I appreciate that humour is personal, but I genuinely don’t understand why Philomena Cunk doesn’t have a higher profile.

Just watching Cunk on Life. The academics who agree to be interviewed are hardy souls. The mix between them trying not to laugh, looking completely bemused and probably feeling significant regret at agreeing to the interview is sublime. How she delivers everything so deadpan is truly impressive.

DH and I are laughing out loud every few seconds. Absolutely priceless. I realise it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, wonder what others think…

It isn’t just funny though (which I think it is but then comedy is subjective). It cleverly highlights how downright stupid the human race is capable of being. Imo

It's lazy and boring comedy based on the theme 'I'm pretending to be a stupid person to embarrass you.' It's just the same every time. It's one joke.

My favourite of recent times has been The Change on Ch4.

Another series that didn’t get the recognition it deserved is The Other one
Side splittingly funny. Together with wonderful actors and good scripts.

I think Philomena Cunk was OK for the first series or so but it now needs to go.

The concept of interviewing people and trending to be thick, ignorant and stupid can only go so far.

Then it becomes predictable and boring. Diana Morgan ran out of original and funny material a while back.

Some of her new stuff is almost like potty mother toilet humour. Really scraping the barrel. She seems to be really struggling

She was good in Motherland though. l must. Say.

But yet you keep on watching 🤔

I discovered “Mandy” and went from smiles to full on laughter. She grows on you and thanks now discovered her other series. Totally agree, why is she not better known?

Her WDYTYA send up (Who are you do you think? in Mandy with Deborah Meaden was hilarious!

I’ve just found it on BBC iplayer. Series two episode two.

I'm from the other side of the proverbial Pond. Just watched a Philomena Cunk. Why y'all been holding this one back?! She is hilarious.

Her humour is very clever, I’ve enjoyed all the Cunk episodes

….Film Club wasn’t very good. Falls into the category of trying too hard to be quirky.

I like Aimee Lou Wood and she has a new series on BBC3 tonight called Film Club. I loved the series she did called Daddy Issues which is on iplayer. Film Club got an ok review on Must Watch but I’m still going to give it a go. The You’re Dead to Me podcast often has me laughing out loud. I guess humour is very subjective and often pops up unexpectedly. The beginning of a Backlisted podcast had me in tears recently even though it wasn’t about a funny book because one of the presenters was so disparaging of herself in a hilarious way.

I’m always looking for really funny offerings on Radio 4 and iPlayer. Humour is very individual but I rarely find anything laugh-out-loud. I think all Diane Morgan series have been hilarious.
Radio 4 has nothing funny any more.

She’s very funny and as OP said has a very low profile for someone who is so talented.

I don’t watch usually, but when I saw it was about Diane Morgan, I made a point of it.

Her life story on Who Do You think You Are was really interesting.

I got out of the habit of watching WDYTYA but started watching it again on catchup last night. Fell asleep part way through Diane’s ( it was very late) but what I saw was so funny ( not what I’d associate with WDYTYA). Will watch the rest of it today along with others in the series that I’ve missed.

She plays being daft, but is very clever.

Moonwatcher1904 Mon 06-Oct-25 22:40:28

I've watched all her programmes. She is very funny. Her interview with Dr Brian Cox was hilarious. I don't know how he kept a straight face.

I love her in pretty much everything she is in. I thought she was very moving in after life.

Anniebach Mon 06-Oct-25 22:29:43

I enjoy both

Kate1949 Mon 06-Oct-25 22:26:04

Mandy is very funny.
