Wearing a wedding ring when widowed

Like when I was married ,I wear it sometimes.
I realise that I have been wearing it for a few months now as it fits comfortably.
My fingers have always been subject to swelling and I did have it altered in the early years of marriage but when it gets uncomfortable I take it off and it can be off for many months as I forget about it.
I have been widowed 6 years now and have no hard or fast rules about it.
My H never wore or wanted a ring as was common in the 50’s when we married.

I was widowed at 54 over 18 years ago and still wear a wedding ring. Until I put weight I wore my ring but now I wear my grandmothers ring . I’m happy to wear it and I’ll never be looking for another man !

For those of you who still wear your wedding ring, did your husband wear one too?
Not wearing one seems a class/generation/British thing🤔

I almost lost mine as it became too loose so decided not to take a chance and I keep it safe in my jewellery box.

I was widowed four years ago after almost fifty years of marriage and still wear my wedding ring. I don’t want to take it off.

Widow of 18 months (after 40 years) and I still wear mine, it feels odd without it (at the moment) but perhaps I might change my mind one day. It’s a very personal decision for each of us.

I only stopped wearing my ring when it became too tight. I still have it, but I can’t wear it. My husband died many years ago, but like Crossstitchfan I still felt married.

I'm not a widow. Married at 16, over 60 years ago.

I would wear my ring if widowed.

I have just realised I am a bit forgetful. I thought I would post that I wouldn’t take my ring off if I was widowed, but realised I have already stopped wearing it. It became dangerously thin and sharp after nearly 58 years of marriage. I was scared it would snap and cut me.

I rarely wore it even when married!

Still wear my ring - I like jewellery and I’d need to get it altered to fit another finger.

Yes!

I have been happily married since the age of 20, husband or no husband (God forbid) my left hand would feel really odd without my rings.

I didn’t wear a wedding ring when my husband was alive so no change for me!

Crossstitchfan Thu 09-Oct-25 14:44:41

I definitely do! I will, in my mind, always be married to my husband. He was the light of my life and I didn’t stop being married to him just because he is no longer here. Incidentally, I am not criticising widows who do take their rings off. It is totally each individual’s choice. Nor do I think badly of widows who go on to marry again, even though it is something I could never do. I suppose the fact that we were together for 57 years has something to do with that.
My feeling is that you can’t improve on perfection! Like anyone else, we had our ups and downs, but that’s life and it would have been rather odd if we didn’t, in my view.

I’m widowed and don’t wear my wedding ring now nine years later. My late DH never wore one, so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
I’m not trying to look available though!

On recent post on "Ladies who lunch" one of the paragraphs was "9 years a widow, Marge still wears a ring".

I felt a bit shocked when my widowed friend told me she had taken her wedding ring off as her marriage had ended due to her husbands death. My mother and mother-in-law still wore their wedding rings in their widowhood. Nearly everyone I know still wears their wedding ring if widowed but of course each to their own as they say.

If a widow do you still wear your wedding ring?
