin dependent neighbour !
She always had a quarter of them even though they were forbidden. As a child she'd give me one of her precious sherbets .
Just thinking of them makes my mouth water.
Here's something which whetted my appetite for the origin of words -
Sherbet is from Arabic and is found in Turkish and Persian languages .
It means a drink - probably a fruit based one .

You are spot on.
Sherbet, in Iran they pronounce it ‘sherbat’, is a drink made from the syrup produced when making jam, though it can be bought ready made, and is mixed with ice cold water and ice cubes to give to visitors when they first arrive. On a red hot day is much appreciated.
